Chapter 320: 127. Combat Mobilization
"These Sky Ring people are really bold."
The footage transmitted back by the drones made Du Zexin click his tongue:
"Advancing along the edge of the storm, if it weren’t for the detection module technology provided by Third Rule, even a Gamma Rank [Mechanic] might not have noticed."
"But to actually dare to collaborate with natural disasters, have they gone mad?"
To Li Aozi, Du Zexin’s grumbling seemed a bit over the top.
"What’s the big deal?"
Li Aozi said indifferently:
"Back in the day at the Houjo Group Building in Qiong’anjing, they were planning to bomb their own city."
"That’s also true."
As preposterous as Du Zexin found it to be, it was the truth, undeniable.
The logic of the People of Sky Ring was completely different from that of the Frost Plated People.
If a Frost Plated soldier dared to bomb the capital, they would certainly be condemned and protested by the citizens, but so far, the People of Sky Ring had made no such move.
Li Aozi wasn’t concerned about this issue; he turned his head and asked, "Compared to this, the Sky Ring people will eventually come to kill us, and Youhe Lai could come knocking at any time. How much longer do you need for the machinery modifications you mentioned?"
Du Zexin raised the welder of the engineering robot. His voice came through the broadcast:
"At least six hours... Future Sentinel is too severely damaged, and your Biological Pool is too large. If we don’t make some modifications, those Descenders addicted to infiltration-style games will definitely become space junk, drifting until they evaporate in a black hole."
"Six hours is too long; going by the Sky Ring people’s current progress, they should arrive in less than four hours no matter what."
Without hesitation, Li Aozi dialed a familiar number:
"Narrow Space Mirror, when will you arrive?"
"We’re dealing with a surgery; there are too many prisoners, many of them in a diseased state."
The terminal of Narrow Space Mirror was carelessly placed on the table, she herself was busy, and the members of Red Squad around her were all extremely busy and injured.
Li Aozi frowned:
"In such a state, can you still fight?"
"Don’t worry, I’ll be there soon. 2 hours."
Narrow Space Mirror wiped away sweat and suddenly another man’s voice came through the call:
"What’s going on, Mirror?"
Narrow Space Mirror turned and explained to the man off-camera:
"Nothing much, go and rest a bit, Gretto Yegg. You’ve already done 24 surgeries; you won’t be able hold up if this continues."
"I heard combat."
The terminal was picked up, and the next moment it was aimed at the face of its holder, a steady black-haired, blue-eyed man looking into the camera at Li Aozi. He wore green surgical attire, his face masked, but it was still clear that he was a very serious yet gentle man.
"The video remarks are... The Destined Li Aozi—Mirror, is this a friend of yours?"
"Piss off!"
Li Aozi’s eyes lit up and he immediately said:
"Nice to meet you, Gretto Yegg."
"You know me?" Gretto Yegg was slightly surprised, "You’re truly beautiful, almost like Mirror."
"Thank you for the compliment, to cut to the chase—I’m Li Aozi, Mr. Mirror’s business partner. It was I who provided the information, covered, and organized your plan to take over the prison."
Li Aozi laughed, "My goal is to go into space, for which I’ve prepared one—now two nuclear bombs."
"Space... that sounds too far away, not something humans dare to dream of."
Gretto Yegg removed his mask, showing a grateful expression:
"Thank you, Mr. Leoz, for saving me and many others oppressed by the Group. I sincerely thank you for the assistance you’ve provided to the cause of Red Squad. This is a great victory for the People of Sky Ring, and if anything is needed, I am obliged to act."
"I need you, Gretto Yegg." Li Aozi earnestly extended an invitation, "I need all of you who are willing to fight for the world and conscience; what you do will stand against the entire old world. But I promise you, the stars will remember your courage."
As he spoke, he repeated all the previous pitches he had made to the players and people like N4, including images and video explanations.
"Lord Entropy... Ersha... Abandon Mist. GTB has monopolized so much critical information. The Four Nations, just to preserve their dominion, allow themselves to be strangled, perpetuating GTB’s monopoly, and even wage wars over insignificant resources."
As a Revolutionary, Narrow Space Mirror’s expression changed instantly upon receiving this information:
"These damn oppressors! They think they own the planet! People could be living well, but for maintaining the status quo and keeping the oppression and conflict with the Outer World, they let GTB’s monopoly go unchecked, even waging wars for trivial resources."
"Every war is a civil war of humankind," said Gretto Yegg solemnly, "If these are true, then all of us should be brothers and sisters, kinsfolk. It is the Four Nations and GTB, in league with cosmic civilization powers, who refuse to disclose this to the people, leading to so many tragedies."
"Frost Plated has the Rose Army in rebellion; the relentless vicious competition among the Red Arrow People; Sky Ring has us, the Red Squad in battle, and Zhengxu has given up fighting—if they had the technology of GTB, the Outer World could have been non-existent, and they could have been our brethren."
The two experienced warriors viewed problems from a much higher perspective and scope than Li Aozi and the others, talking about the suffering of the Outer World people and the dirty politics of the Four Nations affecting the future—this made Li Aozi and Du Zexin feel somewhat uncomfortable.
"Sometimes keeping things hidden can indeed stabilize things a bit."
Du Zexin explained:
"Technology isn’t Pandora’s box; as long as it’s used well, it can benefit mankind. But many times, because of the loss of control of technology, countries and their people have endured even greater suffering."
"In our view, the suffering that Azure Star has endured should not have been ours to bear."
The angle of the Narrow Space Mirror was shrewd, hitting the nail on the head, revealing the root cause:
"The current Four Nations are no good; they just want to maintain their own dominion by shifting the suffering elsewhere. All the benefits are taken by the Four Nations, the technology is monopolized by GTB, but the suffering is passed on to the people of the Outer World—they are the ones who can endure it the most. Whether it’s war, hunger, cold, or pollution emitted by the Four Nations, intentionally causing division and engulfing territories."
"Technology is not the problem; even if the old era was destroyed by Ersha, before that, they could have allowed all the people of the globe to live well. It’s those people’s fault, the Four Nations and GTB, those rulers, it is they who should bear the suffering!"
Gretto stood up and walked toward the door.
"Hold on—Gretto, where are you going?!"
"To fight," Gretto said, "If Leoz could reach out to the interstellar civilizations interested in Azure Star, then there would be hope for Azure Star, we wouldn’t have to endure the slavery and exploitation by the Four Nations, so I am going to fight, to help him withstand the Sky Ring Army."
The Narrow Space Mirror stood up, immediately interjecting:
"No!"
"I must go, Narrow Space Mirror, doing so is the only way to end the pain afflicting our people."
"That is not the way! Why can’t you understand?!"
The Narrow Space Mirror punched him in the chest, angrily grabbed Gretto’s collar, and roared at him:
"Gretto, you shouldn’t be killing... What you should be holding is a scalpel, not a butcher’s knife."
"Mirror. There’s no such thing as should or shouldn’t."
Gretto said calmly:
"Medicine can only treat the physical ailments, but it cannot cure the mental stubborn diseases."
"Do you think I broke the jail for what? What do you think all my efforts have been for? To pull you out of one hell, only to watch you enter another?"
The silver glow appeared in the Narrow Space Mirror’s eyes, and the Ring of Order on her neck trembled uncontrollably as she composed herself, pleading:
"Think of me, Gretto, you are important to me, I can’t be without you, and neither can the Red Squad. Without you, the world would lack one color, we would lack courage, strength, and soul. I don’t want you to leave, stay here. I will go and fight."
"Narrow Space Mirror Chief." Gretto looked into his colorless pupils and suddenly called out.
"Yes!" The Narrow Space Mirror responded instinctively.
"Would you trade a lowly soldier for a leader?"
"I would never do that."
"Gretto Yegg, a lowly soldier of the Sky Blazing Ring’s Red Squad volunteer army, is requesting permission to fight."
Gretto hammered his chest:
"You know what to do."
The Narrow Space Mirror looked down, as one Red Squad warrior after another halted, unsure of what to do.
On one side was the people’s hero they had rescued through great hardship, the soul tutor of the Red Squad, Gretto Yegg.
On the other was their leader, the most powerful warrior, who had gone to the front lines and fought alongside them until now, the Narrow Space Mirror.
Either choice was difficult.
But the soldiers of the Red Squad were different from the soldiers of the Sky Ring, different from the Sky Ring Ghosts; they knew what they were fighting for.
At this moment, they rationally chose silence, leaving the decision to their leader, trusting that the Narrow Space Mirror would make the right choice.
However, the pressure was no less for the Narrow Space Mirror.
All the expectations were weighing on her, she didn’t want Gretto to leave, but the cooperation with Leoz was an agreement from the start. If she went back on her word, the army’s order would soon become a joke.
What’s more, what would the soldiers think if Gretto had special privileges?
Ah, so as long as you have a good relationship with Big Sister, you can avoid fighting.
Isn’t this just like the Ring King and those corporate dogs of the conglomerates?
"You really have given me a hard choice."
The Ring of Order on her neck shook violently, the Narrow Space Mirror’s pupils narrowed, and she felt the calling of that voice again.
The Secret Society calling itself Gaia... It was once again showing her the filthy, dark side of humanity.
It seemed to tell her: whatever she did was wrong because humanity was beyond salvation.
"Everyone believes in you, believes in the ideals."
Gretto said:
"Please issue the order, Narrow Space Mirror. I will fulfill it properly."
"You make it sound so easy, asshole."
"If it’s Mirror’s decision, there definitely won’t be any confusion."
"Take my car."
"Huh?"
"I said, drive my car."
The Narrow Space Mirror let go of his collar, smiled, and said:
"Go to Leoz, our Black Knight."
