Chapter 619: Finding Ning Mu
Chapter 619: Chapter 619: Finding Ning Mu
Jiangli and Fu Shiyan, along with others, soon arrived at the rooftop.
The rooftop of an old residential complex, unlike those of modern ones, was an open terrace shared among residents for drying clothes, with a separate entrance of its own.
The entrance to this building’s terrace was but a simple, old iron fence gate, covered in rust, and the lock, due to rusting, had lost its basic function; with a push of the hand, it could be opened.
There was virtually no protective ability at all.
Jiangli pushed open the iron gate and, together with Fu Shiyan, went up to the rooftop first.
The rooftop was dense with dark mist, filled with Evil Qi.
Upon ascending, Jiangli saw the figure of a person standing near the terrace railing, nearly spectral in appearance.
That person stood there, nearly transparent, so frail that it seemed a gust of wind could blow him over.
The railing of this residential complex’s terrace was like a mere decoration, barely twenty centimeters high; a slight carelessness seemed enough to tumble over it.
Yet he stood there, oblivious to the danger, staring blankly, foolishly, with a vacant and unfocused gaze at the ground below, seemingly lost in thought.
Jiangli looked at him, compared the profile of his face to the photograph that Shang Junxiao had shown her just before, and it was identical to that of another person.
"Ning Mu?"
Jiangli called out to him.
His body stiffened, and the next second, he sluggishly turned his head to look at Jiangli, his eyes filled with bewilderment.
"Are... are you calling me?"
Fu Shiyan and Shang Junxiao, who were dragged up behind by Jiangli, showed some changes in their expressions upon hearing her.
Especially Shang Junxiao, who after a second of stunned silence, looked around, but could not see Ning Mu anywhere.
Shang Junxiao couldn’t help but ask anxiously, "Abbot, where is Ning Mu? Is his soul here?"
"It seems... seems like it’s here..."
Before Jiangli could answer, Xia Xin, who had noticed a figure on the rooftop, patted Shang Junxiao’s arm and pointed in the direction where Ning Mu was.
Ning Mu gazed at them dumbfoundedly, as if still not comprehending, and asked, "Do you know me?"
Jiangli replied calmly, "No, how would I call you by your name? But you, do you still know who you are?"
She then pointed at Shang Junxiao beside her.
"Do... do you recognize him?"
Upon hearing this, Ning Mu followed her gesture, his gaze stiffly turning to Shang Junxiao.
After a moment of dumbfoundedness, his expression relaxed, "Junxiao..."
Shang Junxiao, unable to see Ning Mu or hear his voice, could only listen to Jiangli’s words, his agitation nearly driving him to distraction, "Abbot, is Ning Mu really here? Can you let me see him?"
Jiangli, upon hearing this, took out a Rhinoceros Horn Talisman as usual and burned it in front of Shang Junxiao.
Shortly after, Shang Junxiao felt his pupils heat up, as if about to shed tears.
He blinked rapidly and then opened his eyes again.
Seeing this, Jiangli pointed in a direction, "Take a look."
Shang Junxiao looked in the indicated direction, his pupils instantly dilating, "Ning Mu, you’re really here?!"
Seeing that Shang Junxiao seemed to be able to see him, Ning Mu replied, "I... I’ve been here all along. But how come you’re here?"
Shang Junxiao took two quick steps forward, his voice slightly excited, "I... I heard about your suicide early this morning... I’ve been thinking, if I’d talked to you more yesterday, maybe it wouldn’t have happened. I feel like I need to do something for you, so I went to see the Abbot at Jiaoyang Temple, wanting her to perform a ritual for your salvation. But as soon as we got here, the Abbot said you didn’t commit suicide."
