Lifespan Extraction: I Ascend As The Immortal Beast Tamer -
Chapter 36: Core Elder Ye Xuan, Over 300,000 years of Lifespan
Chapter 36: Core Elder Ye Xuan, Over 300,000 years of Lifespan
’Oh no...’
Zar’s expression instantly drooped, with his Lifespan Detection spotting several abnormally powerful cultivators floating in the skies above. Even higher and further away, positioned hundreds of miles above the clouds, were even more terrifying figures — their cultivations by far the most powerful Zar had ever felt.
[Mo Chen (1st Layer Void Crossing) 1020/3200/3750]
[Ye Xuan (4th Layer Void Crossing) 1470/3500/3960]
[Shen Qianfeng (3rd Layer Void Crossing) 1510/3380/3905]
Two very powerful Elite Elders and a low-level Core Elder!
He was screwed!!
Trying his best not to let the turmoil inside him show through his twitching expression, Zar opened up the door to his house. The hesitant face of Meng immediately greeted him, which put him even deeper into the pits of despair.
He slipped up, didn’t he?
His low-key lifestyle was about to come to an end, wasn’t it...?
The dangerously competitive world of Immortal Cultivation inside a Great Sect; just how long could he live within such an environment? How long until he was found dead inside an alleyway with his organs and possessions missing??
Zar knew very well how these things worked!
In the real world outside of fictional stories with plot armor, there was always someone more powerful.
An Ancestor above an Ancestor above an Ancestor’s Ancestor!
In the grand scheme of things, his Void Crossing Realm battle prowess meant nothing!!
’Well, at least I have this glorious System Notification to accompany me in the afterlife...’
*Ding~!*
[You seized 1020 years of Lifespan from a 2nd Layer Void Crossing Realm Lesser Demon Lord!]
[Your Lifespan surpasses 300,000!]
’300,000 Lifespan is a good number to finish off life on—’
"Junior Brother Zar..."
Here it comes!
"I’ve come to inform you that..."
Just say it already! Give the death sentence!
"That I’ve... gotten engaged to Junior Sister Chu!"
’Here it is, my... Wait, what did this goofball just say??’
"Could you repeat that again?" asked Zar, his face twitching unnaturally. "I don’t believe I heard you correctly."
Meng happily laughed away, wearing a silly smile on his face. "You’ve always been prone to zoning off, Junior Brother Zar, but I’ll tell you again — I’m getting married to Junior Sister Chu! The beautiful Junior Sister who joined the neighboring Spring Blossom Medicine Valley some years ago has actually agreed to marry someone like me! Isn’t it a miracle!?"
Zar’s brain stopped functioning for a moment before he exhaled his heaviest sigh yet.
"So let me get this straight: you’re not here because of that over there?" he asked while pointing at the endless trail of destruction permanently altering the topography of the Outer Sect.
Meng’s silly face looked where Zar was pointing but dismissively waved off the destruction.
"According to Master, something like that could only be caused by a supreme expert of the Sword Dao," he said. "She told us not to worry about it. After all, as ants, what use is it fretting over the actions of Gods? Haha! So about my marriage with Junior Sister Chu, you’ll be my best man, won’t yo—"
*Wham!*
Closing his door in the face of the happy-go-lucky Meng, Zar went back to cultivating on his mat, his mood soured.
First, that guy had the gall to scare the crap out of him. Then he actually dared to brag about his marriage right before his face??
Meng was truly courting death!
"If not for the sake of my impeccable track sheet, I swear I would’ve taken his Lifespan for myself," Zar clicked his tongue, seeing if the act of cultivation could help him erase that idiot’s goofy image out of his mind.
’Void thy mind... Become Void...’
Chants echoed inside Zar’s head as he worked toward breaking through the 6th Layer of Deity Transformation. With the help provided by investing 10 years of Lifespan every day into cultivation, he felt there to be hope of breaking through within the next two years.
He just had to keep on cultivating in secret. Like always.
When the sun rose in the sky, the Soul Transformation, Deity Transformation, and Void Crossing Realm Blazing Sun Sect experts were still flying about. The same could be said of the next day, the day after, and the days after that.
It was only after the passing of several weeks that they eventually started to disperse, with the weaker among them going first.
However, even after two months flew by, there remained a single one among them who stayed. And unfortunately for Zar’s low-key lifestyle, it was the most powerful among them.
The 4th Layer Void Crossing Realm Core Elder.
Without anyone inside the Medicine Valleys, Outer Sect, or even Inner Sect aware of his existence, he lapped the nearest ten-thousand-mile radius several times over. It seemed like he’d never give up, with even Zar getting a little worried that he’d never be able to breathe freely again.
However, it wasn’t long after that worry surfaced that the Core Elder finally left.
A week later, Core Elder Ye Xuan returned.
Zar’s emotions were thrown into a cyclone, not knowing whether to settle down or not.
A few more weeks passed, and it was only after the four-month mark since Zar’s ’little accident’ that the Core Elder left. And left for good this time.
A few days after calming his nerves, Zar realized that his Primordial Soul had just arrived at the Blazing Sun Sect. This meant it was now time to put his begging skills to work — for he had to request his Master to make use of her special status to directly admit Mei Yue into the Sect—!
"Her?? Why are you even asking??? Of course she can join! But not just anyone can admit someone of her caliber into the Sect, so let me contact an acquaintance of mine."
It was this easy!?
All those tests and trials he had to endure... all that work...
Why did it all feel so meaningless...?
"Does... does this mean I can join an Immortal Sect!?" Mei Yue whispered to Zar, failing terribly to hide her excitement.
After having her potential discerned by Valley Master Yu with a check of her pulse, she felt as if she actually had a chance. A chance to join a mythical Immortal Sect!
’Can you join...? I don’t know, are you about to become the next Sect Master!??’
The cluelessness of the pretty young woman beside him had Zar facepalming.
When she first arrived with Primordial Soul Zar, there was that whole ordeal with explaining why there were two of them. But just like now, it was thanks to her ignorance that he could get away with spouting some random bullsh*t.
’I just hope this girl can ascend very high up in the Blazing Sun Sect. Only that way can I get what I originally brought her back to the Sect for—an indebted contact on the inside of the upper echelons.’
FWIP!
Less than a few seconds later, an oddly familiar figure teleported outside Valley Master Yu’s gazebo. He had long white and wild hair, profoundly imbedded eyes, and a gray beard that swayed below his chest line.
Suddenly realizing why this old man felt so familiar, Zar thought, ’The 4th Layer Void Crossing Realm guy!’
He was the persistent one. The one that didn’t at all want to give up on finding whatever—or whoever—slew the Demonic Faction Demon Lord.
Ye Xuan!
"Elder Xuan, what do you think of—"
Before Valley Master Yu could finish, Core Elder Ye Xuan went from casually stroking his beard to nearly ripping out a few strands from shock.
"A Holy Mark??" he exclaimed, practically jumping Mei Yue. "How could a Holy Mark be in an Outer Sect!?"
Valley Master Yu revealed a faint smile, saying, "My favorite Disciple told me he went out for a stroll some time ago. And that was when he found this young lass in a bar, cultivationless and being harassed."
Core Elder Ye Xuan’s piercing eyes instantly shot toward Zar.
’Fortunately, me and my Primordial Soul share the same consciousness,’ Zar thought as small beads of sweat trickled down his forehead. ’If not for that, then I never would’ve known I needed to hurriedly make an alibi when my Primordial Soul and Mei Yue neared.’
"This young hero is the one who brought us a heavenly genius with a Holy Mark??" Core Elder Ye Xuan looked Zar up and down but found nothing particularly special about him. "Well, your prospects hardly matter, young man. Even if you’re weak and untalented, for this meritorious deed of yours, feel free to request whatever you want! As long as it’s within my capabilities, I’ll grant your wish! And even if I can’t, when I report this back to the Grand Elders, they’ll surely help me fulfill your desires!"
Rather than focus on the rewarding part of Core Elder Ye Xuan’s speech, Mei Yue was more hung up on the ’untalented’ and ’weak’ things he stated Zar as being. To her, this made no sense.
Between the two, Zar felt stronger.
She could clearly sense it — their true strength. And with this ability that she hadn’t even told Zar about, she could tell.
’Zar is stronger.’
While flipping her puzzled gaze between the two of them, her confusion only worsened. No matter how many times she compared them, Zar was obviously the stronger one.
Both of their true strengths made her feel like puking due to how insanely powerful they were, but Zar’s made her want to puke more violently. And the difference was substantial.
"Hmm...?"
Noticing a pair of eyes burning holes into him, Zar briefly glanced at Mei Yue. And though he couldn’t tell what she was thinking, he instinctively knew that she wanted to ask him something.
