Chapter 226: 048. Take action
"Acting tough, huh? Watch me smash you into an idiot!"
The Cang Cui Wolf Spirit let out a low howl as the five evil spirits covered in an evil shell burst forth instantly. They transformed into shadows that vanished without a trace, launching a swift assault from all directions towards Li Aozi and Alicxia.
"Reconnaissance."
Alicxia raised her hand and brushed in front of her; the evil spirits lurking in the shadows immediately had nowhere to hide. She unleashed both fists fiercely, pounding upon the four-armed snail charging at her.
"Damn it!"
The four-armed Human Snail was shocked and hurriedly raised its arms to block, but its strength was far inferior to Alicxia’s.
Thud—
Alicxia’s fists brutally broke through the Human Snail’s bent arms, and like the sun at its zenith, her punches, as if scooping out the insides, melted the creature like snow in early spring.
With a forceful pull, the once menacing Human Snail immediately screamed, its body emitting black smoke, and then its upper body was cleanly torn in two by Alicxia’s wrist strength, continuously melting and burning on Neijin’s hand armor.
However, the Human Snail did not die; the spiritual creature’s life was extraordinarily tenacious. It almost appeared to be twisting its last snail shell, struggling to crawl back to the feet of Duke Gamos. Duke Gamos lowered his hand, released a weak spirit from his own body for the Human Snail to devour, and slowly began to recover.
Compared to Alicxia’s brutal efficiency, Li Aozi’s technique appeared more extravagant and shocking.
Boom!
Li Aozi lifted his long sword, and the Resentful Ghost Warrior behind him did the same. A powerful killing intent, almost tangible, caused an unsettling sensation of horror to anyone merely approaching him.
The Cang Cui Wolf Spirit and the white-dressed Nether Wife exchanged a glance, seeing the same thought in each other’s eyes:
They too felt that all their moves had been seen through.
’Feint to probe, trick him into making a move.’
’Just what I wanted.’
The two evil spirits communicated their thoughts and struck simultaneously. The Cang Cui Wolf Spirit shot out a compressed ball of spiritual power, while the female ghost flicked open a fan made from human spine, immediately slashing out a crescent-shaped wave of dark ripples.

"Unity of the two — Ghost Fang Slash!"
The shadow of the Resentful Ghost behind him instantly slashed out, spreading a horrid purple flame horizontally forward. The two spiritual creatures retreated, but they soon realized that it was already too late, no matter what they did.
After the Resentful Ghost Warrior swung his sword, Li Aozi also calmly took a step forward and also lifted his crystalline great tachi.
Gravity drive!
The acceleration instantaneously rose to 120G, with an acceleration rate of 1176 per second, lifting a shocking sonic boom where they stood. While the two evil spirits were still retreating midair, the blade of Li Aozi had already swept past them.
Clang—
His figure flashed like lightning, sporting the seemingly heavy molten armor, yet his speed surpassed visual perception and nerve reaction. His blade danced, like a knight without a mount or a butterfly flitting through flowers; in just an instant, both Cang Cui and Nether Wife bore purple slash marks upon their bodies.
"Ugh—damn it, Fetal Ghost, Thunder Spirit, would you two move!"
Cang Cui’s eyeballs whirled around, pretending to be grievously wounded, and called out hastily to the rear:
"Do something, you two dumb pigs!"
"Annoying!"
The Thunder Spirit’s appearance was somewhere between a lion and a deer, unlike these Spiritual Creatures transformed from resentment in life, it held a much more noble air. Being a natural embodiment of Azure Star’s ecosystem’s Will, it disdained standing alongside the adjacent Evil Spirits. Opening its mouth, Spiritual Power stirred, and immediately, a bright purple Thunderball gathered.
"Humph!"
With a low growl from the Thunder Spirit, the dazzling spherical lightning shot towards Li Aozi instantly, forcing him to retreat from his continuous slashes at the two Evil Spirits.
No matter how Li Aozi flipped and shifted in midair, widening the distance, that Thunderball tenaciously tailed him.
"Soul tracking, huh—this guy’s a bit good."
As the Thunderball was about to catch up, Li Aozi simply turned and landed, stomping his foot on the ground in an instant.
Boom!
[Mountain Armor]
[Gravity]
Once again, he invoked the Earth’s powers, and under Gravity’s control, a rough golem of rock formed instantly, smashing directly into the Thunderball.
Crack—
The short-lived extreme heat melted the stone golem, blowing off a corner, but it had no effect; instead, Li Aozi grabbed it with Gravity and hurled it towards Duke Gamos on the throne!
Gulp!
The Fetal Ghost’s form shifted instantly, blocking in front of Duke, its umbilical cords lashed out, smashing the stone golem into fragments, leaving only a few bits of rock debris to fall on Duke Gamos’s face amid the dust-filled air.
Drip drop...
Stones rolled off the Duke’s skin, lodging between the creases and his old age spots, skin pinching around each small, hard fragment—how it truly felt was unknown to others, but judging by Duke Gamos’s subsequent reaction, it evidently wasn’t a very comfortable sensation.
Duke Gamos raised his head, scanning the battle for the first time.
He saw marble floors molten and trampled, like dirt beneath the feet of two seemingly very young Beta-Rank warriors at will.
He saw youthful physiques, stepping into realms of pain similar to his own, and even to kill him, the power of that woman from an older era was growing stronger still.
He saw arcane magic, once nothing more than street performance and without future, now in the hands of the new generation changing a thousandfold, a mix of several superpowers interplaying to create countless possibilities. Like the young, they were full of colors, and like the young, they brimmed with a future.
He saw those who should have been buried with the old world, like himself, now had steady gaze and fought ever more valiantly.
He once had all these things; he should have belonged to such an era.
However, this strength had turned into a curse.
A sudden change overtook Duke Gamos’s heart.
Perhaps it was due to jealousy of the youth, or maybe it was the injustice of fate, or possibly it stemmed from the anger of being humiliated.
He took off the breathing mask from his face and slowly stood up. The Human Snail, still voraciously consuming weaker spiritual creatures, was taught a lesson at one moment and in the next, the spiritual body it was grasping was retracted into Duke Gamos’s own body.
"Gamos, I haven’t healed properly—"
Before it could finish speaking, the Duke lifted his hand and casually tapped between the snail’s tentacles.
Crack!
The Human Snail’s body instantly burst open, disintegrating into torrential spiritual power that reversed back into Gamos’s body. His frame shuddered slightly, and snail’s antennae grew upon his forehead.
"Hey, Gamos—" Before the Fetal Ghost could even begin speaking, the Duke pinched its umbilical cord tightly, withdrawing its form entirely and wrapping it around his arm. The placenta on its head slammed heavily to the ground, dragged along and leaving behind a pitch-black, foul trail like a meteor hammer.
"Gamos! Are you betraying us? We are supposed to be your allies!"
The successive destruction of the Fetal Ghost and the Human Snail provoked the displeasure of the Nether Wife:
"If you’re not aware of the bigger picture—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Alicxia slammed a fist into her, sending the Nether Wife staggering back several steps, directly in front of the Duke.
Thud.
A deep blue fissure slowly spread across the Duke’s chest, and before the Nether Wife could even scream, she was ’swallowed’ by the Duke.
A fan clattered to the ground, and Alicxia cautiously raised her head. Duke Gamos’s figure burst forth in an instant, and the mere shock waves of his movement were enough to knock the immensely strong Alicxia to the ground.
He advanced with large strides, yet silently, dragging an enigmatic step that utterly disregarded the laws of physics, rapidly skimming over the wall, and pouncing directly onto Cang Cui, who was fighting with Li Aozi.
Splat—
Despite being a crafty adversary, Cang Cui took the hit. Its head reared high as the Duke grabbed it and swiftly, cleanly stripped the wolf skin from its body, draping it over his shoulder as a grand, savage cape.
Li Aozi faced Gamos, just half a meter apart. Whether it was the intense flames enveloping Li Aozi or the sea of blood and rotten stench emanating from Gamos, they could smell each other distinctly.
"You’re not afraid of me."
Gamos’s voice was sick and weak, sounding like an old creature on the verge of death. However, every word he uttered echoed like rolling thunder throughout the Flame King Hall, facing him was in itself an exceedingly terrifying ordeal.
Facing Duke Gamos, Li Aozi realized for the first time just how desperate and fearful those crushed by his gravity must have felt.
This was nothing like when he confronted Bayo Kong—the Mingji Professor was ignorant of combat and was not a true powerhouse, merely a pile of rotten flesh held together by Arcane Energy.
But with Duke Gamos, if Bayo Kong was a single droplet, then the Duke was like a flood, bearing the rolling might of destruction and the Power of Catastrophe, instantly sweeping over everything.
Compared to Li Aozi’s feelings, the Duke himself was even more astonished.
"You, you’re not afraid of me, and even your eyes are filled with eager anticipation."
What did that mean? It was almost as if a bare-handed commoner saw a high-speed train barreling towards them and not only felt no fear but was brimming with fighting spirit, eager to knock the train off course and smash it into scrap metal.
Gamos fell silent for a moment. He had thought he had many taunts to throw at the young man.
’Overestimating oneself’, ’completely pointless’, ’you will inevitably regret chasing power’—he understood that look all too well.
Before he became Frost Plated’s representative, while he foolishly tried to oppose Frost Plated’s dominion and eventually fell into the role of a lackey, Gamos remembered having that very same look.
The young man before him, or the bride from the old era, had no quarrels with him.
By reason or emotion, they had no cause to battle him, especially not an enemy so overwhelmingly strong as to induce despair.
Whether it be the Duke, Frost Plated, or any dominant Empire.
Yet now, he felt that all these supposed taunts were actually proof of his own failure.
These two youths, they weren’t fighting for selfish gains or personal benefit—they were fighting for their beliefs.
In terms of power, he overwhelmingly outmatched them, but from the beginning, Gamos knew he had already lost too much.
"...Never mind."
Duke Gamos said nothing.
If one ignored what he had done and his place in history, he didn’t seem very much like a villain at all.
Instead, he resembled a spiritless, defeated old man.
"Thunder Spirit."
With a wave of his hand, the natural beast spirit promptly approached and melded into his body willingly, releasing a resplendent purple lightning that burst forth instantaneously, breaching the upper structure of the Flame King Hall.
Crackle!
Red-black clouds of Ersha parted as a thunderbolt fell through, piercing the roof of Sulut Palace and crushing down onto Gamos.
The massive discharge of electric clouds enveloped the entire Sulut Palace in an instant, and upon realizing the danger, Xi Silong and others hastily retreated with the Bemudes soldiers outside.
Boom boom boom boom—
The earth quaked, buildings collapsed, and Sulut Palace, with nearly a thousand years of history, shook incessantly. The vast cloud of electricity, like a malignant tumor, spread and proliferated wickedly, swallowing numerous warriors alive within its storm. Amidst the thunderclaps and lightning, an imposing creature unfolded six pairs of arms and descended upon the world like Asura.
As the fierce Demon God touched down, the surrounding thunderclouds stirred and resonated fearfully, conveying his Will:
"—Set forth."
