Chapter 44: Khanarasa

Moments after getting stabbed with a sword at his back, without even realizing suddenly the world was upside down for Hansel, in his last moments he heard the words, "Hansel Khanarasa."

His shock was insurmountable and before he could get the chance to express it, His consciousness had faded to cinders. With a loud thud, his head rolled to the ground.

Blood started splattering like a reverse fountain. Everything was dyed in blood.

Valtar’s smile vanished as he tilted his head and looked into the sky with a slightly empty gaze. That’s right the most shocking information he had received was from a certain memory of the second elder, in that memory at a certain point First Elder had once spoken the full name of the Tribe Leader ’Hansel Khanarasa’, and Valtar frowned. But how? How can his last name be the same as that of Old Zhao?

What is the connection between the two of them?

Was Hansel perhaps a descendant of Zhao? However, that should not be possible since he was a Dark Elf while Zhao was a human. Not to mention he knew from the memories that Hansel was just as old as the First Elder or even Older. It was because Hansel became a pathwalker that his vigor was renewed and his lifespan increased by a large margin. Maybe it’s the other way around, Zhao being someone from the same family line.

He could not help but look towards another direction in the sky and mutter to himself, "What an insidious forest, the more you delve into its secrets the more secrets you find from it."

He let out a tired sigh as he looked towards the headless corpse of Hansel, it was time to reap the rewards of his successful scheme. He stepped forward into the pool of blood of his now-dead enemy in measured steps. He bent down slightly and with his sword he carved out the dark stone from the area of Hansel’s chest.

He had reactivated his sense of touch and taste after killing Hansel. So, using his sensory vision sound, and smell, he could discern the shape of a small thumb-sized uneven rock in his hand. Without further ado, he put it in his mouth and swallowed it.

The first thing he could feel about it after putting it in his mouth is that it’s cold, Extremely cold. But not the kind of cold which will freeze you rather something different and deep, perhaps even malevolent to an extent. Then the moment he swallowed it.

All of the darkness that covered the entire area of the Elven tribe trembled, it stirred like a wave. From the outer area to the inside it began to rush towards Valtar, Inside the underground hall first the darkness wrapped itself around Valtar like a coat of armor, then began to be absorbed inside of his body slowly.

Valtar could feel something within changing and transforming. The absolute coldness of the darkness crept onto every part of his body, yet he did not resist and simply began to focus more on the state of being he was in currently.

He could instinctively feel his understanding and connection with the darkness increasing at an astonishing speed. He took in deep breath which caused more darkness to enter into his body through his mouth and nose. Even his eye color began alternating between blue and black.

Because of the intense rush of the darkness into Valtar’s body, a small tornado of darkness element was created around Valtar and he was at the eye of the storm, absorbing all of it.

At a certain point, the crown that was previously on Hansel’s head now lying on the floor started to glow, the crown started to hover and then float toward the center of the storm.

By this time, the outer area of the elves became clear of darkness, the light of the son after thousands of years fell into the grounds of this area. The trees, insects, and small animals that lived within the deep darkness all began to wither and die because of the sudden change in environmental conditions. In a few minutes the area which was filled with total darkness, now looked like a dry and dead land devoid of any life.

Now only within the underground remained the darkness, the crown had entered the eye of the small storm, and then gently it placed itself upon Valtar’s head. The next moment it transformed into 2 earrings and attached themselves onto his ears.

They were beautiful blue pearls but very small, not easily noticeable but they added more to Valtar’s charm. After a few minutes, all the darkness was absorbed into Valtar’s body.

He opened his eyes slowly, it almost felt like an eternity had passed till he last opened his eyes. A satisfied smile appeared on his face to see everything with his own eyes again and truly he felt blessed for a moment to have his vision back. Seeing the world through sensory vision is like seeing the world through a sonic radar, It’s like going from using your regular arm then suddenly using an amputated arm. It’s a subject of discomfort, not proficiency.

Being able to see so clearly now, he understood that all the darkness was perhaps absorbed by him. All of the possessed ones simply stood unmoving just as before. But the entire view had changed Everything looked barren and dry because of the sudden withdrawal of darkness. The coldness that permeated everything in this part of the land was slowly dissipating. He could even see the rays of subtle sunlight coming through the entrance illuminating everything.

For a moment he thought to himself, ’How ironic, when the darkness is the good side and light is evil, and I am that Evil.’

As if right on cue, the system flooded him with notifications,

He chuckled to himself, ’When it even receives rewards for being Evil as well.’

Right in the next moment, Valtar felt a great change in his entire being, It was not a physical change but rather something abstract almost as if he lost something, it was a very subtle feeling. Of course reading from the messages, he could tell that his emotions had been suppressed. His mind felt much calmer and somewhat indifferent. Unnecessary thoughts were not clouding his mind.

His ability to focus on long and short-term objective had gained an enormous boost. It seems his madness has been contained. For a moment he was worried about the repercussions of the skill, after all every good thing has an obvious downside to it.

An emotionally incapable person may not be able to see things or be capable of doing things that an emotional person can. He also believed if the tribe leader did not have the emotional seal on him from the beginning he might not have been able to win in the end.

It was only because Hansel was not used to his emotions that suddenly became a cause of his downfall. Thankfully, to his delight, the system explained to him further details of the skill.
