Chapter 194: The Bordering Village (End) Before The Departure
The sun’s radiant display was a masterpiece in the making. Its golden hues drenched the sky with a warmth that enveloped everything it touched. Aisha watched as the sun slowly descended towards the horizon, casting its last rays of light onto the world below. The wind danced around her, its playful rustling of leaves providing a serene symphony that accompanied the setting sun’s descent.
Seated on a nearby bench, Aisha watched the sky’s vibrant colors with a heavy heart. She wasn’t wearing her armor, which meant she wasn’t in a place visible to the other villagers. Instead, she rested her body on the bench, allowing her to feel the warmth of the sun’s rays on her skin and the presence of her beloved, Lyan.
Aisha closed her eyes, willing herself to forget everything and just enjoy this moment. She wished it could last forever, but deep down, she knew that wasn’t possible. The warmth she felt wouldn’t stay for long, and the thought made her sad. Her face contorted in pain, and she let out a hoarse voice, "So you’re going away tomorrow."
Aisha clutched onto Lyan’s clothes, not wanting him to leave. It was as if she were begging him to stay. She knew it was pointless, and he had to leave, but she couldn’t help herself. The thought of him leaving made her heart ache, and she couldn’t bear the thought of being apart from him.
Lyan’s expression softened as he took Aisha’s hand and gently squeezed it. "I have to go, but I’ll be back soon. I promise," he reassured her.
Aisha’s eyes were still closed, but she could feel the warmth of Lyan’s hand in hers, and the sound of his voice was a balm to her soul. She leaned into him, drawing comfort from his embrace.
"In my stead, this little one. Ravena, will take my place and accompany you," Lyan uttered with a smile as a small wolf pup hopped to Aisha’s lap. Looking at the brown fur, and the green eyes that gazes at her like she’s her mother triggered her maternal instincts.
"Fufufu. You’re right..." Aisha let out a small laugh as she strokes the small wolf as she remember how surprised she was yesterday when she knew about Lyan’s identity as a summoner and how this small wolf pup is actually their small child born of their love.
When Lyan return to the guest house, she searched for the book of monsters and magic beasts stored at her father’s room, and found the species that fits perfectly to this little pup’s description.
[Fenris
Fenris is a magical creature that resembles a wolf, but is much larger and more powerful than any ordinary wolf. Its fur is shaggy and brown, with streaks of black running through it. Its eyes are a piercing green, and its teeth and claws are razor-sharp. Fenris has a fierce and loyal nature, and will stop at nothing to protect its master.
In addition to its physical prowess, Fenris also possesses magical abilities. It can sense danger from far away and has the ability to teleport to its master’s side in an instant. Fenris is also able to generate an aura of protection around its master, shielding them from harm.
Fenris is a creature of legend and is said to be nearly invincible in battle. It is feared by many, but revered by those who have earned its loyalty. The summoning of Fenris is a powerful display of magic and a sign of great love and devotion between a man and a woman.]
"A powerful display of magic and a sign of great love and devotion between a man and a woman... Fufufu..." Aisha giggled and snuggled her face towards Lyan’s chest as she remembered the line from the book.
"Fine. But remember that you need to visit me and this child often, you know?" (Aisha)
"Of course. I promise," (Lyan)
They sat in silence, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The sky’s vibrant colors slowly faded, replaced by the stars’ glittering light. Aisha and Lyan stayed there for a while longer, holding each other, taking comfort in each other’s presence, and cherishing this moment that they knew wouldn’t last forever.
***********************************
As Lyan closed the door to the guest room, the sound echoed loudly in the silence of the hallway. He let out a sigh of relief, he had persuaded Aisha and made her believe that he will return, and with that, he had obtained everything, or even more than what he intended in the first place.
The first time Lyan had arrived in the village, he had been determined to gather information about the empire, make some connections, find a friendly place to rest, and a place for him to vent his pent-up desires. But he had not expected to gain so much more. The books and parts of magical beasts and monsters he had shown to the villagers had reaped him numerous benefits. These creatures could only be found in the deathly forest and the surrounding areas of the city of Arkansas, far from the empire.
Lyan knew that if he sold them in a city or even at the capital, he could fetch high prices, but he didn’t know anyone there, and he might be targeted instead. It would be better to sell some of them in this village first, let the villagers resell them to the cities, and have his name known beforehand to gain some allies.
(Aisha was also rejoiced when I accepted the first offer they made. Well, giving them those things would benefit the village and her as well, so it’s a good thing)
All the former slaves, including Wilhelmina, Solia, and the others, had gathered inside. Lyan saw the resolute look on Aisha’s face, and he could sense the noble and charismatic presence from her, even if she was a fallen marquis’s daughter.
"I guess all of you already have your answer," Lyan said, his voice breaking the silence.
"Yes," Aisha replied, nodding her head.
"So the decision is?" Lyan asked, glancing at Wilhelmina, Solia, and the others.
"We want to go to the city of Arkansas," Wilhelmina said, her voice firm and unyielding.
Lyan raised his eyebrows. "The city of Arkansas? What’s the reason?"
"It’s because the city of Arkansas is the place where a group with fighting skills like us could get our independence easily. I know it may seem like a bad idea for a group of women and little girls, but all of us have been well-trained, and we have decided to go to the same destination," Wilhelmina said, determination shining in her eyes.
Lyan listened to her words carefully, considering her request. "I understand that you all have reached a consensus. So?"
"We don’t want to burden you. If you think that we might be a burden, we’re fine if you left us. It’s too unreasonable-" Wilhelmina’s voice trailed off as she saw Lyan raise his hand to stop her.
"No need to go to that stuff. I’ll escort you, but we’re going to the capital of the Redania before we return to the city of Arkansas. I have business there as well. I’m not bothered, so feel free to tag along," Lyan replied indifferently.
"Why? When we’re with you, you handled our food, our lodgings, and all of our other expenses. Why are you doing all of this?" Solia asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
Lyan let out a chuckle as he remembered a certain person and the words he had adopted as one of his principles. "When saving someone or helping somone, don’t do it half-heartedly. A certain person told me those words before, you see, and I owe that person a lot. So I’m adopting his principles with me to let him live on," Lyan uttered as his eyes went sentimental for a moment.
"Are you sure it’s fine?" Wilhelmina asked hesitantly.
Lyan nodded, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips. "I wouldn’t offer if I wasn’t sure. And besides, I have some business in the capital as well."
Solia’s eyes widened. "You’re going to the capital? What kind of business do you have there?"
Lyan hesitated for a moment before answering. "I have some matters to attend to regarding the Empire. I’m hoping to gain some information and perhaps make some connections."
The former slaves exchanged curious glances, but none of them pushed the matter further.
"Thank you, Lyan," Aisha spoke up, her voice soft and sincere. "We appreciate everything you’ve done for us."
Lyan waved a hand dismissively. "It’s nothing. Just don’t slow me down."
