Chapter 46: 2nd Bombing Day Begins, Attack on the Outer Expanse
Wait!
Was this aloof, cultivation-obsessed man actually an ideal cultivation partner candidate!?
’Humph! There’s no way what he has to offer is enough! Not enough! Not nearly enough!!’
Like the stubborn woman she was, Xue Qing refused to believe that a man like Zar could possibly be a good fit for someone as great as her.
"Senior," said Alter Xue Qing. "Can I really come back with you? You aren’t... You aren’t disgusted by my appearance...?"
Zar looked visibly confused. "Why would your appearance disgust me?" he asked. "To Cultivation, everyone looks the same. It doesn’t discriminate. And neither do I."
Alter Xue Qing revealed a lovable smile, her eyes creasing up in happiness.
Zar wasn’t following, but from her reactions, he could pretty much guess that she was fine with returning to the Azure Medicine Valley with him.
Now he just had to see what Xue Qing Prime’s opinion was on the matter.
After bidding farewell to the Trial Elders and respectfully rejecting every one of their proposals, Zar prepared to leave. And it was from within a Private Room isolated with his Lifespan Barrier that he confronted the feisty, personable Xue Qing Prime once more.
They stared at each other for a good half a minute, both not saying a word.
Until finally, Xue Qing Prime broke the silence, clicking her tongue and saying, "You really are a persistent one! If I looked like I did before, I’d claim that you were just lusting after us, but I know that someone with your level of attractiveness would be able to reach far higher if you wanted to!"
Zar gave no response, simply blinking while waiting for her to get everything off her average-sized chest.
"Hey, you were just thinking about my breasts, weren’t you!?"
"I was not."
He denied it with an unbeatable poker face!
"You..." Xue Qing Prime puffed out her cheeks, acting more like a frustrated teenage girl than a ten-thousand-year-old monster. "Humph! Fine then, you win! I’ll go back with you to your home or whatever, but you better work like a horse in order to help restore me to my original strength. I’ll eat you and devour your Cores if you don’t, grrr!"
"Sure, sure," said Zar, wondering why she seemed so much like a feral animal. "Let’s get a move on then—"
Suddenly!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Thousands of explosions went off at almost the same time, tipping many Disciples of the Blazing Sun Sect off their feet.
But that was merely the appetizer for what was to come, for after a few seconds, after innumerable powerful figures left certain parts of the Lower Expanse, complete and total chaos ensued:
KA—BOOOOOM!
A massive thundering explosion tore through the air, shaking the entire Blazing Sun Sect. Thousands of miles up above, an incalculably large crack in a filamental golden barrier could be seen getting progressively worse.
"That is..." Prime Xue Qing muttered after taking over the reins. "The Outer Expanse’s Sect Barrier."
Zar stared at the huge crack in the sky, watching in real time as it quickly enlarged to the point of extending beyond the limits of his Divine Sense and eyes. Each individual streak of the crack already filled up his entire vision of the skies.
"That Barrier is at least of the Heaven Rank," said Prime Xue Qing. "Something like that is even capable of defending against Virtual Destruction Realm Experts. Yet... it still cracked, which must mean someone on the inside tampered with it...
And you can sense them, can’t you? Those auras..."
Origin Infant Realm!
Unbelievably powerful!
Suffocating!!
"Of course I can," replied Zar, his tone cold as ice. "They’re strong."
With a face as serious as can be, Prime Xue Qing asked, "Can you take them?"
Zar went silent, thinking deeply.
In the end, he shook his head. "I don’t know."
"Will you lose...?"
"I... don’t know."
Prime Xue Qing secretly deliberated over something inside her head. Clearly, something huge was about to go down, and if she wanted to, she could leave only by herself. It was the safest option.
But...
"Argh!" She pulled at her hair. "I’ll put my faith in you this one time, you brat! You better not disappoint me, for you won’t get another chance!"
Zar appeared taken aback, but after noticing how tough it must’ve been for her to make that decision—even ignoring her own nature—he smiled.
However, his expression quickly iced over at the sudden appearance of multiple powerful cultivators adorned in the robes of Devil Horn Sect.
"A 1st-rate Sect," said Zar as he placed his right hand around the hilt of a black sword he kept by his waist. "But..."
[Li Fengyun (Core Formation 3rd Layer) 89/460/790]
[Bai Wushang (Foundation Establishment 6th Layer) 38/275/650]
[Han Zixuan (Foundation Establishment 7th Layer) 37/292/722]
[Mu....]
x28 others...
"They’re not very strong," Zar coldly uttered as he descended from the air before sauntering out of the Arena.
"S-Senior Immortal...!" The Trial Elders snapped out of their stupor and shouted at him, worry etched across their faces. "It’s too dangerous! There’s even a Core Formation Realm Master among them! You should run!"
"I appreciate the concern, Elders," Zar replied without turning his head, his back growing larger in their eyes. "But I can handle a few unsavory characters like these."
OOOM!
Under the guise of the eruption of his Half-step Core Formation Realm aura, a shadowy replica of himself flitted over the clouds above. Zar Prime and his Primordial Soul functioned with the same brain and coordinated in sync, yet their parts to play in this catastrophic event would be very different.
"Hm?" Prime Xue Qing turned her head off to the side, feeling a familiar aura zip through the skies at inconceivable speeds. "It can’t be..."
Her shocked gaze shot toward the otherworldly man walking out of the Arena to confront the approaching sinister figures.
’Is he actually planning to leave the biggest opposing contenders to his Genuine Primordial Soul Manifestation!? This lunatic!’
It was at this moment that regret over relying on him began to well up inside her. She should’ve known better than to believe in anyone other than herself.
And now, she was likely to die because of it...
FWIP! FWIP! FWIP!
Arriving before him on flying swords were a medium-sized group of around 30 Cultivators from the Devil Horn Sect. Zar flipped his frigid gaze between all of them, finding no Lifespan sheets out of the ordinary.
Seeing him sigh infuriated the Devil Horn Sect Cultivators.
