Chapter 72: Counter Attack
Chapter 72: Counter Attack
The Thunder Fae also nodded, looking at her sisters who were watching. Just as she said, none of them had good expressions and were close to bursting out with rage. They also thought the human was most likely dead with that level of destructive attack.
All of them clenched their fists, but Thailyn was strangely the calmest one; no one knew why.
On the sidelines, the Shadow Snake was fighting against the water Fae who had various methods to hold off the snake while the Fae with support-type abilities were constantly boosting the water Fae with her abilities.
Sometimes she would cast a weakening spell on the Snake. Sometimes she would hinder its vision, Sometimes she would have mental attacks or partial illusions. But the snake fought on without defending in the slightest with the sole objective of killing its enemies and reaching its master to save him.
Though it was not seeing any success in its attempt since the water Fae was not clashing with the snake head-on, she was fighting a long-range battle and manipulating the terrain and environment to its advantage.
While the supporter was constantly annoying the snake with small tricks here and there.
The battle was amid a stalemate. But the Snake could feel it, the other ones were coming in large numbers. Once they come, the stalemate shall be broken.
The 30 Lesser Fae had been turned into ghostbound by Valtar the moment the First Elder fell. But he commanded the system to do it in a way that doesn’t draw any attention.
Then Shailyn attacked and Valtar ordered them to move.
The 5 Fae hovering in the sky also noticed this detail and their expression could not help but widen in surprise. After all, none of them noticed this until a few moments ago.
They hastily regained their composure and smirked internally, they really were having a lot of fun until now. Since the human prepared such a trick why would they foil it.
Out of nowhere 30 lesser fae rushed onto the battlefield, the 4 Fae were caught off-guard by the sudden turn of events, and some of the attacks of the lesser ones managed to hit them since they were too focused on their battles. This gave a chance to the Shadow Snake as it was waiting for this exact opportunity all this time.
It immediately used one of its abilities which it did not use all this time just to use it in the most optimal moment that would produce the best result. The snake opened its jaws largely and spit out large amounts of viscous green acid that could corrode everything.
The attack was aimed at the Fae who was supporting everything from the sidelines. Ironically, most of the lesser ones also swarmed that exact Fae with attacks. The fae hastily tried to put up a barrier, even the Water fae rushed at her to help but it was a tad too late.
She was the weakest one among all the Fae since her role was that of a support type, without anyone to use her support type abilities on, she was a lamb waiting to be slaughtered. But her unique abilities were also the reason she was valued and adored by all the High Fae.
Unfortunately, this was the end of her road. Before her barrier could fully take effect to save her, the acid landed wide open on her body and it did its work just as it was supposed to.
A terrifying and beastly scream could be heard throughout the forest.
Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhaaahhhhhahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The acid was melting down her body alive it was precisely because she was a being on the level of a Pathwalker that her agony was even greater as it took the acid a few minutes to melt her down into a mixture of melted flesh.
Her cries attracted the attention of everyone, yet none could come to help her, especially the water Fae had a twisted grimace plastered on her face as her entire being was overflowing with boundless rage.
She looked at the Shadow Snake with immense hatred. As for Shailyn and the thunder Fae, they were being continuously disturbed by the ghostbounds of lesser Fae, they were already on the blood boost which propelled all of them into the stage of a pathwalker.
Unfortunately, the ghosts possessing their bodies are unable to use the innate boost mode that lesser Fae used beforehand in their fight against the dark elves. The reason behind that is that it takes life force to activate that mode and the dead do not have life force.
The ghosts simply keep their bodies alive which in total makes them beings who walk on a tightrope of something in between life and death. As a result of the lesser ones continuously attacking Shailyn and the Thunder Fae, their focus on keeping up the wind tornado with thunder strikes had diminished which gave Valtar a breath of opportunity.
By now darkness had covered the lower part of his body, from his waist to beneath. He was lying facing the sky. The interval between the thunderstrikes had increased greatly.
The power behind the wind blades also diminished.
Valtar with all his will made the darkness move even faster urging it to cover his entire body. Because of the interference outside, slowly but surely he was getting close, close to escape. Every part of his body that was covered by the darkness would not be affected by the thunderstrikes anymore.
Eventually, in just minutes Valtar’s entire body was covered by a thick layer of darkness, even his eyes, mouth, and entire head were covered. But it did not obstruct his vision. His eyes opened wide. He was furious, utterly furious. But first, he had to heal his body.
He immediately activated the healing aspect of his ’Ghost summoner’ skill that healed him by absorbing blood from the bodies of the ghostbounds. 2 of the lesser Fae outside immediately withered as if they were pieces of wood kept in bright sunlight for many days.
Their bodies moments after turned into dust and simply vanished in the breeze of the wind.
This particular detail caught the eye of some of the observant ones but most of them were oblivious. Especially the 3 Fae who were fighting like rabid dogs, at this point the thunder Fae had no choice but to join the fight against the lesser ones due to the sheer intensity of their attacks.
She continued to use thunder blasts one after another without a single moment of break. She was still in her Empowerment mode which gave considerable boost and control over her innate element. However, her time limit was nearing, she was slowly getting weaker.
Her mental exhaustion was also taking effect. It was the same case for the other 2 Fae.
The Water Fae was getting hit more and more by the snakes attacks, she was unable to manipulate the terrain as great as before. Meanwhile, the lesser ones were constantly harassing her.
The thunder Fae was the one to hold off most of the ghostbounds. She also had to make sure not to unleash an attack that was too destructive because that could disrupt the workings of her 2 sisters.
Shailyn still had to focus all her energy completely on the tornado. She could still feel the human to be alive which frustrated her to no end because this plan was entirely made on the basis that the human would have long been dead by now.
It seems lady luck is largely against her favor. Suddenly a few of the ghostbounds managed to slip out of the control of the Thunder Fae, who aimed their weapons at Shailyn. She was not paying attention to it either, how could she? When she needed to maintain her full attention on keeping the tornado ongoing and constantly feed it energy as well.
Then the attacks of the ghostbounds landed on her, and 2 ghostbounds threw their weapons at Shailyn with full power. She instantly noticed it as soon as it entered her perception. But it was too late, if she dodged now the wind tornado would dissipate. If she were to block it, the same would happen as her attention would be diverted.
She gritted her teeth and had no choice but to let weapons pierce her back. She could move her body at an angle that they would not hit her vital organs or pierce too deep into her.
Things played out the exact way she intended. The weapons did pierce her body as she let out a muffled groan in sheer pain.
Valtar like a tiger waiting to pounce on its prey was waiting for that exact moment. That moment when the weapons pierced her body, he was ready with darkness covering his entire body and 2 sharp swords in both his hands.
At that moment, Shailyn without even realizing loosened the control of her tornado and a window of escape appeared in front of Valtar. Using his Dark step to maximum limit, which not only gave him deadly maneuverability but also suppressed his presence to a large degree that managed to fool the Fae but she would not be oblivious to his presence for much longer.
He had to act now.
