Chapter 39: Master’s Invitation, Core Elder Ye Xuan Pitiful Fate
"Emotion Response noted: Resists his hatred to the point of wanting to protect a Therian."
A robotic voice that couldn’t be heard by Zar or Hua Ling echoed.
But after that message, it went silent, coming and going without anyone knowing...
Right around when they neared the eloquent home of Valley Master Yu, Zar finally asked, "What are you going to do about him?"
Without even needing to ask what he was talking about, Hua Ling spoke with a resolute voice, "I’m going to fight and defeat him. Only that way will he leave me alone."
Zar went silent.
Eventually, he prompted a serious question:
"Let’s say you actually do become strong enough to beat him, are you sure that he’ll actually leave you alone for good? Because frankly, I don’t think it’ll end with just that."
Hua Ling’s expression turned complicated. In her heart, she knew that he was correct. With Li Tianyao’s status as the favored young Master of a huge family with Cultivators above the Deity Transformation Realm inside it, it was very possible that defeating him wouldn’t be the end of things.
She knew better than anyone how arrogant young Masters operated.
Neither Zar nor Hua Ling said much more for the remainder of the walk to Valley Master Yu’s home. However, in Zar’s mind, he was already imagining ways he could go about killing Li Tianyao were he to cause any trouble with Hua Ling or the Medicine Valleys.
Maybe using his Primordial Soul’s physical manifestation could work...
— Some time later —
Bidding farewell to one another, Hua Ling returned to her cultivation in her own personal cave abode on Azure Medicine Valley, whereas Zar waited at the entrance to Yu Quixan’s home.
It was only after receiving word from her that he entered through arched-shaped gates. He then stopped and slightly bowed his head at the sight of the drop-dead gorgeous woman gracefully plucking her Guqin.
"You still visit this Master of yours?" she asked with a passive-aggressive tone. "I had assumed you forgot all about me, what with all those beautiful female disciples fawning over you in Carefree Medicine Valley."
Zar nervously laughed, unsure of what else to do.
"In my heart, you’re #1, Master," he ultimately said, which did well to assuage some of her hidden frustrations. "But let’s not talk about me. I’m just a nobody. You, on the other hand, are like a fairy goddess sent down from heaven to bless us mere mortals. But even as an ungodly being, you still have family, so... How are they?"
Valley Master Yu sweetly smiled. "You’re trying to indirectly ask about my father’s situation, aren’t you?"
"...No... Maybe..."
Valley Master Yu’s grievances had all but vanished, and with a coquettish smile, she replied, "My father is still alive. Actually, I plan to visit him in a few days."
Her perfectly carved eyebrows suddenly furrowed as she considered something.
Turning her head up, she stole Zar’s gaze. "Would you like to come...?"
This was a hard question for her to ask, because it meant revealing her identity. But after living around Zar for the better part of two dozen years, she felt like she could confide in him what she usually kept to herself.
’Is she actually going to reveal her true identity??’
Zar’s thoughts stirred. He wondered why she had the change of stance; it wasn’t like her to do something that conflicted with her original intentions.
He felt like denying the offer. The last thing he wanted was to involve himself with something like a Royal Family, especially not one like the Quixan Dynasty, which had the disciples of dozens of sects planted within their hierarchical infrastructure.
But... it wasn’t like he could refuse her now that she resolved herself to reveal something so major...
"If that’s your wish, then I naturally won’t refuse, Master," Zar said with a respectful bow.
Valley Master Yu smiled.
With his reclusive personality, she wasn’t sure he’d agree, and he likely didn’t want to. But for what she assumed to be for the sake of their relationship, he did.
Knowing this put Valley Master Yu in a pleasant mood that rolled over to the next few days. She practically glowed, and continued appearing that way until it came time for her to leave the Medicine Valley and Sect.
That morning, she woke up and saw Zar standing by the arch-gates to her courtyard. She beamed even more, and with her happiness levels very high, she greeted him before taking him to her personal flying carriage.
"So this is a flying carriage," Zar muttered in awe as his eyes observed its sleek curvature and elegant style. "It’s different from what I imagined..."
Valley Master Yu giggled. "If this is your first time seeing a flying carriage, then you really must get out more. How many times have you left the general area that encompasses our Medicine Valleys?"
Zar thought about it. He answered, "...None..."
It was a bold-faced lie.
Just his Primordial Soul had basically traveled all across the Rising Dawn Province. Taking with him the Shadow Beast Army, they slaughtered countless demon beasts and destroyed untold numbers of evil organizations.
Zar was not unfamiliar with the outside world.
But to those around him, he was...
"Are you not going to get on?" asked Valley Master Yu, seeing that he was just standing there with an absentminded look on his face. "We have some time, but I figured you’d want to get there early."
"And why is that?"
"Well... because, you know..."
For the first time since meeting Yu Quixan, Zar saw her blush. And for some reason, it only made her look all the prettier.
"...We can walk around..." she continued in a muffled tone, averting her flickering gaze. "I wanted to show you... my hometown."
Zar, the dense bastard, failed to comprehend the nuance of her words. He simply nodded, with a bit of confusion swirling around inside his mind.
’Why is she so embarrassed about that? Women really are so perplexing...’
Despite his unbelievable level of denseness, he and Valley Master Yu departed from Azure Medicine Valley on a flying carriage. In less than a couple seconds, they were already sailing through the skies dozens of miles away.
Hua Ling, who was looking up from her cave abode, revealed a small frown.
"Master got ahead of me again..."
Her mutterings suddenly transformed into resolve as she put even more effort into her cultivation.
"But I won’t let you have the lead forever."
— A week later —
Cutting through a grouping of clouds, Zar and Valley Master Yu watched as the scenery dramatically changed.
Thousands of meters below them was a beautiful city that stretched further than their divine senses could extend. Therian cultivators ranging from the Body Refinement to the Deity Transformation Realm could be seen moving throughout the city, talking with each other, trading valuable items, and even mingling with the mortals.
There had to be millions of cultivators, as well as billions of regular mortal citizens.
Acting confused, Zar said, "Your hometown is the Quixan Capital City??"
Are you actually some family’s little princess or something?" He joked, not expecting anything to come from it.
However...
Valley Master Yu’s lips pursed. She turned toward the otherworldly handsome man sitting beside her, and with a difficult expression, said, "You’re right."
"!?!"
"I’m what!?" Zar feigned surprise, his eyes bulging out of his head. "Are you telling me you’re actually a Princess!? No way!"
Sensing something was up, Valley Master Yu froze. Then her cheeks puffed up as she lightly punched him in the arm.
"You knew all along, didn’t you?" she asked in a mildly chilling tone.
"N-No," replied Zar, his eyes arching into crescent moons. "Ho... How could you think such a thing...?? To me, you’ve always been the most stunning Master there ever was! Nothing more, nothing less—"
*Pow!*
Another cotton punch to the arm!
"Jerk," she harrumphed before crossing her arms under her large breasts and staring out the flying carriage’s window.
’And after all the courage I had to work up to tell him... He really is just a big dumb jerk who only knows how to love cultivation...!"’
Sensing the atmosphere inside the carriage becoming a little depressing, Zar said, "I’ll make it up to you, Master. Anything you want, and I’ll—"
"An entire day."
"Huh?"
Valley Master Yu looked him straight in the eye, and as serious as she could be, she repeated, "An entire day. Today. We’ll do whatever I want, and you’ll have no choice but to go along with what I say."
Damn! Should’ve known better than to ask that!
Zar just didn’t learn...
"...If we do that, then you’ll forgive me?" he asked with a spasm.
Valley Master Yu nodded.
"Okay..."
She visibly brightened up at his response, and when they landed at the closest Flying Ship and Carriage Port, she immediately started pulling him around. Furthermore, she did what he didn’t want her to do by asking how he figured out her true identity.
Left with no other choice, Zar pinned all the blame on Core Elder Ye Xuan.
Valley Master Yu promised to get him back for this one day, and all Zar could do was pray in his heart for Ye Xuan to safely make it out alive...
*Achoo!*
While rubbing his nose in a meditative position, Core Elder Ye Xuan tilted his head in bewilderment.
"How can I sneeze as a Void Crossing Realm Expert...? Is someone cursing me behind my back or something?? I don’t think anyone dares..."
Little did he know there was someone who dared. A lass with a vengeance.
