Chapter 58: The Death of Demon King Wang

Chapter 58: The Death of Demon King Wang

"Arghhh—! I-It hurts!!" the Demon King hollered while rolling around on the ground, the white flames searing his skin and existence, unable to be put out. "IT’S SOOO PAINFUL!!!"

The Demon King’s pained voice bled the ears of the Core Disciples, effectively snapping them out of their reveries and prompting them to hold their hands over their ears.

However—

The screaming suddenly stopped.

That was when they refocused on the ethereal man, which was when they saw a head full of loose gray hair clutched in between the webs of his fingers. The ethereal man looked at this cut-off head with disgust, finding nothing more irritating than a strong person who turned cowardly and pathetic as soon as they were faced with death.

Zar had faced death once before. And yet, not once had he considered cowering or pleading before the one destined to take his life.

He faced his death head-on, a fierce, unwilling glow burning brightly within his icy blue gaze until the very moment he breathed his last.

"What a waste of cultivation," Zar scowled before vanishing like a phantom apparition.

"W-Wait, Senior...!"

The one who called out was the head of a highly renowned family in this Core Sect, but his voice fell on deaf ears, for the mysterious ethereal figure was already gone.

Slumping to the hardwood floor, the Steel Fang Family Head murmured, "Just who was that person...? He could’ve at least stayed long enough for us to thank him..."

Others in the room sighed in disappointment, feeling that they had just missed an opportunity to befriend what was surely a legend of the Sect—likely the only opportunity they’d ever receive as well.

"He was so handsome," muttered a fairy-like female Core Disciple, being the only one to glimpse his side-view as he departed.

She then decided, right then and there, that unless it was him, she’d marry no one else in this lifetime of hers!

When the male Core Disciples in the room got around to observing their Core Sect’s Goddess, they were crestfallen to discover her blushing profusely while cupping her cheeks. Tears of blood poured from their eyes as they couldn’t decide whether to respect or hate that ethereal bastard.

Meanwhile, while chasing down another Demon King to snatch his Spatial Rings and other such possessions, Zar felt a cold chill. He cautiously surveyed his surroundings but noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

Shaking his head, he resumed what he was doing.

— Some time later —

Finally, after several incense sticks’ worth of time, Zar made it to the location of the last of the Demon Kings. Surprisingly, it was at the translucent barrier leading to the Higher Expanse, thousands of miles above the Lower Expanse Sect Grounds.

However, what Zar did not know was that on the other side of the invisible Higher Expanse Barrier, a cloudy-eyed woman of divine beauty was staring straight at him. She drowsily rubbed her eyes before getting a better look at the ongoings outside the barrier.

"Oh... Is that someone from the Demonic Faction Sects...?" she asked herself in a very sleepy tone, yawning. "Hmm... Wasn’t I supposed to prevent people like them from coming into the Sect?"

That’s right!

This listless woman was Yu Yu, none other than the Supreme Elder left behind with the sole task of safeguarding the Sect!

And even though her peers and everyone else in the Higher Expanse had been on the fence when deciding whether or not to actually leave behind someone as unreliable as her, they knew it was better than having her with them on the battlefield. Thus, they reluctantly made the call and requested that she stay behind, which she agreed to with a lazy tone, not even really having known what they were saying to her at the time.

She then proceeded to go to sleep and had been asleep until just a couple of seconds ago, when a reverberating explosion spread ripples across the Barrier. This urged her awake, and she saw that a demonic man was skewered to the outside of the barrier, leading to the present.

"Can you... Can you at least tell me who you are...?" Demon King Wang asked with a lifeless gleam.

But Zar could see through his intentions.

At this very moment, Zar had his Sword Sense overseeing the Asura Fiend Sect fifteen million miles away. At the Sect, the Primordial Soul of the Demon King before him was scrambling to his feet, fleeing like his life depended on it.

Zar heaved what felt like the millionth sigh today, and with a heavy hand, he slashed the pitiful Demon King in half. But that was not yet the end, for his Sword Aura blade blurred, dicing both halves of the Demon King into millions of tiny pieces.

Then, with a brilliant eruption of white fire, the Low-Heaven Rank Lotus Fire incinerated what remained of the Demon King.

In his last moments, he appeared to be in disbelief, not understanding why he wasn’t asked questions or interrogated. As a Grand Elder of the Blazing Sun Sect, shouldn’t he have been inquired about their purpose in being here??

In truth, Zar had long since learned the reason they had invaded the Blazing Sun Sect. But the reason was just too shallow for him to care.

Better to just erase them all and be done with it.

Which was exactly what Zar did as he flicked his wrist, sending out a sliver of Sword Aura that shot toward the horizon. It drew a flawless white line over a distance of millions of miles, reaching the frightened Primordial Soul of the Oldest Demon King in an instant.

His life came to an end right then and there, taking with him a tenth of his Sect as it went up in raging white flames.

"Hmm... The Demonic Faction person is dead...? Was I not supposed to be the only one protecting the Sect...?" Yu Yu tilted her head, letting her long white hair waterfall off to the side. "Am confused..."

She was deliberating leaving the barrier to go and ask this shadowy man who he was. But more importantly than that, she wanted to know if she was allowed to not work anymore.

Not that she was doing any to begin with...
