Lifespan Extraction: I Ascend As The Immortal Beast Tamer -
Chapter 66: I’ll Never Die
Chapter 66: I’ll Never Die
Sensing that the atmosphere in the Chariot was becoming more and more glum the longer Yu Quixan meandered in her thoughts, Zar went to open his mouth. But after coming up with nothing good to say, he returned to keeping quiet.
Noticing this internal struggle of his, Valley Master Yu revealed a kind smile—clearly, one that was difficult for her to make.
"There’s no need to comfort me, Zar," she said softly. "This is simply the way of the world. Whether from lack of Lifespan, natural causes, or... external reasons, people die. One day, I’ll die, and you will as well."
’No, you’re wrong, Master,’ Zar thought to himself. ’I’ll never die.’
[Lifespan: 55/2,840,000]
After getting hundreds of his Shadow Beasts into the Void Crossing Realm in various areas of the Blazing Sun Sect, Zar acquired the manpower he needed to soar back over a million Lifespan. Now he was well on his way to ten million, but planned to burn through a bit of it before that point came around.
More than a hundred years of Lifespan was invested into his Cultivation by him every week. That, along with his absurdly overpowered Divine Grade Spirit Roots, was what allowed his cultivation to ascend as it did, nearly breaking through 4 Minor Realms in a meager 9 years.
Did you know that it normally took hundreds, if not upwards of a thousand years, for a Void Crossing Realm Grandmaster to make a breakthrough??
Though Zar had to spend thousands of years of Lifespan to do the same, that was simulated cultivation time, which was thousands of times less effective than normal cultivation. Factors such as Atmospheric Qi Density, Qi Gather Arrays, High-rank Pills, and various other external aspects accelerated a Cultivator’s cultivation to a ridiculous degree.
It was only supreme geniuses and crazy people who attempted cultivation without the assistance of high Qi Density or other external factors!
Zar briefly thought of ways he could go about discreetly obtaining a high-grade Qi Gathering Array or Cave Abode. The ones Core Elder Ye Xuan and his Master gifted him were good and all, but that was only if his cultivation was as he showed it to be.
What they gave him was the very best one could get up until the Nascent Soul Realm, with Qi Density Multipliers of 20x+. But to him, a Void Crossing Realm Cultivator, that 20x got reduced to barely over 1.1x, because to fill up a basin, you need more than a droplet.
Core Formation Qi Gathering Arrays just couldn’t keep up with or even proceed to what he required...
That was when he recalled that unusual incident with his Genuine Primordial Soul—the one where both his cultivation increased when the him that was the Primordial Soul drank that Spiritual Tea Yu Yu gave him.
’Alby, Yuka, and the other Shadow Beasts can handle farming Lifespan well enough by eradicating all the evil in the world,’ Zar thought. ’This means I don’t necessarily need my Primordial Soul out hunting alongside them. Instead, I can direct it toward the most remote spot possible and place a Qi Gathering Array that’s of Grade 8 and above, suitable for the Void Crossing Realm. As long as it’s placed far enough away from me, it’ll be impossible for anyone to trace it back to me.’
While brainstorming different ways to do exactly that, Zar was once again reminded of the saddened expression that Yu Quixan was attempting to hide from him. This forced him to recall their previous discussion.
’She was right about one thing,’ he thought while making a hard-to-read expression. ’She’ll die... And it’s impossible to avoid that. For even if she finds ways to increase her cultivation talent, it’ll never be sufficient enough to live forever.’
Yu Quixan would perish before him. Just like everyone else around him.
And alone, he’d sit atop a mountain made of their ashes.
But so as to avoid becoming a true recluse, Zar refused to dwell on such a depressing matter. Fortunately, the clacking of the Chariot’s wooden-step rails against the ground did well to force his mind to leave that grating topic behind.
"We’re here," Yu Quixan said with a smile just about as fake as the tough facade she was putting on. "More than the other times, there will be a lot more Mortals and Cultivators gathered outside the Royal Palace. After all, the tolls of the Bell of Mourning have already begun to ring."
Gong—!
Gong—!
Sticking thousands of meters high into the sky in the Northeastern part of the Royal Capital of Quixan was a grandiose bell tower. Swinging inside its highest point was a black and silver bell that had inscribed on it depictions of death and the joy that came about from the life that the person lived before meeting their end.
The Bell of Mourning.
It was a holy monument of the Quixan Dynasty, and was only used when a member of the Royal Family had passed... or was about to pass...
The ones who watched over the Bell of Mourning were instructed to ring it 12 times the moment they received word that the Emperor’s condition had reached a point of extreme criticality.
The end of an existence was fast approaching, with each gong representing another inch taken off the Emperor’s life.
On the final gong, the current benevolent Emperor of the Quixan Dynasty would be no more. This was why Zar felt a melancholic air as soon as he got out of the Flying Chariot, for the tens of thousands gathered outside the Royal Palace were either on the verge of tears or already bawling their eyes out.
Together he strode alongside Valley Master Yu. As they ascended the wide marble stairs leading up to the Royal Palace, many took notice of them.
"Is that...?"
"It can’t be!"
"The 1st Princess has returned!?"
This was the first time Yu Quixan had returned to the Royal Capital of Quixan without a disguise of some sort, hence it was only natural that numerous people recognized her true identity at a glance. Even so, they knew their places, and calling out to or approaching someone like the 1st Princess was too much.
