Chapter 37 - A New Child of Fate Has Been Found
Chapter 037: A New Child of Fate Has Been Found
As the helicopters went after Die Luo’s team, Su Mingxuan quickly made his way toward the concrete building.
Even though he knew the little princess was safe, he wouldn’t feel at ease until he personally checked for himself. Never mind Su Xiaomeng’s identity—at the very least, the two of them had grown up together, and their bond ran deep.
“Brother Mingxuan…” As she saw him walking over, Su Xiaomeng immediately pulled Bai Suxin with her and ran down the stairs, practically leaping into his arms like a little bird returning to its nest.
“I was so scared,” she said, sniffling as if crying.
Though she seemed distraught, her eyes were dry—no tears at all—and there was a hint of mischief in her expression. But to Su Mingxuan, whether it was real or not didn’t matter. As long as Xiaomeng was unharmed, that was enough.
Holding her tightly, he gently patted her back and said affectionately, “It’s okay now, Xiaomeng. Your big brother is here. Tell me—did you get hurt anywhere?”
As he spoke, he scanned her from head to toe. Aside from her very noticeable curves, he didn’t see anything out of place.
“No,” she replied, shaking her head in his arms. Her voice carried a trace of sorrow. “But Uncle Liu died protecting me. Those bad people were horrible. Brother Mingxuan, don’t let them get away with it!”
Su Mingxuan’s eyes turned cold. He still didn’t know who these people were or why they were targeting Bai Suxin. This woman really was a walking disaster.
He frowned and asked, “Why weren’t you at home, Xiaomeng? What were you doing running off to this damned… ahem, what I meant was, what were you doing out here?”
He almost said the wrong thing and quickly corrected himself.
Bai Suxin: “…”
Even though he’d changed his words mid-sentence, how could Bai Suxin—who was standing right next to Su Xiaomeng—not understand what he meant? Her face flushed with shame.
“I’m sorry, Su Mingxuan,” Bai Suxin said softly. “Xiaomeng ended up in danger because of me. If someone needs to be blamed, blame me.” Her voice was filled with sorrow.
It was true—she really did seem to bring nothing but trouble. Since meeting her, both Mingxuan and Xiaomeng had been drawn into dangerous situations, over and over again, always needing to rescue her.
Su Mingxuan shot her a flat glance. With how unlucky she was, what Child of Fate could possibly survive being around her? he thought to himself.
Seeing that Su Mingxuan seemed displeased with Bai Suxin, Su Xiaomeng quickly clung to him and said, “Don’t blame Sister Bai. I came to see her on my own. I just got to this city and don’t have any friends yet. And you were out…”
Looking at her sad expression, how could Su Mingxuan really be angry? He rubbed her head and said, “We’ll talk more when we get back.” Then he turned to Bai Suxin. “You’re not going anywhere either!”
Bai Suxin: “…”
She wasn’t planning on going anywhere. Seeing how stern he looked, she lowered her head and wrung her hands together, looking every bit like someone about to be scolded.
“Young Master Su,” a bodyguard approached and said quietly, “someone over there wants to speak with you.”
Su Mingxuan turned and saw that the helicopter had landed at some point. A group of fully armed soldiers stood at a distance, and the one leading them was walking in his direction.
Su Mingxuan nodded. “Let him come.”
“Yes, sir,” the bodyguards responded, making way for the soldier.
The lead soldier walked up to Su Mingxuan and gave a formal salute. “Are you Young Master Su?”
Su Mingxuan nodded.
“We were ordered by our commander to protect Miss Su. The enemies have all been neutralized. Unfortunately, the distance was too great, and we caused you some unnecessary stress,” the soldier said seriously.
“It’s fine,” Su Mingxuan replied calmly.
These were men of steel and blood. No matter what, Su Mingxuan would always show them the respect they deserved.
“What kind of people were those attackers?” he asked, his gaze flickering toward Bai Suxin.
Bai Suxin remained silent.
The soldier hesitated. It was classified information, and normally, he wouldn’t be allowed to disclose it. But he knew very well—if Su Mingxuan wanted to know, he had plenty of ways to find out. So what was the point of hiding it now?
He sighed and explained, “They were members of the Wolf Fang and Falcon Special Forces. Five years ago, they betrayed the country. Most of them were purged, but the remaining members fled under the leadership of their commander. They’ve been in hiding ever since…”
Treason?
A faint thought flickered through Su Mingxuan’s mind, but he couldn’t quite grasp it.
“Wait, that doesn’t add up,” Su Xiaomeng suddenly interjected. “Didn’t that woman earlier say it was Sister Bai who betrayed the country? Why is it these people now?”
Su Mingxuan: “…”
Bai Suxin: “…”
The soldier: “…”
%@#¥%@%!!
Yeah, he was just going to pretend he didn’t hear that. Who knew what kind of tangled web of cause and effect this whole thing involved?
The soldier awkwardly turned his head away, trying to act like he hadn’t heard a thing.
Su Mingxuan, meanwhile, stared intently at Bai Suxin. What was up with this woman? Why did everything bad seem to fall on her head? And now there was even a treason charge?
Just as he had this thought, the familiar mechanical voice of the system rang in his mind.
【Ding! Because the host rescued Bai Suxin and killed Die Luo and others from the Langya Squad, a significant grievance has been formed with Child of Fate Ye Tian. The system will now begin tracking Ye Tian. From this moment on, you are mortal enemies…】
【Ding! A new Child of Fate has been discovered… Ye Tian. Title: The Returning War God. Potential Threat: SSS+?? Direct Threat Level: SSS+!! A mysterious soldier king, exiled abroad due to a setup, now returned seeking revenge!!】
Su Mingxuan: “…”
Really? They had to take it this far? What kind of absurd Child of Fate was this?
Direct threat level SSS+ was bad enough, but even the potential threat had a question mark?
You’ve got to be kidding me. This woman really is a curse magnet.
