Chapter 496: Chapter 496: The Ancestor Receives Guests
The next second, Jiangli set to work, rapidly completing a talisman, and had just put down the brush when a voice came from outside.
"Excuse me, is anyone there?"
It was a familiar voice.
Jiangli’s brow twitched and she stood up to go out, only to see Song Taishan supporting a woman as they entered, followed by another couple.
The couple wasn’t young, each looking around forty.
The woman Song Taishan was supporting bore a resemblance to him, suggesting her identity.
The group of people peered around as they walked in, looking around as if confirming there was someone there.
"Are you looking for me?" Jiangli stood in the corridor, speaking out loud.
"The Abbot is here?" Song Taishan caught sight of Jiangli and was quite surprised, "We just came in and didn’t see anyone; we thought there was no one in the temple."
Jiangli’s lips curved slightly, she was about to smile, but from the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the man beside her—specifically his back, and she slightly narrowed her eyes.
The next second, with her expression unchanged, Jiangli said, "If Captain Song had come a couple of days ago, there indeed would have been nobody here, I just happened to return today."
Song Taishan’s joy showed on his brow, "Then it’s our lucky day."
He walked over with the woman, introducing her to Jiangli, "Abbot, this is my wife, Wenru. A while ago, didn’t you tell us that we were finally going to have a child? We went to the hospital a few days ago to confirm and, indeed, my wife is pregnant. So, we thought of coming to thank the Abbot."
Jiangli’s gaze slid past the couple behind them, "It’s not that simple, is it?"
"This... Indeed, there’s another matter," Song Taishan glanced back, showing a rare trace of shyness on his dark red face.
"You’re the Abbot?" Wenru then spoke; she appeared gentle, but her words carried a forthrightness that cared little for minor details, "I’ve heard my husband mention the Abbot before, but I have never met you. We’re here to impose on you and trouble you again; I really feel bad for the inconvenience."
Jiangli raised an eyebrow, "Why do you say that?"
Wenru reached out, pulling the woman beside her closer, and said, "This is my good friend Zhou Yiran, we both live in the same residential area, and our homes are next to each other. This man here is her husband Chu Xi. We came over this time actually to ask for your help."
"Then let’s talk inside the house," Jiangli stepped aside, "You’re with child, and the sun is harsh; you can’t withstand it."
Upon finishing her words, she led the way into the side hall.
Song Taishan immediately agreed and began to assist Wenru inside.
Although Wenru was not showing her pregnancy, Song Taishan obviously treated her as if she were a national treasure, terrified of overlooking anything, always extremely cautious.
Wenru, on the other hand, clutched Song Taishan’s hand, eyeing Jiangli leading the way, and whispered, "The master of Jiaoyang Temple seems to be rather approachable, not as odd as you described, no?"
Song Taishan had told her that the master of Jiaoyang Temple was young, potentially a young genius, haughty in spirit, and acted in peculiar ways.
But having observed Jiangli, Wenru felt she seemed to be easy to get along with, not as strange as Song Taishan had described.
Song Taishan immediately corrected her in a low voice, "Wife, I never said that; I only mentioned the Abbot is haughty and might do things that are a bit beyond what normal people do; but she truly is capable, you’ll just have to be a bit more patient."
He had simply given Wenru and Chu Xi a preemptive warning, lest they couldn’t accept Jiangli’s personality, or the ways of Xuanmen.
Wenru pursed her lips but didn’t feel like Jiangli was particularly proud.
"Yiran..." As Song Taishan and Wenru were quietly chatting while walking, Chu Xi, who was trailing behind them, reached out to tug Zhou Yiran’s arm, "Can we really resolve this by seeking out a master? We’ve already been to the hospital and no issue was found; what good will it do coming here?"
