Chapter 236: Chapter 236: The Gluttonous Ancestor
Fu Shiyan didn’t understand why Jiangli was angry before, but to please her, he specifically instructed the waiter to pick some of the more expensive dishes to bring over.
He also asked about Jiangli’s preferences.
Although there were only six people, they ended up ordering more than twenty dishes.
The table was full to the brim, almost unable to accommodate everything.
When so many dishes were served, Xia Xin secretly clicked his tongue while thinking that this... was a bit wasteful, right?
But looking at the others at the table, it seemed like no one cared about the so-called extravagance and waste, so Xia Xin didn’t say anything.
After all, it wasn’t appropriate to nitpick when someone else was treating.
However...
The outcome was beyond Xia Xin’s expectations.
He had assumed many of the dishes would be left over.
Fu Shiyan and the others didn’t seem like they could eat much.
But he had overlooked Jiangli...
He hadn’t anticipated the ancestor being such a big eater.
Nearly a third of the dishes on the table ended up in the ancestor’s stomach.
She ate like a glutton, seemingly unaware of what it meant to be full, continuously eating.
Her eating manners weren’t particularly elegant, but they were adorable, like a little guinea pig.
Everyone found it a bit amusing to watch.
However, seeing her eat non-stop and almost finish all the dishes on the table, the chopsticks in Wen Zishu’s hand clattered onto the tabletop.
He didn’t bother picking them up, and instead asked in astonishment, "Abbot... Aren’t you getting too full?"
Jiangli was in the middle of eating a braised pork knuckle, which Fu Shiyan had placed entirely in her bowl.
Her mouth was smeared with sauce, and she looked up at Wen Zishu bewildered and innocently upon hearing his words.
"What’s there to be full about?"
Wen Zishu: "..."
Abbot, do you not realize how much you’ve eaten?
"Eat as much as you like, drink some water, don’t choke," Fu Shiyan considerately handed her a cup of water.
Jiangli took it and gulped down a mouthful, feeling much better. She thanked Fu Shiyan.
Watching Fu Shiyan still trying to gain favor at this point, Wen Zishu silently gave him a thumbs-up.
And then looking at Jiangli again...
It wasn’t until the dishes on the table were all finished that she stopped.
Her expression unchanged, showing no signs of being stuffed at all.
Wen Zishu nudged Duan Jianchuan beside him and whispered, "Abbot can really eat... Won’t she get sick from overeating?"
Duan Jianchuan replied calmly, "Just look at her complexion, nothing’s wrong."
Wen Zishu marveled, "Never thought the Abbot was a big eater."
Shang Junxiao joined in their conversation, "I think the Abbot’s quite cute like this."
Wen Zishu said, "Cute, yes, but I’m afraid she’ll eat herself sick."
Duan Jianchuan glanced at him, "If Shiyan isn’t worried, what are you afraid of?"
Wen Zishu: "...Right."
Shang Junxiao was puzzled, "Why should Shiyan be afraid of the Abbot eating too much?"
Duan Jianchuan’s eyebrows raised slightly.
Wen Zishu pushed Shang Junxiao’s head away, speaking as if it was all too familiar, "Never mind, this silly kid is still clueless."
Duan Jianchuan looked away.
Shang Junxiao: "..."
There was a sense of being looked down upon.
During the meal, although Jiangli ate a lot and the start wasn’t smooth, overall, it was a joyous occasion for both guest and host.
In the end, Jiangli enjoyed the meal immensely. She began to view Fu Shiyan’s generosity and thoughtfulness in a new light and struck his name off her blacklist for the room snatching incident.
Fair to say, Fu Shiyan was a friend worth keeping.
As the group left the private restaurant, Jiangli reflected on how much she had eaten at Fu Shiyan’s expense and felt somewhat embarrassed.
She took out an amulet and handed it to Fu Shiyan, "Consider it a thank you for the meal."
