Chapter 59: Vs The Boss

Kael had a big arsenal of skills that would help him finish off the Nether Wolf quickly, but he wanted to have some fun before doing that.

That was why he was engaging in a physical brawl with this lava-based monster that had a heavy boost in its physical prowess.

’It has Regeneration too!’

Kael noted as he jumped back after delivering a heavy blow to the monster’s shoulder, but under his surprised gaze, the lava rolled out of the fissures and began healing it.

"Ain’t no way I’m letting you regenerate," Kael muttered, jaw hanging open as a heart-shaking roar reverberated in the hall, halting his enemy’s motions as their mana was disrupted.

Using the chance, he shot back toward the Nether Wolf, who recovered quickly and was growling at him. Its eyes filled with fury turned bright red as two thick beams shot out of them, arriving right before Kael.

His senses screamed at him of the danger, but instead of dodging it outright, he shifted slightly as one of the beams aimed at his underbelly—or it was at least supposed to hit there—but the illusory scales shone brighter and held on against the light beam.

As Kael jumped to the side, he noticed cracks forming in the [Aether Scales]. However, he wasn’t worried about that as he simply poured more mana into them and let them swiftly recover.

The Nether Wolf wasn’t happy about the outcome as it howled to the skies, lighting up the entire hall as lava poured out of the ceiling, dropping on everyone’s heads.

It looked as if the end of the world had come as the bright lava descended at an incredible speed, shaking everyone’s heart. Even the minions stopped fighting and raised their heads toward the ceiling.

"Final card, eh?" Kael smiled, unconcerned even when faced with the world-ending sight. He simply raised his right hand on which a silver ball was spiraling and crackling at the same time.

He then pulled his arm back and jerked it forward, throwing the ball at the incoming lava descent, fully confident in this attack.

It was one of his strongest attacks, after all.

[Storm Channeling Core]

He had been pouring his mana into it since the moment he had stepped into the hall, and now it had accumulated enough to showcase its true prowess.

The ball looked insignificant against the lava that filled the sky. The Nether Wolf grunted lightly, standing on its trembling hind legs.

In the next moment, the ball touched the first essence of lava and burst outwards in a never-ending lightning storm that shook the entire hall, throwing off all the pillars.

The lava descent halted under the mighty force of the spiraling storm, as if it had caught all the hot liquid in its palm. Then, it was swiftly assimilated with the storm, making it bright red.

Kiona and her brothers were amazed and mesmerized by the beautiful yet harrowing sight before them. They were surrounded by a powerful spiraling storm filled with hot lava, silver lightning, mighty winds, and the essence of water that was pulling it all together.

Even Kael was surprised by this ridiculously overpowered skill. He hadn’t expected it to perform this well, not to mention it gave him some new information.

’Water? I thought Storm basically meant lightning and wind since I only got those two as affinities,’ he frowned.

[Your soul probably couldn’t handle so much, so it was locked alongside your other skills.]

Kael nodded in understanding and kept his eyes on the storm that was slowly dying out, returning all the mana back to the Astral World.

He cast a glance at the boss and found the big wolf staring at him in disbelief. It surprised him since he expected it to only have hunger and madness.

But when the Nether Wolf howled and once again dashed toward him, despite its weak condition, Kael knew that it really was just a monster.

He easily dodged its attacks, and whenever he couldn’t, he would just let his [Aether Scales] take the damage. All of it was only because he wanted to give his team some battle experience.

It wasn’t like they didn’t have any, but they were fighting so many D-Rank monsters for the first time, which was a necessary experience for them. But if he killed the Nether Wolf, all the wildmutts would disappear.

So, he just ran around the hall, baiting the boss for more attacks. He smirked and said, "You’re really dumb, aren’t you? You clearly had more skills that you could have used to fight a proper battle, but you directly used your final card."

While saying that, he also glanced at his teammates and their battles. The twins were basically toying with the five wildmutts, as if they were just street dogs.

But they were still of the same rank, so the twins couldn’t finish them off quickly. They had killed two of them already though, so it was only a matter of time before their fight ended.

On the other hand, Kiona was having a slightly harder time as she was facing five enemies equal to her in rank. But she hadn’t suffered any injuries yet, so Kael wasn’t worried about her.

However, she did something in the next moment that almost made him stumble. When two wildmutts tried to pincer attack her, she just looked at him with a calm expression and allowed it to happen.

Just as the terrifying fangs were about to seep into her flesh, lightning burst out of her body as she swiftly shifted to the side, letting the two maws eat each other.

She looked back at the bloodied scene and smiled, feeling the power of lightning cloak around her. Then, she drew her claws and slashed open the two of them.

Her speed had grown severalfold, and with that, she easily finished off the two of them. That only left three of the wildmutts, which meant less pressure on her.

With the addition of [Lightning Mantle], her own speed-related skills, and other offensive techniques, she was able to easily finish the three wildmutts.

Kael hurriedly ducked to dodge the dangerous fangs of the Nether Wolf dripping with lava. Without backing away this time, he conjured [Storm Pulse] in one hand and slashed open the lava fissures on the boss’s body.

Before the big guy could realize what he was doing, he sent the pulsating ball of storm hurling into the opened-up areas. The ball wreaked havoc inside the wolf’s body, making it groan in fury, rather than pain.

Kael was going to deliver the final blow when the fissures on the Nether Wolf began to turn brighter. He didn’t think twice before using his swift agility to get out of the Nether Wolf’s range.

In the next moment, the Nether Wolf exploded from the inside out, as the hot lava splattered all over the hall.

Kael poured his mana into the [Aether Scales], making them more real than illusory while also hoping that his leather armor would help him resist the heat.

But he wasn’t that worried because of his [Draconic Regeneration].

Meanwhile, the twin lions also sensed the danger and flared up their manes before the lava could even reach them. Their sister did the same with her hair, as they stood against the rain of lava without any concern on their faces.

They were born for hotness.
