Chapter 294: Chapter 294: The Ancestor’s Punishment
Seeing Jiangli sitting upright there while they were all standing, the younger members of Qingyun Temple had rather unsightly expressions on their faces.
But the slap Jiangli had just delivered not only landed on the young Taoist’s face but also on the faces of all of them, and now everyone was too angry to speak out.
Jiangli sat down and brushed off the nonexistent dust from his body, as if he truly were an elder ready to reprimand his junior disciples.
The anger on the faces of the younger generation from Qingyun Temple grew even heavier.
By comparison, Daoist Ding Shan was quite composed. Seeing Jiangli sit down, he wasn’t angry but instead took the initiative to ask, "Young friend, would you explain what exactly today’s matter is all about?"
Upon hearing this, Jiangli gestured to Xia Xin with a hook of his finger, "Show the person to the Abbot, let him recognize the individual."
Xia Xin nodded, dragged Daoist Changmin forward a step, and pushed Daoist Changmin in front of everyone.
Jiangli asked, "I wonder if the Abbot of Qingyun Temple recognizes this person?"
Daoist Ding Shan, of course, recognized him, "This is my disciple Changmin; has my junior perhaps inadvertently offended you? If that’s so, I apologize on his behalf."
"Inadvertently offended?" Jiangli chuckled, "That’s putting it rather seriously. This wasn’t an inadvertent offense, it was clearly a deliberate set-up."
Hearing her suddenly change tack, Daoist Ding Shan furrowed his brows, "What do you mean by that?"
Jiangli said, "Since it was your disciple who did it, let him speak for himself."
As she spoke, she kicked Daoist Changmin’s leg meaningfully.
"You remember what you did before, don’t you? I hope you’ll tell the truth."
Hearing this, Daoist Changmin trembled violently and hardly dared to look up at Daoist Ding Shan.
Seeing this, Daoist Ding Shan had his suspicions and asked sternly, "Changmin, what exactly have you done? Confess!"
Daoist Changmin shrank his neck and said in a very small voice, "I... I was momentarily bewitched..."
"Louder," Jiangli suddenly interrupted, her voice sharp, "Is your voice so quiet because you haven’t eaten enough? Should I feed you a talisman to perk you up?"
At that suggestion, Daoist Changmin shook his head in panic, hurriedly saying, "Yes, it’s my fault, everything is my fault..."
He immediately confessed everything he had done without holding anything back, for fear that Jiangli would indeed strike him again.
He had already been crippled in both legs and truly did not want his hands or other parts to be crippled too.
As Daoist Changmin’s words came out, one by one, the faces of the Taoists and pilgrims from Qingyun Temple turned all shades of colors.
Everyone had thought that Jiangli was deliberately causing trouble.
No one had expected that the truth of the matter would turn out to be this.
Noticing the change in their expressions, Jiangli asked, "Does the Abbot have anything else he wants to argue on his behalf now?"
"Indeed, it was our disciple who acted inappropriately. We of Qingyun Temple will take full responsibility for the wrongdoing," the Abbot replied.
With Daoist Changmin admitting it himself, what more could Daoist Ding Shan argue?
He readily said, "It is our Qingyun Temple who has wronged Jiaoyang Temple. We admit our fault. If we have caused any loss to Jiaoyang Temple today, our Qingyun Temple is willing to compensate multifold and have Changmin apologize to you. What do you say?"
Jiangli chuckled again, "Do you think I lack your money? As for his apology, if I merely wanted an apology, would I need you to speak up?"
Daoist Ding Shan didn’t expect Jiangli to be so difficult and frowned as he said, "Then how would you like to settle this matter?"
"My demand is very simple; I already stated it earlier. I want to clean house," Jiangli’s voice deepened slightly, "If you want to gloss over today’s incident, that’s also fine. I’ll give you two options: either close down Qingyun Temple for one year or get out of F City, to a place where I can’t see you. Choose one of the two options; the choice is yours."
