Chapter 510: Chapter 510: Do You Still Want to Help Them?
Chu’s mother swallowed hard, somewhat stammering.
Seeing that his parents were hesitating to speak, Chu Xi took a deep breath and said, "The solution is, we have to kill my third sister."
Zhou Yiran’s pupils shuddered.
Wenru and Song Taishan were both startled.
"Yes..." Chu’s mother said faintly, her head lowered and shoulders trembling, "The master told us there’s an evil method that could help us..."
The master had told them to find an elm tree on the selected day, place a stone mill under it, and use the mill to crush their third daughter to death.
The amount of blood that splattered on them would supposedly indicate how many sons they could have.
The method sounded sinister and was extremely cruel.
Upon hearing this, Chu’s mother, unable to accept killing her own child, thought of fleeing to her maternal home with her daughters.
But after returning to her maternal home and sharing the story, her relatives remained silent for a long time, eventually persuading Chu’s mother to go back to her in-laws’ home.
The Chu family members came to fetch her too, accusing her from all sides and telling her not to cut off the family line just for her sake.
Caught between her maternal and paternal families, Chu’s mother and her children were taken back to the Chu home against their will.
Chu’s mother and the other two daughters were locked in a room, while the third daughter was carried out by her father-in-law and Chu Xi’s father.
Chu’s mother didn’t know exactly what happened.
She only knew that in the evening, Chu’s father returned with the body of the third daughter, claiming she had died of a serious illness.
Under her wailing and questioning, Chu’s mother learned that Chu’s father had applied the method given by the master.
The method was bizarre; normally, if someone were hit with a stone mill, there would be quite a bit of blood splattered.
But strangely...
There was only a single drop of blood on Chu’s father’s body.
The Chu family believed that the master was genuinely skilled, and they quietly buried the third daughter without even letting Chu’s mother see the body.
No matter how much Chu’s mother broke down or made a fuss, it was of no use.
In their era, divorce was not an accepted practice, and both her maternal and paternal families were from small mountain villages that would never agree to a divorce.
Chu’s mother could only suppress her agony and try to forget the incident.
Later on, the Chu family managed to get around the policy, claiming they had only two daughters which allowed them to have more children.
About a year later, Chu’s mother conceived again, and nine months after, she gave birth to a boy.
That was Chu Xi.
After that, they never took any birth control measures, but Chu’s mother never got pregnant again.
"...Are you insane?!" Zhou Yiran’s face paled with disbelief and fear as she looked at Chu’s father and mother, instinctively stepping back, "You... you’re murderers! They say even tigers don’t eat their young, yet you killed your own child for these feudal superstitions! All for a son!"
Chu’s mother sobbed softly, too ashamed to refute her daughter-in-law.
Chu’s father, however, seemed to be infuriated by embarrassment; he turned his head and glared at Zhou Yiran, "If we hadn’t used this method, would we have our little Xi now? Would you be married to little Xi, living your days with him, having such a loving husband? What right do you have to speak like this?"
Zhou Yiran was speechless, choking back her words.
"What about me, then?" Chu Xi suddenly spoke up, his voice hoarse, "After doing such a thing, how am I supposed to face others? Did you ever ask if I wished to be born this way? Did I ever wish for you to use such a method to give me life? Have you ever thought that my life came at the expense of my third sister’s life?"
Chu’s father opened his mouth, his complexion darkening then turning pale, and eventually, he had nothing to say.
"Madam Song—" After hearing all this, Jiangli looked towards Wenru, "Do you still want me to help them?"
