Chapter 776: Chapter 487: A Theatrical Promise_2

Sighing inwardly, Xu Yuan continued in a low voice:

"And there is one thing you seem to have overlooked, Yunqing."

"What?" Li Yunqing raised his eyebrows slightly.

Xu Yuan smiled faintly, gently inserting the Willow Ghost Blade into the ash-mud road beneath his feet:

"As long as she can’t escape, no matter how much she does, it will all end up being us winning twice."

Li Yunqing’s mouth twitched, he coughed lightly, and said:

"Cut the crap, if you can sense those two running away, I guess it was Xu Changge who told you using sound transmission, why not call him out to chase together?"

"He won’t come out."

Xu Yuan glanced around and shook his head slightly, "Unless I am in life-threatening danger, that guy is unlikely to make a move tonight."

Upon hearing this, Li Yunqing clicked his tongue: "Your big brother is really pretentious, is he intentionally making things harder for us?"

Xu Yuan gave him a glance:

"That’s still better than your Crown Prince elder brother."

"....."

After a moment’s eye contact, Li Yunqing sighed and shrugged his shoulders:

"Alright, alright, I know your family loves each other dearly. Since Xu Changge isn’t coming out, what do we do now? Those two must have run some distance by now; I currently can’t sense any presence on my end."

Xu Yuan smiled slightly, his fingertips lightly tapping the handle of the ghost blade inserted into the ground, his eyes shimmering with golden light focused on the wreckage of the coach in front of him:

"I’ve been exploring since I cut down this coach, and now I’m ready."

As he spoke, Xu Yuan, dragging the Willow Ghost Blade, slowly walked toward the coach wreckage.

With his movements, a strange reddish-brown fungal mat began to creep across the ground, swiftly covering the entire coach wreckage in almost the blink of an eye.

In the serene moonlit winter forest, witnessing the eerie flow of Energy Mechanism around him, Li Yunqing’s eyes twitched involuntarily.

He thought of the incidents in Huizhou County and also the dark curtain that obscured the entire sky that day.

While he was lost in thought, Xu Yuan had already walked into the coach wreckage and said in a low voice:

"Although her decoy secret technique is quite exquisite, it’s inevitable that some Energy Mechanism remains when it dissipates, and my spellcraft has already identified this Energy Mechanism...."

At this point, Xu Yuan paused in his speech.

Li Yunqing frowned slightly:

"What’s the matter?"

Xu Yuan looked back, his lips parting slightly with an amused surprise:

"Wow... Yunqing, that woman left us a little present here."

"...."

Upon hearing this, Li Yunqing immediately realized what was about to happen; without a second thought, he abandoned Xu Yuan and turned to run.

The firm ash-mud road cracked beneath his feet as his figure vanished from the spot.

Almost simultaneously,

A complex Formation Pattern, glowing with blue light, appeared out of nowhere beneath the coach!

Seeing this beautiful pattern, Xu Yuan’s lips curved into a smirk.

Then,

"Boom——"

A blue flame rose into the sky, creating a massive mushroom cloud amidst the silent woods....

...

...

...

Work at sunrise and rest at sunset, this was the life of most people in Dayan.

In the rolling hills and fields, without the bright lights of the cities, country folk retired to bed early, and all that remained was the tranquil moonlight and ink-like landscape.

This tranquility lasted for who knows how long, when suddenly a figure tall as a tower flashed through the woods, racing rapidly across the fields.

His massive and sturdy frame seemed out of place, but every step he took in the paddies didn’t even cause a splash or a sound.

The silver-white heavy armor reflected the bright moonlight around, and the gothic-style elaborate gown of the blonde woman in his arms outlined her curvaceous figure, with crystal-embedded hem fluttering in the wind like shining stars in the sky.

The moonlight draped a silver veil over the stunning beauty of the blonde woman’s face, so dazzling it was almost unbearable to gaze upon.

Gazing at the mountain and river scenery of this ancient empire, O’Reilly’s blue eyes shaped into crescents, her hem revealing a stretch of snow-white leg dancing in the wind like a sprite, with a touch of excitement:

"Xides, it’s indeed beautiful here; it feels like paradise compared to the corrupted expanses within our own empire."

A moment of silence followed, then Xiulun’s sonorous voice rang out:

"Aside from that Third Prince and his companion, another extremely powerful person has come tonight, Your Highness."

As his words were heard, the smile on O’Reilly’s face vanished in an instant:

"As boring as ever."

Within her speech, the excited gleam in her eyes dimmed to darkness, as she looked towards the direction from whence she came:

"If there are others besides those two incompetents, why doesn’t he make his move?"

"I do not know of this matter," Xiulun said.

O’Reilly lifted her hand, gathering her golden strands that fluttered in the wind behind her ear, her lips curving into a smile:

"Does he feel he is no match for you?"

"No, that man is very strong," Xiulun responded in a flat yet grave voice. "I fear that even with all my strength, I could only delay him for a short while, Your Highness."

"Oh?"

Upon hearing this, a flash of doubt crossed O’Reilly’s eyes: "In that case, why hasn’t he made a move?"

As she spoke, she extended a slender finger, tapping her cheek as if conversing with herself:

"That would mean he must be the Prince’s protector. Indeed, if the master of that ancient empire wished our death, we would have no chance at survival."

As her words reached this point,

O’Reilly suddenly let out a light laugh; her rosy lips were especially radiant against the night:

"Kikiki~ It seems the decision to kill us was made by those two failures themselves, how ludicrous. What do you think, Xides?"

Xiulun, cradling the lady in a princess carry, spoke from behind his armor:

"I implore you, do not provoke him; please disperse that magical ring, Your Highness."

A hint of surprise flickered in O’Reilly’s beautiful eyes:

"You noticed?"

Xiulun intoned deeply:

"When we departed earlier, I sensed some fluctuations from the magical ring."

"Is that so... It seems my magic ring circuit still has some flaws," O’Reilly murmured softly, her expression revealing a tinge of vexation:

"I fear I must reject your request, for they had already triggered my magical ring twenty minutes ago.

"But rest assured, I know my own strength. The Prince will not be in mortal danger, but he will suffer some injuries, which shall serve as a lesson from the ancient empire’s Prince."

With that, her smile grew more charming:

"After all, coveting a lady’s body is not the act of a gentleman."

"....."

After a brief silence, Xiulun’s stance tensed slightly:

"I will give my life to protect you, Your Highness."

Sensing the knight’s change, O’Reilly’s eyebrows knit together:

"Are you so afraid of that man?"

Xiulun’s voice remained even:

"The day I became your knight, I had already cast aside fear.

"But when that man locked onto me with his energy, I almost lost control and drew my sword."

O’Reilly looked up at the high-hanging moon, exhaling a misty breath:

"Then it seems that person must be at least on the same level as the Crown Prince... What to do now?"

With that said,

O’Reilly’s golden lashes fluttered, and she extended a slender jade finger, hooking it beneath the knight’s armored chin:

"Xides, don’t you think we’re very much like the distressed princess and knight in a play? Misplaced in a foreign land, pursued by killers, finding mutual affection amidst our dependence on each other due to your integrity and loyalty..."

Her voice trailed off, and her beautiful eyes curved into crescents:

"How about this, if you can safely escort me back and make my heart flutter, I shall name you as my First Prince..."

"I am your knight, Your Highness," stated Xiulun, his voice calm and steady.

O’Reilly shook her head slightly in response:

"This is but a promise I offer you, and promises are interesting, are they not?"

"Princess O’Reilly."

A serene and gentle voice came from the sky, interrupting their conversation. Xiulun, moving swiftly, paused briefly and instinctively looked towards where the voice originated from, revealing through the slits of his closed helmet eyes already heavy with solemnity.

Unbeknownst to them, a man adorned in luxurious brocade stood quietly suspended in midair below the full moon.

With the moon at his back, his eyes gleamed with a bewitching golden light as he watched them intently.

He watched the two below, now standing still, his lips curling into a smile:

"If your knight is unwilling, then how about you entrust that promise to me for the time being?"
