Lifespan Extraction: I Ascend As The Immortal Beast Tamer
Chapter 29: An Inch Away From 100,000 Years, Demonic Scout, A Bomb!?

Chapter 29: An Inch Away From 100,000 Years, Demonic Scout, A Bomb!?

Why would Inner Disciples that weren’t part of their Medicine Valley be here of all places?

Didn’t they usually stay within the Main Inner Sect Grounds, sparring and trading comprehensions and whatnot??

[Long Tian (Nascent Soul 3rd Layer) 175/855/1200]

[Xiao Fu (Nascent Soul 2nd Layer) 164/820/1140]

[Xue Lian (Nascent Soul 1st Layer) 68/795/2080]

"Hmm?" Zar’s brow arched in surprise. "That girl actually has the potential to reach the same realm as the Valley Master—the Deity Transformation Realm. In fact, all of them are extremely talented, with the two men possessing the potential necessary to achieve the Peak Soul Transformation Realm at the very minimum..."

As his curiosity grew, Zar decided to leave his house-hut. He then pretended to accidentally come across the Inner Disciples as they were talking to Hua Ling on a balcony of one of the many buildings scattered around Azure Medicine Valley.

"You should know that the Young Master will not like this answer of yours, Junior Sister Hua!" Long Tian said in a dire, slightly angry tone. "Why do you insist on making all our lives more complicated!? The Young Master is the best man you’ll ever be fancied by! Why can’t you just give in this one time!?"

Hua Ling revealed a frosty expression colder than ever. She looked between all three of the Inner Disciples—two men and one woman—before saying, "I refuse. Who I marry is my decision to make, and mine alone. Your Young Master means nothing to me."

"You...!"

The three Inner Disciples seethed in rage, both because of the slight against their Young Master and the soon-to-be consequences of this refusal.

"This won’t be the end of this, Junior Sister Hua!" Long Tian warned as he and the others left the pagoda. "When the Young Master hears of this, your future life in the Blazing Sun Sect won’t be so easy!"

Hua Ling paid them no mind, instead glancing at a wall of the third floor she was on.

"Junior Brother Zar, what are you doing here?" she inquired in a tone far softer and more coquettish than when talking with the Inner Disciples.

Awkwardly stepping out from behind the wall, Zar apologized, saying, "I didn’t mean to spy, Senior Sister, but I couldn’t help but be drawn in by those powerful Seniors. I hope I didn’t offend."

"No... It’s not a problem," replied Hua Ling, a soft sigh escaping her cherry-red lips.

[Hua Ling (Core Formation 9th Layer) 25/650/2800]

’It won’t be long before she breaks through to the Nascent Soul Realm...’

"May I sit?" Zar asked, his thoughts still focused on her system interface.

Hua Ling nodded.

Pulling out a chair at the table she was sitting at, Zar sat himself down. A question then left his mouth. "Who were those Inner Disciples? What did they want with you, Senior Sister?"

Hua Ling’s light breathing went a bit offbeat, her exasperation building.

Answering Zar’s question, she said, "They’re Inner Disciples who serve as lackeys under Li Tianyao—an Elite Disciple. A strong one among Elite Disciples as well. Rumors depict him as some great prodigal hero who has thwarted dozens of Demon Beast Tides, with his cultivation on the verge of reaching the Deity Transformation Realm.

As for what those lackeys wanted with me... well, I’m sure you heard most of it. That Li Tianyao wants to marry me under the pretense of love, but I know it’s just to satiate his lust. I’d be the first girl to become his wife, but I wouldn’t be the first he targeted in such a crude way."

Zar showed hesitation in wanting to say something, which prompted Hua Ling to tell him to speak freely. He did just that, saying, "Forgive my frankness, Senior Sister, but you don’t appear all that bothered by this whole ordeal..."

"No, I suppose I’m not."

Hua Ling listlessly stared out into the scenery of the Azure Medicine Valley.

"That Li Tianyao is stronger than I am, and in the world of Immortal Cultivation, strength is everything," she said. "But even if that may be the case, I refuse to give in so easily. I came here to this Medicine Valley to escape my destiny, and Li Tianyao is less of a terror than the one... Never mind."

"Hum?" Zar’s interest surged, but he pried no further. "Well, if you need my assistance in anything, feel free to ask, Senior Siste—"

"A massage??"

’Damn, I knew I shouldn’t have opened my big fat mouth,’ Zar cursed inside his mind.

"I-If that is what you truly wish for," he said helplessly. "Just give me a time later, and I’ll—"

"Tonight," Hua Ling answered almost instantly, her mood vastly better than it was when talking with the three Inner Disciples. "You can come to my house tonight, can’t you??"

Zar’s eyelids twitched, but he nonetheless nodded.

After a few moments, he ultimately left the restaurant pagoda in a glum morass. Hua Ling, on the other hand, could be seen watching his departing figure with a rarely seen smile.

As time flowed forward, the members of Azure Medicine Valley continued in their cultivations and daily duties. And without anyone realizing it, seven months passed in the blink of an eye.

[Lifespan: 24/99,970]

It would be any day now that Zar would smash his goal of amassing 100,000 years of Lifespan!

However, suddenly attracting his attention was the emergence of an odd aura. Valley Master Yu seemed to be too immersed in her cultivation to notice, so Zar felt compelled to rise and check it out himself.

Taking one step, and then another, he reappeared thousands of meters away, on the other side of the flat mountaintop. It was there that he got a better look at the owner of that odd aura.

[Demonic Scout Mo (Nascent Soul 5th Layer) 368/960/1105]

’A Demonic Scout??’ Zar questioned. ’And one in the Nascent Soul Realm to boot?? What’s something like him doing in a low-level place like this???’

The Demonic Scout currently under scrutiny had blackened eyes that warily darted around. He was obviously on edge, but what Zar couldn’t figure out was why.

That was when he saw the Demonic Scout take a beeping red object out of his Spatial Ring. Then, with a swift, nervous series of motions, he dug a deep hole and threw the beeping red object inside.

After which, he fled like his life depended on it, vanishing into the distance as a flying blur.

Feeling a bad premonition coming on, Zar quickly descended to where the Demonic Scout had just been standing. He erased the upper layer of earth with a swipe of his hand, only to find that beeping red object beeping even faster than before.

Grabbing it with his telekinesis, Zar brought the beeping object close. And though he had no clue what he was looking at, he sensed a large amount of the Law of Destruction infused into the object’s magically imbued wires.

His first instinct was to destroy the unknown object, but he held back at the last second. Instead of doing something so reckless, he chucked it at an uninhabited neighboring mountain.

Suddenly!

KA—BOOOOOM!!!

Right where the beeping red object landed, a massive thundering explosion shook the lands.

Less than a second later, dozens of other such rumbling explosions went off in the surroundings. All of them sounded at virtually the same time; earthquakes formed, and chasms in the ground opened up.

"Junior Brother Zar!" Meng called out from a few dozen meters away. "Did you see what just happened!? Was it an attack on the Sect!??"

Zar shook his head, unable to give him the answers he wanted. "I just happened to be taking a late-night stroll when I heard an explosion go off. I know just as much as you, Senior Brother Meng."

Meng looked disappointed but didn’t probe any further. As he shifted away from Zar, his eyes suddenly widened at the apocalyptic sight before him.

"Junior Brother Zar... The mountain... That one over there," he muttered incoherently. "Where... Where did it go!?"

Looking where Meng was staring with his mouth agape, Zar saw the area where he had tossed that beeping red object. However, where there used to be a mountain, there remained only a huge empty hole, with residual tendrils of destructive energy emanating from within the depths of the hole.

’That thing was a one-time-use weapon, and an extremely powerful one at that,’ Zar thought indifferently, though he showed just as much outward surprise as his Senior Brother. ’Even Nascent Soul Realm Cultivators would have trouble defending against an attack of that magnitude. Which means that whoever that Demon Scout was, he aimed to annihilate Azure Medicine Valley.

Obviously, he had no idea about the Valley Master’s true cultivation.’

That was when Zar remembered that there hadn’t been just a single explosion.

Turning toward the distance, he saw large clouds of smoke rising to the limits of the atmosphere.

"Those are where other Medicine Valleys are located..."

He somehow doubted they were as fortunate as their Medicine Valley...

"Disciples, gather at once!"

Valley Master Yu’s dire voice reverberated, urging everyone to stop standing around dumbly and dash to the Medicine Valley’s Center Square. Zar joined them, but he purposefully arrived as one of the latest disciples so as not to alert anyone to his true martial prowess.

Once everyone found themselves at the Center Square, Valley Master Yu spoke up, saying, "I’m sure all of you heard the explosions. A few of you might have even noticed the lack of a mountain that once stood beside us. I know you must be terrified, and there are no excuses I can fabricate to make you understand what just happened. Therefore, I’ll tell you straight up..."

"We’ve been attacked."

"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"
