Chapter 1201: Chapter 1201: Farewell Weiken (Requesting Monthly Passes for this Mega Chapter)

The intense sound of artillery fire gradually faded away, while the snow covering the forest exuded a faint chill. A figure bathed in a crimson glow darted swiftly through the pale, misty woods.

Behind him, sporadic gunfire lingered faintly, but it was growing more distant.

Because of his attack on Smot, he had become the target of pursuit by the West Iron and Steel Mercenary Corps.

This created a minor obstacle in his escape from the battlefield, but it was nothing significant.

Now, he had already received Chaos’s blessing and possessed the power of a B-level Extraordinary.

The more he killed, the greater Chaos’s pleasure, unlocking his power to its fullest potential.

A B-level Extraordinary might not be able to face the full-scale assault of a mercenary corps, but escaping from a chaotic battlefield without constraints? That was almost effortless.

He avoided causing trouble with the City Defense Army within the city, fearing being surrounded and trapped like a hunted animal.

But in the wilderness, he had no such concerns.

Even while being hunted, he relied on his formidable strength to reach the edge of the battlefield swiftly, luring his pursuers away from their main force and taking them down one by one.

Only after he had completely satiated his bloodthirst did he stop his slaughter and venture deeper into the forested mountains.

The densely packed woods overlapped in layers, and within the eerie white snow, faint, rustling sounds seemed to linger.

These sounds, however, did not draw near but remained at a distance, faintly echoing.

Amidst the silent expanse of snow, there seemed to lurk amorphous, snowy-white shapes.

In the northern mountain ranges near Minte City, various feral beasts and exotic creatures posed increasing threats the deeper one ventured.

For decades, Weiken had never personally set foot here, though he had orchestrated numerous dealings related to the northern mountain range.

But none of those dealings outweighed his own life. Unless absolutely necessary, he would not take such risks.

Most of the time, all he needed to do was sit comfortably in his warm villa, issue a task, spend some money, and the problem would resolve itself naturally.

Sometimes, through his machinations, he could even "earn back" the money spent on those tasks.

Of course, that warm villa no longer existed, and the influence of the two major conglomerates in Minte City was crumbling at an alarming rate—

—all thanks to the arrival of that "Deputy Chief of Staff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation." Everything Weiken had built over half a lifetime had become unreliable, leaving him no choice but to personally enter these vast and perilous mountains.

Fortunately, however, the Church of Chaos had done him a big favor, gifting him this necklace imbued with Chaos’s blessing. With it, he now wielded sufficient power to face most of the dangers in these woods without fear.

In fact, he himself had become one of the perils of these woods.

Drifting snowflakes cascaded over the mountains. The sky, already shrouded in heavy clouds, grew even dimmer.

A faint light slipping through the cracks between the clouds was gradually fading, signaling the approach of dusk. Nightfall was near.

After dark, the northern mountains of Minte City would be far more terrifying than during the day.

B-level exotic beasts were not uncommon in this forest.

Weiken came to a halt, tilted his head upward, and gazed toward the distant horizon.

Then he raised his wrist device, bringing up an offline holographic map and quickly selecting a waypoint.

The map zoomed in, displaying possible scenes from that location.

After adjusting the map’s perspective to match his current view and confirming the route, he exhaled cautiously.

If given a choice, he would rather leave directly along a trade route.

Unfortunately, he had no money left. Even his emergency savings, set aside just in case, had been swindled away by that bastard Borek. He had no alternatives.

He must locate the Church of Chaos’s headquarters within these mountains.

If his hunch was correct, something had likely happened to the Church’s B-level elites, leaving their strongest forces empty. Coupled with most of their elite personnel having entered the city, even their mid-level strength was depleted.

This was the church’s most vulnerable moment in decades.

By his estimation, the vast "wealth" and extraordinary materials the Church of Chaos had meticulously amassed over the years through countless means were now ripe for a "new master."

With his current identity as a bearer of Chaos’s blessing, there was even a chance he could directly take command of the remaining chaotic believers and assume the role of an actual "Chaotic Elder."

With those resources and followers, rebuilding in another city would be well within reach.

Especially considering the extraordinary materials in the Church’s warehouses.

Relying indefinitely on Chaos’s blessing was not an option; he needed to bolster his own strength.

After everything he’d been through, he had come to realize that while wealth and power were crucial, personal strength was equally indispensable.

Lifting his gaze to the snow-covered, majestic mountain range ahead, Weiken resumed his stride.

The atmosphere around him grew increasingly unpleasant. This unease came not only from within himself but also from the "blessing" entwined around his body.

Why did the Church of Chaos choose to establish its headquarters in such a loathsome place?

What on earth were these fools worshiping?!

As these thoughts swirled, he suddenly looked up toward his left-front direction.

Among the depths of the forest in that direction, between the towering peaks, the nauseating aura seemed to weaken significantly.

Or perhaps, something over there was "drawing" him, counterbalancing the revulsion he felt.

Drawing the dagger from his waist, with one swift motion he stabbed through the neck of a snow-white creature buried in the frosty ground beside him.

His gaze shifted ahead. After a brief moment of deliberation, he abandoned his original route. Carrying the creature’s corpse, he turned and headed toward that area instead.

Eastern Plains of the Federation · Southern Side

A dense formation of troops advanced swiftly across the vast snowfields.

Hovering above the army was a silver, oval-shaped airship, guiding the troops forward.

At the airship’s uppermost deck, a bustling officer in a dark navy uniform pushed through the crowd, hurrying to reach the elderly man standing by a massive viewing window.

Lowering his head respectfully, the officer extended a folded piece of paper with both hands and offered it to the elder. "Captain, we’ve received a report from the reconnaissance unit."

The elder accepted the note, unfolded it, and briefly scanned its contents. His gaze flickered downward. "We’ve found traces of the Nolanka Group Mercenary Corps ahead? These bastards really are sharp. Even after avoiding Kaye City, they’ve somehow intercepted us."

Setting the note aside, he turned toward the expansive snowfields seen through the window.

"Order the entire army to prepare for battle. Tell everyone to stay sharp. We’re about to face one of the Federation’s rare remaining elite units—those who’ve actually fought large-scale legion wars. Curb their arrogant tempers.

"If stupidity gets them killed on the battlefield, they won’t receive any pity."

"Understood."

The younger officer replied promptly.

——

The relentless snowfall gradually obscured the roads, covering the convoy’s vehicles.

"How much longer until we arrive?"

In the lead SUV, the elderly passenger in the front seat turned to the driver beside him.

"We should arrive by tonight. According to the information we received, someone will meet us there."

The driver replied in a calm tone.

The sparse snowflakes pelted the whitening windshield. Equipped with a snow-clearing function, the wipers rhythmically swung back and forth, carving out a small, clear section of visibility.

Yet beyond the window, all remained an endless expanse of white.

"I think I hear something outside."

The figure seated in the back left raised their head, glancing sideways. "Gunfire? Over by Minte City?"

"That area is all battlefield now. We’ll need to avoid them."

The elderly passenger replied calmly, keeping his eyes on the road ahead.

"We’re running low on fuel."

The figure in the back right spoke softly, holding an engineering tablet. "We only brought enough to make a round trip to Limen City. At the time of departure, we hadn’t accounted for coming this way to Minte City.

"While the fuel and supplies are designed with some redundancy, they’ll only get us back to Minte City from the target point. We won’t have enough to reach another city after that."

Pausing briefly, they continued, "If the fighting around Minte City persists, our resupply might be cut off."

"No need to worry. If the higher-ups adjusted our destination, they must have made additional arrangements."

The elder in the front seat rasped. "We’ll stick to the plan. The group will have it all under control."

"Mm."

The figure in the back right gave a slight nod.

Behind the SUV stretched a convoy of box trucks, forming a long line as they slowly made their way northward along the trade route.

Near the end of the convoy, the final SUV passed over a small dip, shaking loose the ice and snow on its roof.

Revealing the emblem of the Stars City imprinted on the vehicle.

——

Vrrr—

A blood-red arc of sword light sliced through the air, cleaving a snow-white lizard with a humanoid head in two.

Scarlet droplets spattered over the pristine snow and the snow-laden branches.

Ignoring Xiya’s surprised expression, He Ao sheathed his blood-coated blade and looked towards the forest ahead. "Are we almost there?"

"We should be close,"

Xiya glanced up at the mountain peaks under the darkened sky and nodded softly.

She was still shaken by the encounter a moment ago.

The humanoid lizard had a bulky frame but moved with astonishing agility. Its entire white body blended seamlessly into the snow, making it nearly impossible to spot in the dim light.

This was one of the most dangerous creatures in the northern mountains during winter, found only in the deeper regions of the range.

When the lizard lunged out, Xiya hadn’t noticed at all. Before she could even react, the blood-red arc had already streaked through the air.

Looking down at the creature’s corpse on the ground, she took a deep breath.

That humanoid lizard’s sudden strike had the explosive strength of a C-level being. And it hadn’t targeted Suote in front but had gone directly for her.

If the attack had succeeded just now, she—not the lizard—would have been the one split into two.

"These powerful humanoid lizards usually only appear in the deeper regions of the northern mountains near Minte City,"

She raised her head and continued to explain,

"Encountering one means we’ve entered the mountain’s core area. Based on the records of ’Pseudo-Wolf’ we reviewed beforehand, their activity zone should be not far from here, along this path."

"The Wilderness Wanderers venture into areas like this?"

He Ao glanced at the icy lizard corpse on the ground and asked casually.

With that kind of explosive combat strength, the lizard was capable of wounding or even killing a C-level individual. The Wilderness Wanderers near Minte City likely didn’t have many individuals who could match up to it.

"They have no choice,"

Xiya sighed softly. "There are some rare extraordinary materials in the depths of the northern mountains. They’re sold for high prices on the market. Sometimes, Minte City also issues dangerous tasks requiring deep expeditions.

"Life necessities in the wilderness often came from Minte City, purchased from the two major conglomerates. During winter, or when winter approached and supplies ran scarce, the two conglomerates would unite to raise the prices of essential goods.

"To keep their families or camps alive, people were forced to accept these high-risk tasks.

"Some of the tasks issued by the conglomerates even tied purchase eligibility to mission completion—only by completing the task, often for a pittance, could they earn the right to buy necessities at inflated prices.

"Though we know the wilderness well, our knowledge is limited to the base of the mountains. We’re just as unfamiliar with the deep woods as the city folk.

"When it comes to dangerous creatures like humanoid lizards, our only options are instinct and experience to evade them. If luck turns sour, we just have to accept our fate,"

She said, gazing down at the corpse once more before sighing. "Winter is the deadliest season."

"So it seems you share your intelligence on the mountain depths?"

He Ao suddenly asked.

Typically, Wilderness Wanderer families and camps were isolated and often wary of one another, rarely sharing information. Yet Xiya clearly had access to crucial intel beyond her own organization.

And the details didn’t come across as crucial "military alliance" information either.

"Hm?"

Surprised by the question, Xiya blinked in mild confusion. She hadn’t expected He Ao to catch onto that. This "chief of staff" knew far more about the Wilderness Wanderers than she’d anticipated.

Recovering her composure, she answered, "In theory, Wilderness Wanderers don’t share intel amongst themselves."

She paused, then added, "But too many lives were lost when exploring the mountain depths. And risking failure at these missions, tied to essential resources, often endangered entire families or camps, preventing them from surviving the winter.

"The burden became unbearable for individual groups. Some dangerous areas accumulated corpses from multiple failed expeditions, hailing from various groups.

"To minimize such futile losses, my father, upon ascending to C-level, hosted a banquet during his promotion celebration to gather leaders of neighboring families and camps.

"Everyone had been considering this idea but lacked a catalyst. Once my father stepped forward, they followed suit. Together, they shared intel on the depths near Minte City.

"Of course, certain locations rumored to hide treasures remained veiled in secrecy. But most dangerous zones and safer routes were made public.

"After this ’united effort,’ winters became much easier to bear. That’s why my father gained prestige among Minte City’s Wilderness Wanderers, paving the way for forming the later united forces."

Seeming to realize she’d said too much, Xiya cleared her throat, her gaze shifting back to the surrounding woods. In a measured tone, she added,

"This route was one we forged through repeated exploration. It should theoretically be one of the safer paths, with a lower chance of encountering creatures like humanoid lizards."

She cast a glance across the boundless, snowy expanse. "But it seems our luck isn’t particularly good."

"It might not just be bad luck,"

He Ao shook his head, lifting his gaze toward the dense forest to one side. Smirking, he said, "You’ve been listening for so long. Aren’t you going to comment on everything you orchestrated, Mr. Weiken?"

"Couldn’t you leave *some* things untouched?"

A hoarse, aged voice echoed from the snowy woods.

From the snowy depths of the forest, an elderly man cloaked in a snow-white fur coat emerged slowly. Around his neck hung a silver necklace adorned with a fiery ruby, and his eyes had morphed into a grotesque, twisted crimson.

The fur he wore almost matched the humanoid lizard’s carcass for texture, spotted with bloodstains—it seemed to have been freshly stripped from another such creature.

As he emerged from the forest, his gaze swept over He Ao, noting the injuries on his body. Chuckling raspily, he said, "Honestly, I hadn’t expected this. Turns out the tasks I issued for mountain exploration inadvertently united these irritating Wilderness Wanderers."
