Chapter 360: Chapter 224 Secret_2

"Which strawberry powder should we use?" Xiao Meier asked, pointing at the several packets of fruit powder on the table.

Su Liya seriously compared the color and scent of each strawberry powder, and finally chose a pink one that emitted a rich strawberry fragrance.

"Let’s use this one, the color is pretty and it smells great!"

The two of them busied themselves with research, from brewing tea, adjusting proportions, to adding ingredients, as if they truly treated this yet-to-open milk tea shop as their lifelong pursuit.

Chen Cheng and Wen Shulin sat on the side, watching the busy figures of the two women with indulgent smiles on their faces.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Li Ya so happy," Wen Shulin said softly.

"Happiness is good!"

Wen Shulin looked at Chen Cheng and suddenly thought of something. She said to Xiao Meier, "Xiao Er, something just came up here, and Mr. Chen needs to handle it with me."

Chen Cheng was puzzled.

Xiao Meier: "Then tonight..."

"Don’t worry, we’ll be back before six," Wen Shulin said, picking up her bag, "Mr. Chen, let’s go."

Chen Cheng, seeing her anxious look, thought Wen Shulin was hurried for another reason.

He smiled, stood up, and said, "Xiao Er, I’ll step out first."

"En, give Sister Lin a hand."

"Li Ya, you must listen to Sister Xiao Er here and don’t run off," Wen Shulin instructed.

Su Liya had heard the conversation between Chen Cheng and Wen Shulin, and with her playful nature, she smiled and said, "I’ll stay here with Sister Xiao Er and make milk tea, waiting for you to return."

"En, be good."

Chen Cheng and Wen Shulin left one after the other, with Chen Cheng taking out his phone, "I’ll ask Xiao Hai to drive."

"No need to, just ride in my car."

As soon as they got in the car, Wen Shulin in the driver’s seat leaned over and gave a solid kiss to Chen Cheng in the passenger seat.

Chen Cheng was caught off guard by this sudden kiss, but soon he immersed himself in it, passionately responding to Wen Shulin.

The breath of the two intertwined as if everything around them had come to a standstill.

After a long while, Wen Shulin slowly withdrew from Chen Cheng’s lips, her cheeks flushed, and her eyes sparkling with a fervent glow.

Chen Cheng gently caressed her cheek, his lips curling into a tender smile.

"Shulin, is this the urgent matter you had to take care of?" asked Chen Cheng softly.

"No," Wen Shulin smiled faintly, "but it’s the start of my courage to face you."

In her eyes, there was a hint of relief as she started the car and drove away from Big Willow Tree.

The car headed south, leaving the South Fourth Ring Road and heading directly for Gu’an County.

...

...

Binhe South Road.

When the Maserati entered this unrenovated shantytown area, Chen Cheng guessed Wen Shulin’s purpose for the visit.

The dilapidated buildings, narrow streets, it was hard to imagine such a place existed only eight kilometers away from Daxing Airport.

"Follow me."

Without saying much, Wen Shulin headed straight for one of the buildings.

They climbed the dimly-lit staircase, the peeling walls plastered with small advertisements.

Reaching the third floor, Wen Shulin stood in front of an iron door, behind which was another wooden door.

She took out a key, paused mid-air with some hesitation.

Behind this door was her real home, laden with her youthful memories.

Bringing Chen Cheng here was a decision she had made after careful consideration.

Wen Shulin wanted Chen Cheng to understand the real her, not just the glamorous facade, but also the past that nobody knew about.

However, standing there, ready to open the long-sealed door, a twinge of fear arose within her.

"How will he see me?"

"Will he despise me?"

"Will this make him leave me?"

A myriad of thoughts tangled in her mind, throwing her heart into chaos.

"Shulin, what’s wrong?" Chen Cheng noticed Wen Shulin’s peculiarity.

Wen Shulin fought to suppress her unease and turned towards Chen Cheng with a strained smile, "It’s nothing, let’s go in."

Saying so, she unlocked the two locks and pushed open the heavy wooden door.

Chen Cheng did not pursue the matter further, silently following her into the room.

The room was small and simply furnished but very clean.

An old wooden table, a few chairs, an antique bookshelf, with a few yellowing photos on the wall, all bearing the marks of time.

"This is where I grew up," Wen Shulin’s voice was low.

Chen Cheng looked around, emotions churning.

He never imagined that a woman as elegant and intelligent as Wen Shulin was born here.

"I grew up here from a young age, both my parents were ordinary workers and life was tight."

Wen Shulin walked to the window, looking out at the familiar scene, her thoughts drifting back to the past, "I’ve been sensible since I was a child, worked hard in my studies, hoping to change my fate through my own efforts."

"You’ve done very well," Chen Cheng came beside her, took her hand to give her strength.

Wen Shulin turned to look at him, her eyes welling up with tears,

"But life is always full of surprises. When I was in university, my father suddenly passed away from illness, with the burden of the household falling onto my mother and me."

"To pay off the debts incurred during my father’s treatment, I had to drop out of school in high school and went out to work to earn money to repay the debts."

Wen Shulin’s voice is choked, but she tried to control her emotions,

"During that time, I did a lot of jobs, as a waitress, saleswoman, and even ran a street stall..."

Chen Cheng looked at her with compassion, unable to imagine how she had endured those difficult times at the age of fifteen or sixteen.

"Later, I went from Langfang to Beijing, where I met Piert."
