Chapter 338: 142. The grass beside the house

"Speaking of which, I want to show you something."

Alicxia said as she took out a thick book from her bag and handed it to Li Aozi,

"President Xi Silong said it was found in the Duke’s office when they were cataloging the estate at Sulut Palace. It might be useful to you."

"What is this?"

Li Aozi curiously took the book. The cover had faded with time, losing its colors and patterns, but the gilded title was still vaguely recognizable, written in Yamiriko language,

Genetic Editing Engineering

"It looks like the Duke put in a lot of effort to save his own life." Li Aozi quipped, "It’s just a pity that this planet isn’t ready for Gamma Rank yet."

"Xi Silong said that, according to the diary, the Duke of Grante was originally independent, a war hero of his country who brought a beautiful era to his people. But as the pain of dying became unbearable, he turned to Frost Plated." Alicxia sighed, "We never thought such things would happen. The hero who fought against oppressors became one himself. Where did his faith go?"

"It’s nothing. In this era, he’s just a comprador selling out his country."

Li Aozi was about to put the book away, thinking it wasn’t very meaningful. Yamiriko technology was far from being able to research the extraordinary system.

But then, the system popped up a message.

[Hint: You have come into contact with ’High-Level’ knowledge—Genetic Editing Engineering]

[Eligible professions: [Biochemist], [Mutant], [Architect], [Magician]]

[To learn this knowledge, you need to consume 12,000 experience points]

[Do you accept?]

-----------Seriously?

Alicxia’s gift gave Li Aozi a huge shock.

He rubbed his eyes, making sure he didn’t see wrong. It was really high-level knowledge.

In the ten levels of knowledge, anything above professional-level knowledge was forbidden to teach non-transcendents.

The main reasons were twofold,

First, professional-level knowledge and above inherently existed due to one of the three Destroyers, the God of Insight— the ’Eye of Discernment’. Each piece of high-level knowledge was equivalent to a part of the Eye of Discernment’s body. Learning it meant accepting, enhancing, and recognizing the existence of the Eye of Discernment.

In the ancient cosmic era, high-level knowledge and above were strictly regulated. Only the gods blessed by the Starry Abyss could have the qualification to learn it.

But with the defeat of the Eye of Discernment, the three Destroyers had vanished, and no one cared about these things anymore. Civilizations now faced the Social as their number one enemy, not a failed invader. Unless it was a particularly rigid civilization, regulation seldom occurred.

Second, professional-level knowledge and above were too much for the brains of ordinary people. Once they started reading, their brains couldn’t handle such vast and bizarre information, and it was very common to go mad during the reading process.

Even mentally mature and physically fit transcendent individuals, many lower-order ones, would easily get stuck in a loop, gradually turning into terrorists with a dark personality and a twisted view of the world, imagining they could change the world with their knowledge.

Moreover, from high-level knowledge onwards, all such knowledge was considered strategic resources. Ultimate knowledge specifically—according to Li Aozi’s understanding—was a prerequisite for ascension to godhood.

Li Aozi’s goal was to ascend to the godhood of the Pathway of the Meteor Fall Master, preferably becoming the System Main God of the Sovereign.

At least he knew these two seats were vacant.

[The Yamiriko Federation has professional-level knowledge... Extraterrestrial contact, Lord Entropy, Forged Society, Secret Society... Isn’t it too much of a coincidence to gather so many things together?]

Li Aozi frowned slightly. As he calmed down from the initial surprise, he noticed the oddity of the situation.

Flipping through a few pages, Li Aozi found that the wording and writing habits didn’t seem like the grammatical rules of the Yamiriko Federation.

From a brief perusal, Li Aozi was certain this book wasn’t native to Azure Star.

Another civilization had intentionally introduced high-level knowledge into Yamiriko.

But what was the purpose of doing this?

Li Aozi glanced at the publication date: it was just before the Ersha crisis, but the Yamiriko Federation itself had accepted knowledge aid from the Fenesis Federation.

With Li Aozi’s knowledge of the Fenesis Federation, they had a well-regulated knowledge-control system across its 210-star civilization, designed to prevent haphazard learning leading to civilization collapse—a common occurrence, although other civilizations didn’t value their own people’s lives as much as Fenesis did.

So this book couldn’t possibly be aid from the Fenesis Federation.

[Ersha is Lord Entropy’s mind. Just after Yamiriko got high-level knowledge, Lord Entropy’s mind storm erupted, sealing the globe with Ersha—Isn’t this too much of a coincidence?]

Li Aozi squinted.

Many people, even professional brothers, might not understand the strategic significance of high-level knowledge, as the learning threshold for players was too low to feel how challenging the knowledge was.

But as a level 300 Meteor Fall Master Ace Bro, Li Aozi happened to know something interesting.

The Meteor Fall Master had a school called the Black Hole School, where every skill required at least high-level knowledge to unlock a series of abilities.

One of the Black Hole School’s signature skills, Doomsday Singularity, could generate a number of micro black holes each with the mass of 400 suns, projecting them like missiles with auto-targeting.

With just this move, Li Aozi had taken down a juvenile Lord Entropy in his previous life—although it was more like banishment since the thing couldn’t be killed.

Thus, high-level knowledge genuinely posed a potential threat to Lord Entropy.

He vaguely felt something, and an idea crossed his mind,

[Perhaps Azure Star was deliberately set up.]

This wasn’t merely conjecture. Properly used, high-level knowledge could bring planetary destruction, posing a tangible threat to juvenile Lord Entropy.

[Maybe originally, Lord Entropy wouldn’t have awakened. But with some high-level knowledge mixed in, Lord Entropy felt threatened.]

Li Aozi became wary. The destruction of Azure Star might not be solely due to a single factor.

Alicxia’s unintended action revealed a hidden taskline, which might become more complex in the future.

In the cosmic expanse, could all aliens be kind?

Absolutely not.

Love and hate never occurred without reason. Many civilizations held the principle: not my enemy, but not necessarily my friend; not my friend, but not necessarily my enemy. Even if we were enemies before, it doesn’t mean we can’t be friends now.

The cosmic expanse was too vast, spacetime too lengthy, offering civilizations opportunities to reshuffle. Conflict and development were the main themes of the cosmos.

Who would target a civilization chosen by the Fenesis Federation for support?

One must know that the Fenesis Federation wasn’t an isolated galactic civilization, their backer was the Galaxy Civilization, a bona fide narrative-level civilization—a member of the Thirteenth Narrative [Empire of Heralds]. Who would dare challenge them?

Narrative-level civilizations had only two enemies, other narrative-level civilizations, and the Social.

But that scope was too broad; many civilizations harbored animosity toward the Thirteenth Narrative [Empire of Heralds], and it was a common occurrence for them to harbor hatred one day, seek aid the next, and act as if nothing happened the day after.

In his previous life, because of the destruction of Azure Star, players from Azure Star received no sinister influences in space, but because they became a wandering civilization, they faced widespread discrimination. Most finally sought refuge in other galactic civilizations.

The collapse of a civilization was like a whale fall, where one whale’s death birthed myriad life forms. There were too many vested interest groups to pinpoint.

Li Aozi didn’t want to dwell on these intricacies; it wasn’t something at his level to consider, but it definitely served as a wake-up call.

His early steps into space were both an opportunity and a challenge, with many seemingly just individuals revealing their fangs and watching Azure Star’s movements from the shadows.
