Chapter 47: Lost Love(1)

Chapter 47: Lost Love(1)

His memories ended there and his vision of the past memories was abruptly cut off, Suddenly he opened his eyes in his own body as he started gasping for breath. Then his expression became solemn. There were too many shocking things in the memory, which were bad news for him.

Even the skill of ’Suppressed Emotion’ could not recede his shock from the things he had witnessed and the severe implications of it.

First of all, both the First Elder and The Tribe Leader were once humans. Then there was Zhao himself who had once disappeared. Except for some small incongruities, the memory does not conflict with the story Fae Queen told me. She also briefly mentioned how Zhao had two children. So, her story was not a lie, most likely.

What an irony, who knew one of the children of Old Zhao was here all along and turned into another race? As for his daughter, it’s unknown. Father and son would have eventually clashed if not for the fact that I killed Zhao.

Then there’s the existence of that terrifying titan, Valtar himself involuntarily shivered thinking about that ominous being. While that Titan was probably much lower in level compared to the 3 beings he saw fighting when he first awoke in this body.

For a moment he was glad that he witnessed such a battle of world-shaking magnitude, if not he would have lost most of his willpower just thinking about escaping from such a being.

He shook his head slightly and thought about the crux of the matter. So, this entire forest is most likely some kind of experiment of that powerful Titan? But for what? But why go so far? Placing so many rules and complications? Then what is the so-called Legacy of this forest?

Can anyone truly escape this place or would they end up in an even worse state at the hands of that being? He had no answer and it would be foolish for him to think that he could predict the thoughts of such a mysterious and ominous being, not to mention he did not even know much about this world itself.

Then there was another matter even more confusing, from all the memories he obtained from the Wraithbounds, Valtar learned that all the third-stage Elder and the Tribe leader were all more than 500 years old. But it was Zhao who disappeared first and should have been in the forest before the Elves. Instead, It was Zhao’s children and other Villagers who came here 470 years Earlier than Zhao? What’s with this immense discrepancy in time?

Perhaps even the Fae queen could be unaware of the fact that Hansel was actually Zhao’s son and all the Dark Elves were once Human. Here I was thinking Dyona would be the biggest obstacle. She could still be, who knows?

He let out a tired sigh as he rubbed his forehead with a headache. What a shitty situation.

The skill ’Suppressed Emotion’ worked wonders at this moment as it quickly helped him calm down. His objective still hadn’t changed regardless of how deep or scary the chasm may seem. If not, what kind of shitty mc would he be to not even survive the First Minor Arc of the story. Wouldn’t his author die of hunger and poverty?

The system urgently notified him, [Warning! The host is advised not to purposefully raise a death flag.]

Valtar’s eyebrow twitched and he forgot what he was talking about in the next moments. "Now let’s get that Key of Eternal Dark Fire." he stated. He got up from his seat and started walking, after standing in front of a certain section of the wall, pressed his hands in a certain position of the Wall.

A creaking and mechanical sound was heard, and a doorway opened. He waited for a moment, then entered. While everywhere else now was illuminated by light. This particular room seems to be still filled with darkness. Was it generated by the Dark Fire?

Unlike before when he was blind in the True Darkness. He could see clearly now. It was similar to a night vision of sorts. It was truly a wonderful feeling to be able to see as clear as day despite being in such intense Darkness. After walking for continuously 2 more minutes in the narrow corridor, he saw it.

This fire seems to radiate Darkness itself. Just like how a fire radiates light in the darkness of the night. This thing was the opposite in that sense, In broad daylight if this were to be brought out it should radiate the Darkness. What a bizarre and unreal scene would that be! Wouldn’t it?

Because through his dark vision, the fire could be seen as pitch black but there were some occasional sparks of light blue in it. In total the thing simply looked like a medieval wooden torch and in that torch was the pitch black fire continuously burning and radiating darkness with occasional blue sparks in them.

After being dazed by it for a few moments, he stepped closer and closer. Perhaps detecting his presence it began to flicker in a different rhythm almost. Was it trying to communicate with him?

Regardless he did not stop his steps and simply put his hands on the medieval torches wooden handle.

"WHOOSH...WHOOSH.......WHOOSH................"

The fire abruptly grew bigger for no apparent reason, Valtar wanted to let go of it out of caution. But he realized that it didn’t seem to be hurting him, so he held onto it. The raging fire then removed itself from the wooden torch and lashed onto Valtar’s body.

His entire body started burning in the Dark Fire as he panicked and let go of it.

He cursed involuntarily, "What the Fuck? DAMN IT....."

Thankfully system came to his rescue.

[Congratulations! The host has obtained the Relic, Key of Dark Fire]

[Upon meeting certain conditions Host will be able to use it]

[Upon meeting the conditions Host will be notified]

The Dark Fire which seemed to have turned him into a black Human Torch suddenly disappeared inside of his body. Which left him dumbfounded for a moment. It was like only to have a panic attack just to realize it wasn’t a panic attack. More notifications assaulted him.

[Your Mastery over the concept of ’Darkness has increased’]

Seeing the first line he almost got excited but the next moment the system poured a bucket of cold water into his excitement. There’s also the fact that he can’t use the Relic unless certain conditions are met. At least it should say the needed conditions. Never mind, It’s time to see the Tribe Leader’s memories.

System obeyed [Showing the Inherited memory of the Tribe Leader Hansel.]

Just as before his vision turned black for a moment, The Wraithbounds were still protecting him. After a few seconds, his vision returned as he immersed himself in the memory.

A beautiful scenery of a night sky filled with 4 bright moons appeared in his vision. There were also bright stars in the sky creating a glittering path. This was naturally still within the Dark Elven tribes area and there was the heavy Darkness lingering. But because Hansel and all the other dark elves had the inherent ability to see through the Darkness they see things just as normal as if the heavy fog of darkness was not there in the first place.

A melodious voice filled with love rang out just beside him, "Why are you watching the starry sky so intently, Honey!" A small smile appeared on his face as Hansel looked at the woman he loved with all his heart more than anything in this world. His eyes looked slightly down and the bulged belly of the woman he loved could be seen, indicating the woman was pregnant and she was not too far away from delivery of the baby.

He replied in a gentle voice, "I was just thinking that the night our child is born it is as beautiful as tonight. It signifies good fortune after all."

She also replied sweetly, "Indeed, it does."

"Do you think it will be a boy or girl?" She asked her husband.

"A girl just as sweet as you." stated Hansel.

His wife only snorted and did not say anything, Hansel could see she was happy and shy from the praise. He really loved his wife with all his heart. If it was with her, he would not mind staying here forever trapped. He clenched his fists secretly and let out a defeated sigh. If his wife and children were happy with living here all their lives, if they could be happy, he would also be happy.

He held his wife’s hand tightly enjoying her warmth and company. That is all that mattered to him.

Time passed, and eventually, the time of his child’s birth came. In the underground hall of the Tribe, he was pacing back and forth while in a room just beside them, the female elves were helping with the baby’s birth. Hansel was anxious, too anxious.

The continued pained cries of his wife could be heard, his heart ached with each passing moment. He wanted to rush and comfort his wife but he could not. A regal and old voice sounded beside him calmly, "Calm yourself, Hansel, you’re wife is not so weak to be hurt by this."

"She’s strong enough that there is no chance of anything happening to her during childbirth, my friend." stated Zolthar.

Hansel looked at him for a moment and said in a mocking tone, "It is not like you have a wife or a child, how would you know?"

Zolthar almost wanted to spit out a mouthful of blood hearing the brutal comment of his friend, he coughed slightly and said, "You’ve been hearing too much nonsense about the humans. It’s normal for human women to die during childbirth since they are incredibly weak, but that’s not possible for us Dark Elves."
