Chapter 462: The Identity of the Ancestor

Chapter 462: Chapter 462: The Identity of the Ancestor

Xia Xin waved his hand, explaining, "No, they’re all pitiful souls. Our ancestor and I just happened to come across them. Out of sympathy for the suffering they endured in life, we’d like to ask you to take them to be reincarnated."

Ancestor?

The Ghost Envoy suddenly felt this title sounded somewhat familiar.

It seemed as though he had heard it somewhere...

Suddenly, he recalled a rumor that had been circulating in Fengdu these past few days.

It was that the once Chaotic Demon King of Jiaoyang Temple, the Abbot Jiangli, had returned.

It was said that it was Judge Cui who spread the rumor.

However, they, the minor Ghost Envoys, had never seen him.

He also heard from colleagues that people in Fengdu referred to him as the ancestor as well.

Looking at Jiangli again...

The Ghost Envoy had a moment of enlightenment; his deadpan face immediately squeezed out a smile, and he bowed and nodded, asking, "Ancestor, are you the ancestor of Jiaoyang Temple?"

Jiangli acted as though he hadn’t heard, completely engrossed in his mobile game.

Xia Xin helped answer, "Yes, we are from Jiaoyang Temple. Do you recognize us, sir?"

"Recognize? More than just recognize!" the Ghost Envoy said with an obsequious smile, though his face appeared strangely stiff and awkward, "Everyone in Fengdu knows that the ancestor of Jiaoyang Temple has returned. I didn’t expect to meet you here. How have you been, sir?"

He wasn’t shy about warmly greeting Jiangli, even if it meant facing a cold shoulder.

Only then did Jiangli lift his eyelids, glancing at him, "Fine."

After uttering one word, he went back to playing his game with indifferent focus.

The Ghost Envoy hadn’t yet responded when Jiangli erupted with the essence of his country’s traditional opera.

"Oh my... are you silly? Why go in on this wave? Retreat! Retreat!"

Ghost Envoy: "..."

Xia Xin: "..."

A moment of dumfounded silence.

Xia Xin coughed softly, apologizing with a smile, "I’m sorry, mighty Ghost Envoy. Our ancestor just likes to play games a lot. Please don’t take it to heart."

"Oh..." the Ghost Envoy responded, bewildered, but who dared to pick a bone with Jiangli, "It’s quite normal for a person of your stature to be busy. These two are the ones you brought back, right?"

Xia Xin nodded.

The Ghost Envoy obsequiously said, "Then rest assured, I will definitely bring them back safely and send them properly into reincarnation!"

Xia Xin’s eyes brightened, and he bowed in gratitude, "On their behalf, I thank you, sir. We appreciate your trouble!"

"No, no, no, how could serving the sir be any trouble?" the Ghost Envoy replied very politely, "It’s my duty to do so."

Xia Xin couldn’t help but smile wryly, wondering who the real ’sir’ was here.

But, it seemed the Ghost Envoy was easy to communicate with.

After confirming the information was correct, Xia Xin then said to Liao Qianqian and Lin Yurong, "You can go with the Ghost Envoy, don’t worry."

Liao Qianqian and Lin Yurong exchanged glances.

Even though they had long known they would leave,

now that the time had come, they felt an inexplicable panic.

"Go ahead, don’t worry." Jiangli, who inexplicably had put down his phone, gave them a reassuring look, "Dust to dust, earth to earth, let the matters of the mortal realm go."

Liao Qianqian looked towards Jiangli and bowed, "I entrust my parents to the Abbot."

Jiangli said, "Rest assured."

Lin Yurong was silent for a moment, with no lingering attachments, and didn’t speak further.

With a word of reassurance from Jiangli, Liao Qianqian and Lin Yurong were at ease. They thanked Jiangli and Xia Xin respectively before following the Ghost Envoy to leave.

The Ghost Envoy took out the Soul-hooking Chain, hooked it around the two, and bowed to Jiangli with a beaming smile, "Sir, I shall take them back now."

Upon hearing this, Jiangli pulled out a few paper money bills from his pocket and handed them over, "Thanks for your hard work."

The Ghost Envoy’s eyes lit up immediately, joyfully accepting them, and exclaimed gratefully, "Thank you, Abbot, thank you, sir!"

After repeatedly bowing and thanking, he then led Lin Yurong and Liao Qianqian away.
