Chapter 68: Chapter 68 This is War_1

The sound of the bugle from the direction of the Eternal Domain shattered the quiet of the plains. It also caused the rapidly advancing alliance army of orcs, humans, and werewolves to slow their pace.

The Orc Malevolent Wolf Cavalry leader, Gustav, leapt to stand on the back of his wolf mount. No matter how much the wolf mount jostled while running, Gustav’s feet seemed rooted to its back as if nailed there. He looked into the distance and saw that the defenders of the Eternal Domain had already formed a battle array outside their territory. They’ve been discovered!

Gustav remounted his wolf mount and led his troops to relocate to a nearby slope. The entire advance team of Malevolent Wolf Cavalry completed their turn and took over the slope in an extremely short time. Meanwhile, a large number of Malevolent Wolf Cavalry scattered to perform reconnaissance across the entire battlefield. Such minor tactical maneuvers fully demonstrated the orc army’s elite status and their abundant combat experience.

By contrast, the Werewolf Tribe’s performance was a textbook negative example. The combination of warriors from more than thirty Werewolf Tribes, while following the Malevolent Wolf Cavalry to seize the slope, really looked like a mob of ragtag soldiers. They essentially split into over thirty small groups and then rushed up en masse. They showed no discernible formation or order whatsoever.

This chaos was not an intentional display by the werewolves. Their expertise lay within the swamps, and their war experience amounted to no more than skirmishes between villages for food. The werewolves lacked experience in large-scale military engagements. Especially when running freely on the open plains, as they ran, their formation would inevitably break apart.

Gustav cast a disdainful glance at the werewolves, who had once belonged to the same orc power, then turned his attention to the Eternal Domain, which was now fully in view. Even though he had mentally prepared himself, he was still stunned by what he saw.

"They actually used iron to build a fence around their territory, and there are two of them..."

After Yarlin directed the mercenaries to form lines, he rode his horse beside Gustav. Gazing at the Eternal Domain, he couldn’t help exclaiming, "Seeing these defenses again, I’m just as shocked as when I first came here. Do you see the armor worn by the soldiers of the Eternal Domain? Full-plate armor worthy of a knight’s envy, and yet the Lord here has provided each militiaman with one. He has no idea how much effort a knight must put forth to earn a suit of armor. A set of armor is both a knight’s companion and his honor. If contemptible militiamen can so easily wear such fine armor, it is an absolute insult to the knights."

Yarlin looked at the armor worn by the militiamen, his eyes filled with both envy and anger. As the lowest military unit in the human army, militia didn’t deserve such fine armor! It should belong to true knights.

Gustav, who was standing by, said, "Only the cowardly are fixated on armor. If our orc warriors were to wear such tin cans, they would be laughed at. Armor... being adequate is enough. All that armor could have been made into more steel blades. When we take the Eternal Domain later, let’s split the armor and weapons... give the werewolves some food and peasants. Iron rusts easily in the swamp, so giving it to them would be a waste."

Yarlin pointed at Yan Xing, who was standing on horseback outside the territory, and said, "His armor is mine! And the horse... is mine too!"

Gustav laughed, "The horse is good, but we orcs can’t tame horses, so it’s all yours. That suit of armor is also yours... but I want two more sets of the armor from the militiamen."

"No problem. That’s a very fair allocation."

Even though the Eternal Domain had discovered their army, both Gustav and Yarlin, upon seeing the enemy’s force of less than a hundred, had no doubt about the outcome of the war. On their side were three hundred elite Malevolent Wolf Cavalry and nearly a hundred mercenaries with rich combat experience. Although the werewolves seemed rather unimpressive, they had a large number of heroes and an undisclosed quantity of Poison Flies hidden away. Their forces were several times the size of the enemy’s. How could they lose? How could they lose?

Afterward, the Malevolent Wolf Cavalry who had spread out for reconnaissance reported back: no ambush from enemy forces was found around the Eternal Domain.

With the enemy in sight, Gustav commanded, "All troops, advance!"

Under Gustav’s command, the Malevolent Wolf Cavalry maintained their formation and slowly marched down the hillside towards the Eternal Domain defenders. The human mercenaries gathered on the left flank of the Malevolent Wolf Cavalry and advanced together. War preparations were carried out on the move. The heroes accompanying the army cast various defensive and enhancement spells on the frontline warriors: Stone Skin Protection, Protective Divine Shield, Imperial Qi Techniques, Strength of the Warrior, and Fighting Spirit High.

In the meantime, some magic spells were cast forward from within the moving columns. These spells struck the empty ground ahead and rippled outwards in energetic waves, designed to dismantle any possible traps. They were also aimed at suppressing the morale of the opposing forces.

This left Yan Xing, who had been in such high spirits moments before, suddenly dumbfounded. Can war be waged like this in a world where magic exists?

The advancing Malevolent Wolf Cavalry right before his eyes and the werewolves that had attacked the Eternal Domain previously were like armies from two different worlds. The front line of the Malevolent Wolf Cavalry’s advancing column was almost a straight line. They left enough space between each wolf rider to allow the rear ranks to move up and quickly change formations if needed. Moreover, each of the foremost Malevolent Wolf Cavalry shimmered with different colored halos, and every other rider was clad in a layer of stone armor. Magic spells shot from behind the army were clearing the path for the wolf riders. This... Could this be considered coordinated infantry and artillery combat?

The powerful military might, like a mountain, pressed towards the Eternal Domain defenders, causing the peasants holding flowers and colorful banners to turn deathly pale.

Yan Xing activated his skill, Inspire, to steady the hearts of his own forces.

Mounted on his warhorse, Yan Xing watched the Malevolent Wolf Cavalry approach step by step and realized his sense of superiority from the modern world had made him underestimate this seemingly primitive world. So wars can be fought like this. So magic can be used like this. The victory over the werewolves at Red Mud Wetland and Stenchwater Forest wasn’t because he was particularly strong. It was really... because the werewolves were too weak. He had truly overestimated his own importance.

While reflecting on himself, Yan Xing was also relieved that the war had begun under these circumstances. Strengthening his military might must always be the primary goal for the Eternal Domain. If he continued to be complacent, he might not be so lucky in the next war.

"Olaf, spear!"

Olaf, who was riding alongside Yan Xing’s warhorse, handed him a silver spear. Yan Xing grabbed it and urged his horse out of the formation. He turned the power of the built-in fans in his armor up to the maximum, causing his streamers to flutter loudly.

He signaled to Gao Sipa behind him to turn on the sound system. Speaking into the microphone mounted on his armor, Yan Xing said, "I am Lord Yan Xing of the Eternal Domain. You lot, who is the leader... come out and speak with me!"

Yan Xing’s sound system was originally prepared to play a welcoming tune; the music, "Good Day!", had already been selected. Happy days!

Now Yan Xing’s voice was broadcasted through the loudspeakers, clearly audible across the entire grassland. Suddenly, the advancing Malevolent Wolf Cavalry halted in their tracks. Their momentum instantly diminished. How could one person’s voice be so loud! Unless he had used a powerful magic spell.
