Chapter 308: 121. The Last Night
Li Aozi closed the letter, the gloominess in his heart dissipated significantly.
The campfire painted his face orange-red, beautiful sparks danced like butterflies, and not far away, the carefree players were gathering around, each one circling Du Zexin’s mecha, taking screenshots to post on forums.
"Wow, a Gundam! The romance of a man!"
"That design is clearly from Armored Core, you poser!"
"Du Zexin, are you a mentor for the Mechanics?"
Faced with these chattering players, Du Zexin, whose consciousness resided in Future Sentinel, was a bit bewildered.
"Are these little guys yours?" Du Zexin pointed at the players with an average Total Level of 10, "Although their strength is passable, what are they talking about—hey! Don’t spray paint graffiti on my armor! And you—why would you take off your clothes when drinking!"
Li Aozi’s wrinkles gradually faded from his face, slowly regaining his youthful good looks, he rubbed his stiff facial muscles, and waved his hands:
"This bunch has their unique abilities, don’t treat them like ordinary people."
"Special abilities?" Du Zexin picked up a poor devil with his fingers, held it up to the monitor, and shone brightly, scanning for a while, "Everything seems normal, but... you’re right, I can feel it, they’re not the same kind as we Azure Star People."
"That... put me down!"
The Caramel Snail was on the verge of tears; he had just driven all the way from Nuliang City, only to be picked up by a 20-meter-tall iron giant, with his feet dangling in the air, he was so scared that he closed his eyes, shivering.
"You can call them ’Descenders,’ and they have great potential. I plan to take them into space," Li Aozi said with a chuckle.
Into space!
The players got excited upon hearing this word.
For many days, the Fishmen Guild’s players had been diligently grinding monsters, leveling up, rushing to do tasks, and competing with each other at Triangle Town’s arena, working hard indeed.
During this time, thanks to the players’ diligent work, the Lord of Oakland had made a killing, even clearing out several bandit dens in the area, laughing in his dreams.
Regrettably, because the Fishmen Guild had released their information from the start, it attracted most of the professional players and big guilds to gather here. In the final qualifying match for access to the cosmos, out of the entire guild’s 31 members, not a single one qualified.
In the end, 25 players were selected, four of whom were professionals:
Qiongyu’s veteran player ’Yutianxiao’—he appeared ordinary in appearance and dress, like a corporate drone Mechanic, always amiable, seemingly non-threatening.
Li Aozi glanced at his panel: Well, he had reached Total Level 12 with his Main Profession, and also had a Level 3 Hacker, maxing out his Total Level.
And it was the Mechanic occupation that was harder to level up in the early stages.
No wonder they said Yutianxiao was like cheating when playing PvE in a previous life, he did have some tricks up his sleeve.
Old Chilly Oil’s player, ID [LGY] Garidon, had also reached a Level 10 Martial Artist, but surprisingly, this young man had taken up a Lifestyle Profession—Chef.
Chef... Li Aozi could not help twitching at the corner of his mouth.
From his experience, the food made by early-stage chefs was quite despairing.
Delicious, non-toxic, buff effects—at the early stages, chefs could only have two of these attributes simultaneously.
And unfortunately, Li Aozi glanced at Garidon’s Occupational Knowledge, great, he hadn’t even learned Basic Nutrition. The players would have to fend for themselves.
Two other professional players included, the leader of the Fragrant Chicken Women’s Team, [XXG] Cumin Powder, a game character with greenish-pink gradient short hair, looking very cyberpunk as a Ranger, her arms also implanted with expensive recoil-dampening prosthetics.
There’s no denying that professional players do have some skills. Li Aozi glanced at the variety of equipment on her person, guessing it probably cost about the same as his original seed money from robbing a bank.
Cumin Powder, being a female player, should have been a standout among these big guys, but her punk style didn’t appeal to most people, so she remained respectfully admired from a distance.
The last player surprised Li Aozi a bit—[IP] Night Fighting Sword from Endless Pioneers.
Setting everything else aside, his not only serious but also antique-style nickname stood out starkly among a mishmash of players.
He looked like a clear-eyed, bushy-browed, sword-swinging Samurai, his hair tied up, looking dashing and spirited. Yet, placed amidst a group of Modified Humans with muscle-rippling physiques, pig-mask wearing beefcakes, and sharp-dressed wastelanders, he seemed the most abnormal.
To this sorry kid, Li Aozi had a strong impression—not because of his skills... how should one put it, Night Fighting Sword was a very special professional player.
Five years, five times runner-up, the perennial second place, always the last to qualify in duel matches, only to give it away in the second round.
The first year of his debut, he fought to the runner-up position, encountered the Son of the Patch, and accepted defeat.
The next year, he changed clubs and served, but was overshadowed by a rookie from his old team, bitterly settling for second place, enduring the loss.
In his third year, his old club recognized his commanding talent and recruited him back; in the finals, he was astoundingly taken out by the then one-turn wonder Duel King, with nothing but acceptance for superior skills.
