Chapter 53: Wolf Army vs Ghostbounds
Chapter 53: Wolf Army vs Ghostbounds
In the lands covered by shadows, a powerful silhouette was running at a steadfast speed incomparable to anyone. The being had deep blue eyes, black hair, a handsome face, and a powerful body filled with raw power, waiting to be released.
The being was wearing the clothes of the Dark Elven Tribe Leader. He had two earrings on both of his ears, which glistened slightly in the lightless grounds of shadow.
Behind that being followed 38 dark elves swiftly and silently. Their faces were devoid of emotion with no movement, they looked dead, and their eyes had strange blood patterns in them which only served to make them look more and more ominous.
After an unknown amount of time and reaching his desired place, he was stopped. In front of him was the main den of Shadow Wolves, these creatures were once a nightmare for the now-extinct Eastern tribe. Yet now when the being looked at it, he only felt disdain and thought,
’There are only 3 first stage awakened wolves in the den and 50 more normal wolves. Considering my current stage those low-level cores won’t help anymore.’
This being was naturally Valtar, the man who killed Zhao and single-handedly slaughtered all the Dark Elves and killed their tribe leader. He wanted to test out something since the shadow cores of the awakened beasts now should be useless to him, and if he conquered this part of the forest, he should be getting his hands on the shadow concept anyway. ’So, let’s see if these guys can still absorb cores and get stronger.’ thought Valtar.
He ordered one of the ghostbounds on the 2nd stage to go and kill all the wolves in the den. The ghostbound obeyed silently and simply dashed towards the den of the wolves right from the front without hiding its presence. Valtar thought for a moment, ’It seems the intelligence of the ghostbounds has increased slightly after acquiring the concept of darkness.’
Sensing the approach of a powerful enemy, the wolves in the front howled loudly, alerting all the wolves in the den. The ghostbound released its killing intent and used its mastery over darkness to cover its body in a thin layer of darkness.
Just as it released its killing intent all the unawakened wolves cowered in fear and began to cry and whimper. From the inside of the den, the howls of the 3 awakened beasts sounded loudly. Sensing the power of the enemy they immediately came out to confront him.
However, even though they were apprehensive of the enemy, their animal instincts were screaming at them to run away. But as leaders, they simply could not abandon their den and underlings just like that. So, without any fanfare, all 3 attacked immediately using the shadow movement that all the awakened creatures of the shadows inherently possessed.
The Ghostbound also used its dark step though it was far from efficient in this place which mostly had shadows, not the darkness. But was of great use regardless.
After 5 minutes or so all the shadow wolves have been slaughtered by the ghostbound.
The 3 first-stage beasts were killed within the first 3 minutes then it took him another 2 minutes to finish off the 50 unawakened beasts since they were running around too much. It slowly carved out the 3 cores from the 3 awakened beasts. Then using the dark step appeared in front of Valtar and handed over the 3 cores.
Valtar looked at the 3 shadow cores gave them back to the ghostbound and commanded it to absorb the cores. It remained motionless as it looked at him wordlessly. Valtar seemed to think it did not understand his command as in the next moments it simply swallowed the cores.
Valtar watched dumbfoundedly, what the hell? A few moments passed as Valtar looked at it intensely yet nothing seemed to have changed. Just as he was about to sigh in disappointment the system notification sounded in his mind.
[The ghostbound has gained some stats.] Valtar smiled seeing the notification and nodded in slight satisfaction. ’At least it wasn’t a waste and it means they can indeed become stronger.’
After 5 minutes or so....
Noticing something abnormal, Valtar looked in a certain direction on his left. Somethings coming, no not something but many beasts were rushing here together. It was probably because of the last howl that the strongest wolf did before it was killed. It alerted all the wolf’s dens nearby.
Well, good for me, I don’t have to go searching around everywhere for all the beasts.
He did not have to wait long, only after 3-4 minutes he could see so many wolves rushing towards them like a large hoard. According to his estimations, there should be more than 300 wolves and there was actually 1 Alpha shadow wolf at the stage of Pathwalker. Its dark grey eyes pierced through all that distance of more than 200 meters and met Valtar’s deep blue eyes. A beast at that stage was quite intelligent. Both beings at the stage of Pathwalker understood each other’s intent to kill.
Valtar smiled, ’Did the leader of all the wolves come with all the wolves of shadow ground.’
’Good riddance let’s get rid of them all at once.’ he mused internally.
After approximately 1 minute, both leaders stood only 50 meters away from each other. He smiled at the wolf, the wolf glared viciously at the human in front of him, It was dead set on killing the human which dared to invade its land out of nowhere. Though it felt a sense of danger from the human, it was very arrogant. It did not believe the unassuming and small human could ever match against its beastly and powerful body. Of course just because it was dead set on killing the human and its minions, it dared not to step forward and face the human carelessly. After all, it did not achieve its current status with brute strength alone.
Valtar raised his hands, all the ghostbounds took out their weapons immediately. The darkness all around them stirred as every single bit of it latched onto the ghostbounds.
There were many third-stage beasts and 2nd stage beasts within the large wolf horde. But he was too lazy to count and pay attention, he would let his minions take care of it.
Even the extremely large and vicious wolf leader who was on the same stage as him only looked like a puppy at best. After facing someone with such overwhelming battle prowess as Tribe Leader Hansel. A beast like that only looked like a joke to him now.
He would prefer if his minions would be enough to take care of them all. Though the core of that wolf leader should be helpful to him, should he eat it? He was in a bit of a dilemma about that. The battle hadn’t even started yet he was already thinking about what he should do with the core of the leader.
All of these thoughts only took Valtar a few seconds to think, he had his hands upward and then he simply waved his hand forward. The wolf also howled towards the dark sky signaling all its minions to attack at once while it remained standing to observe the situation.
Rumble!!!
Rumble!!!
The possessed dark elves also dashed forward at their master’s command, the ground itself rumbled from the movement of so many powerful beings at once. 38 ghostbounds versus 200 shadow wolves and most of them were awakened as well, despite the great disparity in numbers Valtar remained unperturbed, If the terrifying battle prowess of every single Dark elves weren’t enough to slaughter all these mindless dogs with ease, then he might as well kill himself with no hope in being able to face the Fae folks who were much-much more dangerous.
Awooooooo—awoooooo—awoooooo...
All the wolves howled continuously as they ran forward. They could definitely feel the overwhelming power of their enemies, their instincts were not simply for show after all. But their leader’s orders were absolute. Wolfs were a strict hierarchical race in which the leader’s orders were absolute, disobeying them meant instant death.
So, they pushed forward disregarding all their fear. The ghostbounds also ran at full speed, they were mindless beings following orders anyway, so it did not matter to them what enemy was in front or by how much they were outnumbered. They were the perfect killing machines.
Grrroooaaarrr—awoooooo—grrrrr!
Slash—clang—shreeeek!
The moment both parties clashed, the constant sounds of swords clashing could be heard. Countless swords pierced through the tough flesh of the wolves. It was not a mere frontal assault by the ghostbounds either. They were deadly assassins in essence.
They used their dark element to full advantage and confused the senses of the wolves. Some appeared right in the middle of the wolves, some from beneath, some from behind.
In barely one minute of the first clash, more than 40 wolves were already dead or unable to fight. Valtar watched the battle with an indifferent expression that was hard to read.
He was thinking about the ghost of Hansel should he just let it possess the Alpha wolf?
He was pretty sure the possession would not fail either.
