Chapter 50: Escape

Aurora had already lost absolutely everything she possessed and she didn’t want another soul to be sacrificed just so that she could escape, even if it meant her own death.

She was going to stand up, but Max caught her hand and said, "You need to escape now. I will follow you soon. My Talisman will teleport you instantly so use it quickly."

"But...."

"We don’t have time for this," Max coughed up some blood and pleaded. "Just use this Escape Talisman to leave this Kingdom. There’s a small town named Maple Town of Kelar Kingdom. Take refuge there and hide for some time."

Aurora’s words choked in her mouth, as she couldn’t help but become emotional. Maybe it was because of so many things she had witnessed in just a few hours or maybe she was simply touched by how Max was willingly sacrificing himself for her.

"Don’t make that face," Max scoffed lightly. "I’m harder to kill than you think, so leave now; otherwise we both will die and me coming here would be in complete vain."

He smiled weakly and sighed, "I’ll be happy if even one of you survives. Now go, I’ll find a way to get out of this situation."

Aurora wanted to argue but realised that her pursuers were already very close to them. She bit her lips once again, as clarity flared in her mind.

She tore apart her top, wrapped it around Max’s face and said, "This will protect your identity so make sure you get out of this alive."

It was dark, so nobody had noticed their faces properly, but if they did recognise Max, he would have a harsh life ahead, something Aurora did not want.

After that, she quickly stuffed her Escape Talisman in his hand and stood up.

Looking at the incoming Hunters with hatred in her eyes, she swore, "I will personally slaughter every single one of you even if it means going to the end of the world. Every Corelhelm will be wiped off from the face of this world."

In her mind, she added, ’Except for him and people like him.’

"Haha! We’re standing right in front of you, come on, kill us! Hahah!" A young man wearing a black suit from head to toe laughed loudly, even dropping his weapon to mock Aurora.

"Quit wasting time and bring her head! Also, bring that pest alive."

A man came walking behind them, his heavy voice silencing everyone. They acknowledged his orders and moved to intercept Aurora.

However, they were a bit late as a burst of light sparks surrounded Aurora before she vanished completely, leaving Max bleeding on the ground.

While she felt guilty, she also understood his words and her desire to survive was very strong. She didn’t want to die before she killed every last one of those people who had murdered her entire clan.

Using the Talisman had blinded her for a moment and when she was able to see again, she found herself standing before a large cottage.

Perhaps her body sensed that she was finally safe and succumbed to her deadly wounds. Her vision grew blurry as she dropped to the ground with a loud thump.

Before she lost her consciousness, there was only a single thought in her mind.

’Please survive! Please, don’t die on me!’

A few seconds later, a tall woman came out of the cottage with a white cat resting on her head. She crouched down near Aurora and muttered, "Oh! My! She’s actually the heir to the Ruler Bloodline and even possesses Ashborn blood. Asty, what do you think?"

"Really!?" The cat named Asty, who was on her hand, exclaimed. She observed Aurora for a moment before replying, "Even though her bloodline is dilute, it’s still the Ruler’s Bloodline. What do you plan to do with her?"

"Hmm, I haven’t taken any disciples yet, right?" The woman grinned and clicked her fingers as both of them disappeared along with Aurora’s wounded body.

On the other hand, the Soldiers of the Corelhelm clan were trembling in fear of their superior. It was an order directly from the King that they couldn’t let any escape and they had failed in doing such a simple job.

"Useless! You all couldn’t even handle a weak girl whose Cultivation was already abolished? Go and find her!" Their superior scolded them, as his voice grew louder in anger.

His head then snapped towards Max, who was still sitting there and watching everything with an amused gaze.

He had already accomplished his goal for coming here, so he was now free to do whatever he wanted.

[They underestimated Aurora and let her escape. Did their attack carry their stupidity or what?]

’You think I’m simply passing time here? My mana is not under my control because of that wound so I need some time before I can activate the Escape Talisman,’ Max said, pulling up the cloth on his mouth.

He was really grateful to Aurora that she remembered it and helped him. In panic and hurry, he had forgotten that Soldiers would see his face and then even he would have to leave the Kingdom.

Even then, he might have been in danger.

’I really need to work on my dumbness!’

Max was pleasantly surprised and was going to ask more, but a sudden jolt of pain from his back stopped him.

He came out of the strange mode as everyone began to move normally and their leader came towards him. Max could feel a strange pressure on him, as though someone was observing his every moment.

The Leader was making sure Max didn’t escape the same way as Aurora.

Max gritted his teeth and asked, ’What do you mean, ’when’? Just do it now!’

Max was speechless and said, ’I would have if this pain wasn’t killing me already.’
