Chapter 72 - Werewolf Clan Leader Meeting_1
Chapter 72: 72 Chapter Werewolf Clan Leader Meeting_1
After the appearance of the Heavy Spearman Phalanx and the Light Armored Werewolf Warrior Phalanx, the Werewolf Clan Leaders, who had been visually bombarded by steel armor and fine weapons, found the Archer Phalanx that followed less stunning than at first.
In contrast, the Human-Powered Tricycle Phalanx following the archers recaptured the interest of the Werewolf Clan Leaders.
This tool is magical! People can ride on it, and by alternately pedaling with their feet, they can go so fast. In the tricycle’s rear cargo area stood four heavily armed spearmen, demonstrating the impressive carrying capacity of these vehicles.
Due to the Eternal Domain’s limited military strength, these Heavy Spearmen were the same ones who had just marched in formation. After circling behind the circular venue, they boarded tricycles pedaled by farmers for another display. The Light Armored Werewolf Warriors also completed their equipment change behind the venue.
Following the Human-Powered Tricycle Phalanx was the Light Armored Werewolf Mobile Force formation. Fully armed Werewolves rode bicycles past the front of the venue, once again arousing the intense interest of the Werewolf Clan Leaders.
Werewolves, being too beastly by nature, are unable to tame horses. Seat wolves can only carry small creatures like the Big-eared Monsters, and swamp goliaths do not allow them to be ridden. Therefore, Werewolves mostly rely on their own two legs for travel. Although endurance is a Werewolf’s innate talent, it still has its limits.
Now, seeing the Werewolf Warriors of the Eternal Domain pedaling those two-wheeled vehicles with such ease, it truly seemed like an excellent tool for Werewolf travel. A cloth bag was fixed to the back seat, in which supplies could be carried. Food and necessities for long journeys could be packed inside.
How convenient!
The mobility and survival capabilities of Werewolf Warriors riding bicycles were indeed greatly enhanced.
Good stuff, good stuff...
But how could such a vehicle, with just two wheels, front and back, not topple over?
Could it be some kind of alchemy Magic!
After the Light Armored Werewolf Mobile Force formation passed, the Werewolf Clan Leaders craned their necks to continue watching the Werewolves on the bicycles.
Then, a roaring sound came from the other side. A massive, steel-clad "magical beast," emitting a growling noise, slowly drove past the front of the venue. Archers stood all over its back. The oppressive feeling from its enormous physique made the fur of all the Werewolf Clan Leaders seeing this magical beast for the first time stand on end.
What... what is this?
Before Donna could explain, Duan’er interjected, "This is a magical beast tamed by Lord Yan Xing, named ’Truck.’ Don’t be fooled by its ferocious appearance; it’s actually very gentle.
"I have ridden in the ’Truck’ with Lord Yan Xing, racing across the plains. I tell you, when the ’Truck’ runs, you can reach my Red Mud Wetland from the Eternal Domain in the time it takes to gnaw on a lamb leg bone.
"Lord Yan Xing also said that he plans to build a road between the Eternal Domain and Red Mud Wetland in the future. ’Trucks’ will be even faster on such a road..."
As he spoke of building a road between the Eternal Domain and Red Mud Wetland, Duan’er was quite proud. The other Werewolf Clan Leaders also cast envious glances at him. With a road, it would be far more convenient for Red Mud Wetland to receive supplies and support from the Eternal Domain.
The ’Truck,’ carrying archers, drove past the front of the venue. The archers continuously fired colored smoke into the distant sky, showcasing the mobile attack power of this combination.
The military parade was drawing to a close; everything that needed to be displayed had been presented.
After the farmers with colored flags paraded around the venue twice, Yan Xing invited the Werewolf Clan Leaders inside the circular venue. By this time, Eddie had led the Heavy Spearmen in through another door. They stood by the circular conference table against the wall, adding even more grandeur to the already impressive venue.
The Werewolf Clan Leaders had no idea that the same group of Heavy Spearmen had passed before their eyes three times. After all, with their identical armor and helmets, they couldn’t distinguish one from another. Back and forth, a few dozen Heavy Spearmen created the impression of more than two hundred.
Combined with so many Light Armored Werewolf Warriors, archers, and such a dazzling array of equipment, it made the Werewolf Clan Leaders feel that the Eternal Domain could easily crush five or six Werewolf Tribes.
The Eternal Domain truly is as the rumors suggested: rich and powerful!
The Werewolf Clan Leaders, following the maids’ lead, took their seats around the circular conference table.
The moment their rears touched the chairs... such surprising softness!
Rubbing their backsides, so comfortable!
What is this made of?
The towering dome made the already spacious meeting hall seem even more open and bright. The large conference table accommodated the thirty-odd Clan Leaders without any sense of crowding. In front of each Clan Leader, the table was set with purified water and two dishes—one held apples and bananas, the other... dog food.
The maids walked around the conference table, politely placing printed documents in front of the Clan Leaders.
It didn’t matter whether the Clan Leaders could read them or not—it was all about the presentation.
Indeed, after the opening ceremony and the parade, seeing such a splendid conference hall made all the Werewolf Clan Leaders sit rigidly in their seats. Their hands were restrained, unsure where to place them for fear of embarrassing themselves and becoming the laughingstock of the Werewolf Tribes in such a formal venue.
Yan Xing was very satisfied with the Werewolves’ demeanor.
Seeing them all sit as primly as elementary school students confirms that my extensive preparations for this conference... haven’t been wasted.
Now, all the Werewolf Clan Leaders were holding their breath and looking his way; the hierarchy between superior and subordinates had already been intangibly established. Yan Xing first nodded to Duan’er and Li Zhua, who were seated on either side of him.
Then, he unscrewed a bottle of purified water, took a sip, and, in a deliberate gesture, put on a pair of glasses. "I thank all you Clan Leaders for coming to the Eternal Domain to attend the first Thunderous Swamp Southern Werewolf Tribe Clan Leaders’ Conference.
"I believe this conference will bring about unprecedented changes to the southern Werewolf Tribes of the Thunderous Swamp. It may even influence a larger area of the swamp, benefiting many Werewolf Tribes facing existential challenges.
"Therefore, we need to hold such conferences more often, regularly. Let us lay out our concerns and conflicts here and work together to resolve them.
"I have never believed that conflict and war are the best ways to solve problems; on the contrary, I consider them the worst.
"Take, for instance, what I personally experienced... the war between the Red Mud Wetland Werewolf Tribe and the Stenchwater Forest Werewolf Tribe. The cause of that war is the very agarwood issue we are here to address today.
"If the Stenchwater Forest Tribe hadn’t invaded Red Mud Wetland to seize agarwood, but had instead told Clan Leader Duan’er that agarwood could be traded with the merchant Eden for food; if they had informed the other Werewolf Tribes who were unaware of this...
"All of your Werewolf Tribes could have united to control the agarwood supply, enabling you to demand a higher purchase price from Eden, instead of letting Werewolf Warriors die senselessly for a pitiful exchange rate of ten to one.
"Clan Leader Li Zhua, you lost so many Werewolf Warriors in Red Mud Wetland, and their deaths were meaningless. I believe many more Werewolf Warriors have perished in the struggle for agarwood—all of them died meaningless deaths."
Yan Xing’s voice wasn’t loud, but his words struck each Werewolf Clan Leader’s heart like a heavy hammer. The Werewolf Tribes were not large, and each Werewolf Warrior was a tribe’s most precious treasure. The loss of even one meant less food for the tribe, sometimes forcing them to abandon cubs. Although trade with the merchant Eden brought additional food to these Werewolf Tribes, every tribe had, to some extent, sacrificed Warriors for agarwood.
This was especially true for the Stenchwater Forest Werewolf Tribe. In their invasion of Red Mud Wetland, dozens of their Werewolf Warriors died, dozens more were captured, and even Steel Fang was now imprisoned in the Eternal Domain. If Lord Yan Xing hadn’t restrained Duan’er from attacking Stenchwater Forest, the Stenchwater Forest Werewolf Tribe might have already been annihilated.
