Me, A Villain! Is It So Wrong To Live off The Heroines?
Chapter 36 - Not Even Your Boss Can Save You

Chapter 036: Not Even Your Boss Can Save You

Almost at the exact moment Su Mingxuan’s bodyguard warned him, Die Luo made her move. “Go!” she commanded softly, and her group quickly charged into the nearby cover.

Rat-a-tat-tat—the bodyguards on Su Mingxuan’s side immediately pulled their triggers.

A barrage of gunfire echoed through the area, bullets kicking up dirt and dust as they struck the ground in fierce waves. Two of Die Luo’s subordinates failed to react in time and were instantly riddled with bullets. But Die Luo and her team didn’t have the luxury of hesitation.

These were warriors hardened by countless brushes with death. Any distraction would mean dying even faster.

The storm of automatic gunfire continued. Die Luo and a few of her people leapt onto the roof of a nearby low building. Using the elevation to her advantage, she flung two throwing knives toward a pair of bodyguards. With a flash and a thud, the blades hit their mark precisely.

The rest of her team joined in, returning fire with their own weapons. A fierce firefight erupted in the narrow area of less than two thousand square meters.

Still, the firepower of Su Mingxuan’s bodyguards was overwhelming. With fully automatic rifles in hand, they left Die Luo’s people barely able to lift their heads.

Breaking out through this wall of bullets was a fantasy.

Die Luo had only managed to throw two knives before she could no longer find a chance to attack. For elites like her, it wasn’t about wasting energy. If you made a move, it had to count. War wasn’t a game. There was no “you shoot, I shoot” kind of fairness here.

“What now, Die Luo? We can’t break through,” a woman crouched beside her called out in frustration.

Gunfire still rained down. The rooftop bricks above them shattered under the onslaught. But then, after just a few seconds, the gunfire lessened significantly. The other side was reloading.

An opportunity.

Die Luo’s eyes lit up. Just as she prepared to act, her phone suddenly rang. Now? She quickly pulled it out and answered, “Boss, we’re surrounded!”

“I know,” came a deep voice from the other end. “Withdraw northwest. The special ops unit has arrived. Be careful… I’ve arranged for Viper to meet you two kilometers out.”

Then the call ended.

Northwest? Two kilometers? That was the direction of Bai Suxin’s location. Die Luo didn’t hesitate. She called to her team, “Boss says we head northwest, two kilometers.”

Even though it meant passing right by the concrete building, Die Luo understood something. As long as they didn’t touch the little girl, that fairy-like woman wouldn’t make another move. She was a guardian, after all. And guardians only protected.

“Retreat! Move!” she shouted, and her team echoed her command.

More than a dozen people rushed toward the alley near Su Xiaomeng’s hiding spot. Su Mingxuan’s bodyguards wouldn’t miss such a chance. As the muzzles of their rifles spat fire, two more of Die Luo’s subordinates were shredded by bullets.

Seeing them about to reach the alleyway, Su Mingxuan’s eyes turned icy. “Don’t let them escape,” he ordered. “Kill as many as you can.”

“Yes, sir.” The bodyguards responded immediately. Leaving a few men to protect Su Mingxuan, the rest took off in pursuit.

At that moment, a roar filled the sky.

Su Mingxuan looked up to see over ten military helicopters speeding toward them. The thunderous noise was like a storm breaking loose.

Just one glance, and he knew—someone higher up had been notified. What was Su Xiaomeng’s identity? Even if those attackers had taken her hostage, they wouldn’t have gotten far.

The phrase “Under the heavens, all lands belong to the king” didn’t exist for nothing.

The helicopters wasted no time and veered toward Die Luo’s team.

“Target acquired, ten o’clock,” someone announced from above.

The thermal sensors quickly locked onto the heat signatures of the fleeing enemies. Against this level of high-tech surveillance, individual power was meaningless. No matter how they tried to run or circle back, the sensors wouldn’t lose track of them.

Soon, the helicopters passed over the area and formed a tight encirclement. After all, what era were they living in? No human on foot could outrun aircraft.

“Wolf Fang Squad, you have one chance. Surrender,” a voice rang out from one of the helicopters. “Otherwise… don’t blame us for disregarding old alliances.”

Die Luo bit her lip and led her people into the ruins of an abandoned building complex. This was still the slums. The relocation of factories had driven out most residents, so the civilian population here was minimal. Otherwise, a firefight of this intensity would’ve led to countless casualties.

The soldiers in the helicopters knew this as well. When Die Luo ignored their warning, they took it as a final refusal.

Several helicopters rotated their mounted Gatling guns into position, aiming them at the targets below.

“This is your last warning,” the voice boomed once more.

Still no response.

Die Luo and her team knew exactly what would happen. Even if they surrendered, they’d be taken away for interrogation—and eventually killed. Ever since the incident five years ago, they’d known there was no turning back.

The helicopters didn’t bother to wait anymore.

Rat-a-tat-tat!

The Gatling cannons erupted in a chorus of thunder.

A storm of bullets rained down, cutting across the sky in streams of blazing light. The abandoned buildings were torn apart, walls punched full of holes the size of basketballs.

The fire kept going. One building was completely demolished under the barrage. Maybe thirty seconds later, the guns finally ceased.

Because there was no point anymore.

The thermal sensors no longer picked up any signs of life. They had crossed the Su family and there was only one outcome for that.

Death.
