Chapter 87: The Riverbed

Since Rias didn’t seem to have any problems, Kael also didn’t insist on refusing because they really needed a lot of things for their town, and he didn’t want to enter any other race’s territory yet.

’That reminds me, perhaps that guy has advanced a lot with my Unique Skill by now. It’s been more than three years, after all. Heh, enjoy it while you can.’

Kiona turned toward Rias and asked, "Do you have a bed and a few things we can use in our home?"

Rias pondered for a moment before thrusting her hand into the void beside her. Then, she pulled it back, taking out a big midnight-colored bed along with a comfortable cotton bedsheet and cushions.

"Will this do?" Rias asked.

"It’ll rock," Kael said, his eyes shining in excitement and relief. Finally, he would be able to sleep in a comfortable position—and a bed, no less.

Rias nodded and teleported the bed inside their home. Then, she searched her inventory again and took out a mug upon which ’I Hate Mondays’ was written in English.

She blinked in confusion, wondering what was written on it, before she threw it back into her inventory and resumed her search.

"Why don’t you guys check the things out while I go and see how the big boys are doing?" Kael asked, remembering how the twin lions had spent the whole day digging a pathway for the canal.

"Sure!"

With that, Kael dashed off toward the north, following the map he had made earlier in reverse order. It didn’t take long for him to find the twins as they had made huge progress and almost reached the new town area.

Kael stopped atop the tallest tip of a tree and whistled in amazement. The twins had really outdone themselves and created a perfect pathway for the canal.

In the distance, he could see the area being cleared rapidly, with trees and soil thrown to the sides—resources they could use later on. As for the pathway—or rather the riverbed—it was basically around 25 meters wide and about 12 meters deep, which matched perfectly with the twin lions working side by side.

’They really covered a huge distance in just a single day. Impressive!’ Kael had to admit the twins were hard workers. Judging by the progress, he was sure they hadn’t taken much rest the entire day.

But now they were lying on the sides.

It was quite a sight to see two giants sprawled on the ground, covered in mud and dust. Their majestic manes had turned darker from all the dirt sticking to them.

Kael smiled and arrived near them in a few quick jumps, giving them a fright with his sudden entrance. The two of them sprang to their feet and dusted off their bodies.

"Master, it was him who convinced me to rest; otherwise, I was working like a diligent worker," Jon spoke up before anyone else could.

Seth glared at him and gave his back a swift tail smack. "Oh yeah? Who was complaining about food just now?"

"Definitely not me," Jon shook his head, raising even more dust in the air. "I can work for days without eating or drinking."

Kael chuckled and jumped on top of Jon. "Let’s go to the river. We’ll eat fish today."

"Yes!!!"

Jon raised his front legs in the air and roared loudly, shaking the peaceful environment of the forest as birds were once again alerted and fled for their lives.

Kael held onto the furs and chuckled, patting the lion’s back. "Are you sure you didn’t get some horse blood in you?"

"Hmph! As if I’d ever have anything to do with those cowards," Jon snorted in disdain.

Kael raised an eyebrow and turned toward Seth, who chuckled and answered, "Whenever he tried to hunt them, they’d always run away, and he couldn’t catch up to them. To this day, he’s never managed to hunt even a single horse."

As if remembering something, Seth laughed even harder. Jon had a bad feeling about it, so he quickly snapped, "Don’t you dare!!"

"He was also very famous in our tribe with the name ’Hoofless Hunter’ or even ’Soft Paw,’ hahah!"

Jon couldn’t take it anymore and jumped Seth, tumbling him with his massive body. But Seth was also his twin brother, so how could he not have expected such a reaction?

The twins instantly fell into a brawl as they each tried to overpower the other, with Kael enjoying it all from Jon’s back.

After laughing for a while, he said, patting his back, "Alright, that’s enough. Don’t you want to eat? Let’s go."

Jon’s focus instantly shifted toward food as he ignored Seth and raced through the deep riverbed toward the river. His speed was much faster than before, as if reminding Kael that he wasn’t the same weak hunter as before.

Soon, Seth also caught up and joined them. They reached the river and began to wash their bodies thoroughly in the fresh waters of the Northern Frost River.

They had their fun there and also enjoyed hunting some big fish that Kael was sure would taste good. Of course, this was after he made sure there weren’t any dangerous aquatic beasts nearby.

After that, they ran back toward the Great Storm Tree with a good harvest. They also picked up a few fruits and forest delicacies that would add to their celebration of completing day one.

On their way, Kael remembered their previous conversation and smiled. "By the way, how about we call Jon ’Jon the Jogger’ till he actually hunts a horse?"

"Master!!"

"It’s perfect, Master. Hahaha!"

They soon returned to their little town, where Kiona and Rias had already made some preparations, making their house and surroundings even more beautiful.

After setting one more lantern at the edge of the house, Kiona turned back, only to see Kael standing prim and proper.

’I was thinking of having a bath together,’ she grumbled to herself, sending an accusing gaze to the man in question.

As if sensing her gaze, Kael smiled and jumped down from Jon’s back. He said, "We have more work to do tomorrow, so let’s rest early after dinner. We still need to make houses for the twins."

"They don’t need it," Kiona spoke bluntly. "As a Flameclaw Lion, I liked being in the open, so I’m sure they feel the same."

"Yes, Master. We are more comfortable sleeping outside," Seth nodded in agreement.

"That’s even better, then," Kael shrugged. "But we still need to work on a few other houses, so resting early is good."

"Master, can we work at night too?" Jon asked. "We just need to eat and we can go on for another day easily."

They weren’t using much of their mana during the work, so they didn’t feel fatigued and wanted to continue their efforts.

"Sure, I guess. As long as you’re okay with it," Kael said.

He then turned toward Kiona and said, "Go and clean up. I’ll make dinner till then."

"Understood!" Kiona cleaned her hands and nodded, ready to move out. But just then, they heard Rias’s calm voice.

"No. Someone has entered this area... and they’re searching around—especially in the Astral World."
