Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Are You Sent by the Enemy? (Seeking Recommendations and Favorites)_1

As they approached the Thunderous Swamp, the grass grew thicker. Then came stretches of dense shrubbery, which took on various grim shapes under the moonlight.

The moisture content of the soil increased, and the ground became soggy.

The wheels skidded, and the vehicle slowed down until, ultimately, the farm trike got stuck in a puddle.

Yan Xing stopped the vehicle and jumped out of the cab, only to see its tires caked with mud.

Eddie approached from the front and said to Yan Xing, "Milord, just ahead is the Red Mud Wetland. Your vehicle’s wheels are too caked with mud; it can’t move."

At that moment, Duan’er clambered out of the cab as well.

He looked at the stars and the surrounding environment, then said to Yan Xing, "Right, just ahead is the Red Mud Wetland. There’s a lot of silt and puddles in the swamp. We’d better proceed on foot."

Yan Xing gestured for Olaf to lead the team off the vehicle, then instructed him, "Take a werewolf and scout ahead to the Red Mud Wetland. Clan Leader Duan’er and I will follow with the main force. Be sure to ascertain how many werewolves from the Stenchwater Forest are invading and the situation within the tribal homeland. Do not expose yourself rashly! We’ll discuss everything once we get there."

"Yes, Milord!" Olaf agreed and then chose a werewolf to quickly head towards the Red Mud Wetland.

At this time, the militia and werewolves from the Eternal Domain, as well as the werewolves from the Duan’er Tribe, had all disembarked from the vehicle.

Including the departing Olaf, the total force for Yan Xing’s night attack on the Red Mud Wetland consisted of: eight First Order Steel Armored Werewolves, four regular First Order Werewolves, three regular Second Order Great Werewolves, one Steel Armored Second Order elite Roarer, sixteen Second Order Steel Armored Militia, and five Fifth Order Poison Flies.

Duan’er was a Swamp Werewolf Beast Tamer, a hero unit.

Yan Xing himself was a Human Knight, a hero unit.

Although the number of invading werewolves from the Stenchwater Forest was not yet known, Yan Xing’s force was definitely at a numerical disadvantage.

As for advantages, the equipment from the Eternal Domain could compensate for this numerical inferiority, and the suddenness of the night attack could also serve as a significant advantage for the attackers.

After Olaf left, Yan Xing asked Duan’er, "Inside the Red Mud Wetland, is there a place close to your tribal homeland that’s also suitable for hiding?"

Duan’er thought for a moment and said, "To the east of our homeland, there is a forest of tall trees. The ground there is riddled with water holes, some of which are covered with duckweed and completely invisible. Treacherous underground tunnels and currents also run beneath these water holes. Anyone who doesn’t know the way would find themselves on a one-way path to death. The werewolves from the Stenchwater Forest definitely wouldn’t dare to come near that place."

It was a good place to conceal themselves before a sneak attack.

"Let’s head there first to await news from Olaf. Please, Clan Leader Duan’er, lead the way."

"Follow me!"

Duan’er led the way, and the mixed army of werewolves and Humans trudged through the damp grassland into the Red Mud Wetland.

The vegetation in the Red Mud Wetland was very lush. However, because the ground was wet and soft, the trees there were not tall, growing in twisted shapes instead.

Some trees had branches that trailed along the ground, taking root and sprouting new ones.

The intertwined trees and branches formed a dense thicket. Navigating through it, one could easily trip if not careful.

The swamp also had a complex water system. One step might be on solid ground, and the next could plunge into a man-eating quagmire.

Coupled with omnipresent toxic plants, animals, and high-order magical beasts lurking in unknown places, the swamp was effectively isolated from the outside world.

Even swamp creatures dared not wander recklessly here, let alone members of other races.

Yan Xing led his militia, carefully following the werewolves’ advance. They stepped only where the werewolves had trod, not daring to test the seemingly more comfortable grass beside the path.

The team wove through the oddly shaped woods, occasionally startling a few glowing butterflies.

Croaking frogs echoed from the mud and puddles, while dark shadows of unknown beasts suddenly darted out only to vanish into the grass.

Everything here made the Humans, new to the swamp, exceptionally tense. In contrast, the werewolves, who lived in the Red Mud Wetland, seemed very relaxed.

They followed familiar paths from one dense thicket to another until they entered the hardwood forest Duan’er had said was suitable for hiding.

Ponds were more numerous here, and walkable paths fewer. In some places, only palm-sized footholds existed, requiring them to leap from one to the next.

This was only the fringe of the Thunderous Swamp. Who knew what perils its depths held?

The inability of outsiders to enter the swamp, combined with the backward civilization of the Swamp Tribe, meant this was an undeveloped, virgin territory.

Yan Xing, hailing from modern Earth, naturally understood what such a land represented.

It surely held vast, undiscovered resources and wealth.

To the east of the Eternal Domain lay a cliff separating ocean and land. To the south was territory controlled by Marquis Ram Anderson, leaving no room for the Eternal Domain’s expansion.

To the west was the battleground between the Human Race, Beast Race, and Elf Race. If Yan Xing dared to get involved now, he would undoubtedly have his legs broken by all three.

Given the Eternal Domain’s own scarce resources, Yan Xing naturally turned his gaze to its northern neighbor: the Thunderous Swamp.

Therefore, whether for its own defense or as a forward base for deeper incursions into the Thunderous Swamp, the Red Mud Wetland’s importance in Yan Xing’s strategic thinking grew significantly.

Yan Xing pondered all the way on how to begin tapping the value of the swamp region. Just as they entered the hardwood forest, a commotion arose from the werewolf pack up ahead.

All the werewolves suddenly sped up, and the short cries of a hunting pack echoed throughout the forest.

While Yan Xing wondered what was happening, the voice of one of his Steel Armored Werewolves came through his shoulder radio.

"Milord, we’ve captured several werewolves from the Stenchwater Forest tribe..."

Yan Xing was baffled.

Was Duan’er really this unreliable? He said werewolves from the Stenchwater Forest tribe definitely wouldn’t come to this hardwood forest. Yet we’ve passed so many forests without encountering a single one, and now we run into them here? He must be an enemy plant!

Yan Xing and his militia quickened their pace. He inquired into the radio, "How many werewolves did you capture? Did any escape?"

"Reporting to Milord... all four Stenchwater Forest werewolves were captured. They were here gathering rotten wood. We really don’t know what they need this rotten wood for; it’s heavier than stone and sinks in water. Milord, it’s safe now. You can come over."

By then, Yan Xing could see the halted werewolf pack.

The werewolves spread out, on guard.

In their midst were four tightly bound werewolves, covered in mud from head to toe.

When Yan Xing approached, Duan’er said rather awkwardly, "I also can’t imagine why the Stenchwater Forest werewolves would come here. Fortunately, they all fell into mud pits while trying to escape, and we captured every one of them."
