Chapter 41: Fallacy of the weak
Chapter 41: Fallacy of the weak
After 8 more dark elves joined the fight against First Elder Zolthar, adding to the previous 28 he was facing, he alone was now facing 36 of them. Thankfully at the opportune moment, he used his darkness ability despite it being very taxing on his old body.
The name of the ability was Gloom Echo, it was an extremely powerful sonic-type attack that used the main component of Darkness to stun the minds of his enemies for a few minutes. And it was very powerful as well.
Moments after he activated the Gloom Echo he hurriedly immobilized 10 of them but right after the rest of them broke free from the stunned state and started attacking him again like nothing happened.
First Elder sucked in a breath of cold air, and couldn’t help but curse, "FUCK!" The ability was always used by him as a last resort. It always worked extremely well. Even the Tribe Leader when caught off guard, will be stunned for at least 2 seconds. Of course, if he was vigilant he could simply deflect the attack as someone who has the greatest mastery over the Darkness.
This confirmed something that the First Elder was unwilling to accept and he did not want to think about it either. Whatever the human did to them has changed them permanently, if he’s not wrong there should be even less than a 10% probability to be able to turn them back to normal, "Damn it, Damn it.......DAMN ITTTTTTT........"
If not for that how could they break free from his Gloom Echo in just 2 seconds which only the Tribe Leader could do because of his own advantages and superior darkness affinity? Even then he could not simply cut off their heads, he would rather be hopeful than not. Because if they were indeed all gone, Even if they won what would be the point? Then it would be just him and The Tribe leader fighting all the Fae Folks.
He laughed in slight despair, "That would be nothing but delivering our lives to them on a silver platter. heh..."
"Please take our dog lives, since pretty much all the other elves were killed by the human."
"Though my stamina took a big hit because of using the Gloom Echo, at least the 10 I knocked down is staying down. So, I should be able to immobilize the other ones as well, just that I have to put in 2-3 times more effort."
He shook himself out of his reverie and focused on the fight itself after that.
Clang....
Bang......
boom.......
Swosh....
The constant clashing of swords and explosions caused by each clash made a spectacle of deadly dance that the First Elder was performing. The biggest Achilles heel of the elder in this fight was perhaps his dark steps and his efficient and deadly movement technique. The possessed ones could also use the race-specific movement technique of the Dark elves since the ghosts were in the body of the dark elves after all.
But the efficiency dropped by a great margin, they were unable to use it like the original ones, which is also understandable.
So, using that to his advantage he constantly immobilized one possessed after another despite his own battered and bruised state, he must go on, he must fight on and win, he must win no matter what.
On the other hand in the main fight of Valtar vs Hansel. Hansel after getting internally injured by the powerful punch of his enemy and having a big cut on his abdomen, he spat out a mouthful of blood and even his own emotions were working against him as if determined to drag him into the abyss no matter what.
He was not simply fighting a physical battle against the human, an even stronger mental battle was going on in his mind which was flooded with negative emotions. The very fact that he was able to hold on in his fight with Valtar despite the odds being so against him is praiseworthy. Unfortunately, there was no one to praise him, to support him, or to help him win against his adversary. The human was truly dangerous, far far more dangerous than he would like to admit. For the first time in his life, he came to know the taste of despair.
The mocking statement of the human rang in his ears again like a buzzing mosquito that you can’t kill and it keeps buzzing in your ears constantly. He was on the floor on his four limbs, he stood up with his sheer willpower. He stared at the human with cold and ruthless eyes. Ignoring his own emotions, and injuries.
Looking at the human’s sinister smile in front of him, he couldn’t help but think, is this person truly human? If so then in what sense is he human? The cunningness, ruthlessness, treacherousness, and the amount of danger the human put himself on and eventually turned the tables on them so badly, as well as the depth of his abilities.
What part of him looked like the harmless humans who were living in the Eastern tribes area without purpose or direction in life, without even the desire to escape the forest, most of them didn’t even care about the fact that for their entire lives, they were trapped within The Eastern Tribe’s area.
Looking at him he looked more like a Devil of the myths than a human. His cunningness might even be close to the Fae Folks themselves. The human after that did not give him any more opportunities to think more as he attacked again, using his moment of weakness.
Their swords clashed again, the relentless barrage of metallic clash. Sometimes sparks of fire ignited because of the intensity of the battle itself. Which illuminated the ever-shrouded dark underground hall for a moment. The fleeting gesture of the weak light was the symbol of justice at this moment.
Tribe Leader made the gesture of a downward vertical slash on Valtar’s head, then vanished again from his spot and attacked from behind. It was a feint, yet Valtar saw through it like it was nothing and spun like a torpedo and deflected his sword attack with his own. Valtar’s combat prowess was increasing by the minute, the more they fought, he was also getting good at predicting where his enemy would attack from. The feint attacks of his enemies were more and more recognizable in his eyes. As he could predict them and counterattack using that exact opportunity.
For a moment Valtar looked at the fight of the First Elder to see how his now newly promoted First-rate cannon fodders were performing, and he wasn’t disappointed actually. It’s only that the First Elder was exceptional in combat that is why he was able to hold on against so many enemies at once.
And at one point he used some strange sonic skill to stun all the possessed. Which probably worked only for a few seconds. Valtar thought back to his confrontation against Zhao, that time when he first fought against the possessed ones controlled by Zhao at that time, he was shocked to see how those cannon fodders would not stay down unless he literally cut their bodies down to the point they were unable to move anymore.
He smirked, seeing how the First Elder did not know about this fact. He silently commanded them to stay down and then at the right opportunity, kill him off. There’s no need to drag things out any further since everything is already in place.
In his own fight though, the Tribe Leader was getting pushed back constantly.
He was getting desperate as well. Now to provoke the Tribe Leader even further he threw his sword away and shouted, "Let’s have a good hand-to-hand fight."
Hansel’s expression flickered for a moment but he did not let go of his sword and continued to strike. Valtar used his silent steps masterfully mimicking the superior movement techniques of his enemy and dodged each strike carefully.
He was not surprised by the action that Hansel attacked him with a sword and did not throw it away to have a fist-to-fist fair fight. He sneered internally, ’Fairness and righteousness is only a subject of consideration when you have enough power to show such considerations and without harming you’re own interest.’
It is but a fallacy of the weak...
and then......
STOMP...
With a powerful kick on the ground, he did a backflip and avoided the sword slash that was aimed at his feet, with another spin in mid-air, he kicked the Tribe Leader in the face. They both stepped back making some distance.
A few of the Teeth of the tribe leader broke from taking on the brunt of the kick.
Which led to him spitting out his teeth. Valtar again ran forward and grabbed onto the hilt of the sword of his enemy stopping the incoming attack in the middle of the motion.
He simply snatched the sword and kicked him in the side of his abdomen as his enemy took a step back. Hansel gritted his teeth, seeing how weak he was that even with such silly tactics his enemy was able to snatch away his sword. It is but the greatest humiliation for him as a swordsman.
After a moment, the system silently notified Valtar about something.
He smirked while gazing deep into the eyes of the Tribe Leader and stated in an insidious tone, "Let’s see how well you fare when your closest and most trusted friend turns against you, ready to take your life."
