Chapter 404: Chapter 243: For Your Picking_2
"That was just..."
Chen Cheng lowered his voice mysteriously, saying, "Just now, our cable car became spirited, it felt the car ahead was too slow, blocking the way, so it... kicked it!"
Meng Wanning was startled at first, but then realized that Chen Cheng was teasing her. A smile appeared on her face, which was previously pale due to nervousness.
But she still didn’t open her eyes, "Grandpa, you’re just talking nonsense!"
"I’m telling the truth!"
Chen Cheng, with a straight face, continued with nonsense, "Qianling Mountain is quite a geomantic treasure spot, it’s normal to have some spiritual essence, who knows, maybe right now a thousand-year-old spiritually cultivated turtle is carrying us on its back!"
As he spoke, he stomped his feet deliberately and mimicked the turtle in a slow tone,
"Off we go, off we go, the guy blocking the way finally moved, it’s been tiresome for this old turtle!"
Meng Wanning, amused by his exaggerated performance, laughed out loud, "Grandpa, you’re so bad! Even now, you’re still joking!"
"Aren’t your eyes closed? How do you know what time it is?"
Meng Wanning: "I have my feelings!"
"What feelings?"
"The sense of my surroundings... I felt that the cable car stopped just now."
Chen Cheng looked down at her, and her delicate red lips were right in front of him.
He instinctively moved closer.
Meng Wanning took a deep breath, her hands that were holding onto Chen Cheng quickly loosened, and her body subconsciously recoiled.
She felt the hot breath on her face and sensed Chen Cheng’s warmth getting closer.
The long eyelashes, shaking because of nervousness, now trembled even more fiercely.
"There really is a reaction," Chen Cheng remarked.
Meng Wanning bit her lower lip. Although she didn’t open her eyes, she had already pictured Chen Cheng’s action of moving towards her lips.
"Grandpa... I didn’t mean to dodge... I just..."
"I just feared the cable car might suddenly move again, I..."
Meng Wanning’s voice grew softer, nearly inaudible towards the end. She didn’t know why she was explaining, nor did she know how to explain.
Chen Cheng watched her flustered expression, could not help laughing and said, "What are you thinking about?"
He gently flicked her nose, "Besides, even if the cable car moved, I would hold you tight and not let you fall."
Meng Wanning’s cheeks flushed slightly, "Who...who wants you to hold them..."
"Hmm? Don’t want me to hold you?" Chen Cheng continued, "Then I really won’t hold you."
"Don’t... I was just worried about others seeing us..."
Meng Wanning timidly extended her arms, whispering quietly, "If you want to hold, then hold."
Chen Cheng looked at Meng Wanning allowing herself to be embraced, the mountain wind brushed through her hair, making her look incredibly charming.
He cleared his throat, lifted his hands, and dropped his earlier embracing arms.
"Grandpa... Aren’t you holding me?"
"We’ve arrived," Chen Cheng spoke.
Meng Wanning slowly opened her eyes, the cable car station was right in front of them, only about a few meters away.
"Arrived?"
She seemed not to have fully registered it yet, her eyes still carried a trace of daze as if she was startled from a dream.
"Are we there?" her eyes still carried a trace of daze, as if she was startled from a dream.
"Yes, we’re here."
Chen Cheng smiled, rubbing her head, "Ready? We’re going to land smoothly."
"Yeah."
Meng Wanning looked into Chen Cheng’s eyes, "Grandpa, aren’t you happy?"
"Unhappy? No, I’m not unhappy."
Swipe.
The carriage door opened, and Chen Cheng extended his hand to Meng Wanning, "Come on down."
Stepping out from the cable car, they returned to the car.
Chen Cheng said, "Let’s go back to Kaiyang first and get your luggage sorted."
Meng Wanning, sitting in the passenger seat without fastening her seat belt, lowered her head, "Grandpa, earlier..."
She hesitated for a moment, but couldn’t help asking, "Why did you do that just now?"
"What do you mean?"
"Just...just..."
Meng Wanning’s face became even redder, stammering without completing her sentence.
"Just what?"
"Just..." Meng Wanning took a deep breath, gathering her courage, "Why did you stop when you were about to kiss me?"
She turned to face Chen Cheng directly, "Is it because I dodged away, and you got mad?"
Chen Cheng, seeing Meng Wanning’s earnest look and realizing she genuinely misunderstood, felt both amused and a bit pained.
"What are you thinking about? How could I be mad at you?"
"But you..." Meng Wanning looked tearfully at Chen Cheng, "you then didn’t..."
Chen Cheng drew her into his arms, and Meng Wanning nestled comfortably within his strong embrace.
"I didn’t want to be frivolous with you," Chen Cheng spoke, "You are precious, I want to save this precious moment for a more romantic time and place."
"Grandpa..."
Meng Wanning was deeply moved, her nose slightly sour and her eyes moistened.
She buried her head deeper into Chen Cheng’s embrace and softly said, "Grandpa, you are so kind..."
"Being with you, to me, is happiness, is joy."
Chen Cheng continued, "So, I’m not unhappy, I truly feel blessed."
Meng Wanning nodded vigorously, "Mm! I understand."
"But..."
"But what?"
Meng Wanning said embarrassedly, "This handle, it’s poking me."
Chen Cheng looked down and saw Meng Wanning’s body pressed against the gear lever.
He quickly let go, "Does it hurt?"
Meng Wanning shook her head with a smile.
"Next time we’ll switch to a car with a different gear layout, this broken Audi is troublesome," Chen Cheng joked.
Meng Wanning didn’t quite understand but a blissful smile spread across her face.
At least, in her view, Chen Cheng was considering her again.
"Buckle up, we’re heading off."
Meng Wanning obediently did so, clicking the seatbelt into place.
She stretched out her hand, playfully saying, "Grandpa, I want to hold your hand."
Chen Cheng freed his right hand and held the hand Meng Wanning extended.
"Grandpa, your hand is so warm!" Meng Wanning said joyfully.
"Your hand is very soft too."
Chen Cheng said with a smile, started the car, and slowly left the parking lot.
...
...
Back in Kaiyang, following Meng Wanning’s directions, Chen Cheng arrived at the Golden City Hotel.
Though it was called a hotel, it was actually just a one-story private motel.
Since there was no visible parking lot, Chen Cheng, like most cars, parked alongside the road, "Is this the place?"
Meng Wanning nodded, checking the time, "It’s not yet 2 o’clock, I’ll go up first to pack."
"Let’s go together."
Chen Cheng disembarked from the car with her.
The two walked up hand in hand, like a couple.
Arriving in front of the room, Meng Wanning took out a room card from her bag and swiped the door open.
Zhang Zhang, who was sharing the room with her, had already packed up and gone home.
The room was empty except for Meng Wanning’s simple luggage still in the corner.
Chen Cheng glanced around, "These days must have been tough on you."
Meng Wanning appeared quite open-minded, she opened the wardrobe and started taking out clothes, "Actually, it’s okay. The worst accommodation I’ve had wasn’t even as good as this."
She quickly packed the clothes, placing them one by one into her suitcase.
After checking the bathroom to ensure nothing was left behind, she said, "Done."
Chen Cheng got up from the chair, "Here, let me help you."
Saying that, he moved forward to lift the suitcase.
"No need, I can manage it. It’s not heavy."
Without a word, Chen Cheng grabbed the handle and lifted the suitcase.
The case was somewhat heavy; he hadn’t realized the struggle frail Meng Wanning had undergone traveling alone this distance.
"Let’s go." He said, and headed towards the door.
Meng Wanning followed behind him, feeling a sense of security and happiness looking at Chen Cheng’s tall figure.
Once downstairs, Meng Wanning went to check out.
Chen Cheng went ahead to the car and placed the luggage in the trunk.
Then, reaching the front of the car, something in the corner of his eye made him freeze.
"Grandpa, we can go now."
Chen Cheng, with hands in his pockets, pointed to the left front wheel, "We can’t go."
Meng Wanning followed the direction he pointed and saw a big yellow lock clamping the Audi’s front wheel.
"Locked?"
She was quite surprised, still learning how to drive, she asked Chen Cheng, "Grandpa, in this situation, shouldn’t they just issue a parking fine? Why would they lock the car?"
Chen Cheng walked forward, noticed the lock bore the word ’City Management’.
He looked again at his parking spot, which was just beyond the pavement line but due to nearly being level with the road, he hadn’t noticed when he parked.
Checking the other cars around, each one had been clamped.
"Different responsibilities, I guess."
Chen Cheng took out his phone, "Don’t worry, I’ll handle it."
He glanced at the nearby shops, "You go to that milk tea shop and get us something to drink."
Meng Wanning nodded, "Grandpa, what would you like to drink?"
Chen Cheng, dialing a number, smiled and said, "Your choice."
