Chapter 156: 127. Nimotin’s Fantastic Adventure (Two-in-One)_2
Captain Nimotin narrowed her eyes; she noticed that Yawen’s new uniform was no longer that of a ground-level agent—monochrome with a base, it now featured a gold trim on the collar, and the uniform’s epaulettes had been switched to the design of a frosted, frozen olive branch.
Besides that, an agent from headquarters handed her a special device that looked like a pair of silver-framed glasses without lenses, snugly fitting on the skin and temples, with two silver antennas extending forward.
’Elite Combatant... and she’s even equipped with a Brainwave Amplifier.’
Not good, headquarters had already completely figured out their bottom line and status, and even knew what they lacked and what they were good at,
Swallowing hard, Captain Nimotin, who was almost two meters tall, had to be careful not to hit her head inside the cabin, which was just too easy to do; she had to keep her neck down and cautiously survey her surroundings.
Women.
The entire cabin, from the fully armed agents to the technical expert hackers, including the pilot, was all women.
Though it was somewhat ironic to say, even within the Fourth Rule, it was rare to see so many elite women.
Click-clack—click-clack—
The female agents from headquarters were all business, bustling about, preoccupied with various tasks, making the two of them, put aside and idle, feel agonizingly uneasy, like they were sitting on pins and needles.
This was also the agents’ typical method—leaving someone idle to hang dry, generating anxiety while they were busy with their own affairs, deliberately giving you nothing to do to make you feel guilty.
All these signs immediately made Captain Nimotin pessimistic; she didn’t know what was happening, but nothing good was likely to follow.
The Pelican-style Gyrocopter quickly started up, heading forward. Captain Nimotin could clearly feel this was not the direction towards Frost Plated, but she didn’t dare to ask.
Yawen was much steadier than she was; her face was still smiling. The sight of the young and pretty girl gratefully receiving the lunch that someone had brought her made Captain Nimotin feel painfully conflicted.
By now, her attitude towards Yawen was no longer the disdain and contempt she had initially felt; the young lady didn’t put on airs, was serious about her work, remembered to send out a signal with a tracker even when held hostage by Li Aozi, and had painstakingly helped her along when her leg was broken.
Sigh...
She sighed silently to herself.
But it was useless to say anything; the superiors were being so ’nice’ to them just to assuage their feelings.
"Captain Nimotin, don’t you want some pork chop?"
Miss Yawen smiled insouciantly and even showed off her pork chop rice to her.
With a wry smile, Captain Nimotin shook her head.
"The people from headquarters are so nice to me. Just a ground-level agent, and they issued me such handsome clothes and even gave me equipment."
Yawen looked visibly delighted—who wouldn’t be moved, having just crawled out of the snow, faced with warmth and good food?
Naive, young people are too naive.
Captain Nimotin thought to herself:
’They’re going to come back and interrogate us soon.’
Sure enough, after Captain Nimotin and Yawen had been left idle for a little over ten minutes, the bustling agents around them suddenly stopped their work, stood up straight all at once, turned their heads towards the corridor, and one of the female agent leaders immediately shouted:
"One, two—salute!"
"Greetings His Excellency the Governor!"
Captain Nimotin hastily pulled Yawen to stand up; towering in stature, she glimpsed the newcomer—
She wore a white hat, donned the formal dress of a high-ranking official of Frost Plated, her features sharp. Despite looking like an average middle-aged woman, her gaze was fiercer than that of any man’s, her cheeks gaunt as if they had been axed off, with thin lips like knives and a hooked nose that made her seem like an icy executioner.
Captain Nimotin had thought her own menacing look might well be a side business to scare children into silence at night, but the Governor’s visage easily surpassed hers in lethal force, as if she had emerged from a battlefield of corpses and blood.
Her skin was darkened by the sun, evidently one of the upper class that enjoyed the sun, her disastrous green eyes filled with a frightening chill, making it impossible for anyone to hold her gaze.
Furthermore, the Governor was not tall, just a bit over one and a half meters—but Captain Nimotin believed that if anyone commented on her height, she would just nonchalantly remove the taller parts of their body and then engage them in a fair contest.
Yawen still had a naïve expression, saluting while looking up to the Governor with a face full of ’reverence.’
Lai Lier Nanhu nodded slightly, and the commanding female agents quickly went back to their business, clearing the way for the Governor to approach Captain Nimotin and Yawen.
"Good work, both of you who are dedicated national heroes."
Lai Lier’s chest was adorned with rows of ribbon bars, red, orange, blue, green, gold, black, white—blurring Captain Nimotin’s vision. Among these ribbons, one in particular stood out—it was simple, featuring two women holding up snowflakes, all made of silver.
The Heroine Medal of Frost Plated.
The highest honor in Frost Plated, indicating that the individual had made a significant national contribution, worthy of being recorded in history.
"Not at all, not at all, it’s every Fourth Rule Agent’s duty to share the worries and alleviates the concerns of His Excellency the President and the Governor!"
Not particularly clever or sociable, Captain Nimotin risked offending the Governor with her words—if the leader retorted with ’When I say you’ve worked hard, and you say you haven’t, are you implying that I’m blind?’—then maybe, she could be dismissed the next day for entering the room with her left foot first.
Fortunately, the Governor wasn’t bothered by these details, she dismissively waved a hand and got straight to the point:
"I’ve already heard about what happened with Li Aozi. Putting aside whether or not this was an act of the Red Arrow Empire, this man has caused significant damage to our nation’s defense and security."
