Legendary Necromancer: My First Summon is the Undead Dragon -
Chapter 32: Map
Chapter 32: Map
Jake listened to Rion, and he couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for him. "You are a few years younger than me, right? Does the mark have any age limit?" Jake asked.
"From what I heard, no, there is no age limit for who the mark can choose. A hundred-year-old man, a small baby newly born, the mark can choose whoever.
It’s a horror to many families, waking up to see their son or daughter with the mark. But no matter how bad all of this is, no one complains," he said.
"And why’s that? Why don’t they say anything?" Jake asked.
"Because the abyss is real, a threat worse than death. It’s looming over us, and the day there is no guardian to stand in the way, the abyss will come to us, and this world will be lost.
In this day and age, many believe it to be tales that had never happened. But deep down we all know it’s true, because the tainted exist, and the records from past trials tell of how the chosen sometimes come in contact with the abyss," Rion explained.
"So the world bears the lesser pain in order to make sure the greater pain never comes," Jake said.
"Exactly," Rion replied.
"I can’t say I accept either, but it would be foolish to dream of having what you want in life. The best you can do is to work toward it.
I personally want to have my life in my hands and have control over it all," Jake said.
Rion chuckled, then looked at Jake. "Let’s hope you can fight for that," he said and kept walking.
They finally made it to the warehouse. There were two guys seated outside the building. The moment they saw Seer, they got on their feet and bowed.
"Welcome, Boss Lady," they called out.
"Boss Lady?" Jake asked.
"Shove it," she replied with a glare. Jake gave a silly smile and didn’t say anything else. He opened the door of the warehouse and walked inside. It was lit up by the same crystals that were found in the guild—a sign of her money.
Inside the warehouse were racks, shelves, and stacks of all sorts of things, ranging from weapons to rune talismans and more.
Jake already had all that he needed inside his ring, but he didn’t want to use the ring in front of them. None of them had really focused on the ring, so he didn’t bother, but now that they were here, he quickly slid it into his pocket to hide it.
"You can take whatever you need from here—weapons, tools, books, dried preserved meat and plants, whatever it is you can think of.
You never know what you might find outside. Our kingdom, Astria, is massive, and there is a whole lot that isn’t known about it, and more mysteries rise after every Hundred Trials," she said.
’Astria, so this kingdom is Astria,’ Jake heard the name for the first time since he got here.
"Master, you already have all that you need, aside from food, that is," Crypt said to Jake.
"Yeah, but they don’t know that, and I’d like to keep it that way," Jake said. He walked to one of the weapon racks and pulled out a black spear. He didn’t know anything about spears, so he threw it at Crypt.
"Is that a good spear?" he asked.
Crypt took a look at it, gave it a twirl, and threw it back at Jake.
"It’s not great, but it will do fine as your first spear," he said.
"That’s fine," Jake replied.
"Can I have this?" Ophelia came toward Jake with a short sword. She gave it a few swings. Jake immediately panicked and was about to take it from her.
"She is eleven, Master, not a baby. It seems you are quickly growing an overprotective side to you," Drake spoke from inside him, making Jake stop in his tracks.
He forced out a smile. "That’s a nice sword, Ophelia. Do you want to keep it?" he asked.
"Yes, I want to train and be able to fight like Crypt," she said.
"Fine, you can have that, but remember, it’s extremely sharp. Don’t go cutting yourself," he said.
"Again, Master, she is eleven," Drake emphasized that for it to get into Jake.
Jake spent half an hour gathering everything he could need into a storage pouch and then went ahead to store some more secretly into his ring.
When they were done, Seer called them to gather around a table. She rolled out a map of Astria on the table. She took a small wooden cube and placed it on a town in the extreme south—Lumerg.
"That is us right now. The city that we are headed to is Olen," she said. She dropped a cube there as well.
"Olen is a large city, but what’s special about it is the massive underground ruin that has been there ever since three hundred years ago after a trial—and also a massive dungeon.
The journey to Olen will take three days on horseback, but we will be going slower, because the mountains just between Lumerg and Olen have a dungeon, and there are still two more smaller dungeons on the way there.
We’ll also be taking on some quests from the guild. I already have a few filed," she said.
Jake was surprised at how much they had already prepared for this. He was simply tagging along at this point—no real input—but it didn’t matter, as long as he got to level up.
He stared at the map and noticed the massive capital at the center, and to the north was Tempest. Looking at how far it was, it would take half a month for him to get to Tempest by horse.
Seer rolled up her map and placed it aside. "Let’s leave it here for today. We will meet at the gate at the crack of dawn, so you guys can do whatever you want for today," she said.
Jake saw that she was trying to be the leader of this group, but it didn’t really matter to him right now.
