Chapter 57: Hand of Nyraxx

Kael’s surroundings changed, and before he knew it, he was standing in a dark cathedral instead of the dim corridor. He frowned and asked in his mind, ’Alpha, what do you think?’

However, he received no response, which shocked him. He tried again, but the results were the same. He really couldn’t contact Alpha.

As his blood turned cold in terror, he tried to calm his nerves, thinking, ’It’s not an illusion.’

Raising his head, he surveyed the cathedral. It was a majestic structure made of pitch-black stone columns.

Inside this cathedral, each column, arch, and dome’s surface was embedded with the bones of different races. In the middle stood a black feather that was more than a hundred meters tall.

It was as though countless souls were sealed within. In front of the feather, a blurry figure stood there as though he was watching everything with compassion.

This was a cathedral of corpses, but instead of appearing eerie, it was filled with an overwhelming sense of holiness.

Just as Kael caught sight of the blurry figure, he hurriedly lowered his head. His instincts didn’t warn him of danger, but he still relied on his experience to avoid looking directly at the figure, afraid of truly seeing this strange existence.

But it was already too late. Even that single glimpse caused extensive ravings to invade his mind. Cries filled with madness tried to infect his soul—but all of a sudden, purple lightning descended and branched into infinite strands like a great lightning tree.

The madness creeping inside him was instantly pulverized by the lightning, vanishing completely without leaving behind a trace.

However, the lightning also harmed his soul, as it was far too weak to handle such purifying energy. His soul seemed to be on the verge of collapse, but Kael pulled it together.

It was eerily similar to when he had been assimilating Draven’s mana, so he was able to stitch back his collapsing soul.

As his back turned wet with sweat, he opened his eyes and gasped for breath, his eyes red and dry. However, he wasn’t worried about that. He was only relieved when he saw the familiar corridor once again.

"Master? Is everything okay?" Kiona asked as she swiftly came to his side to support his body. Her face contorted with concern and worry as she carefully looked over him.

Kael took a deep breath and responded, "It’s fine. I’m fine. Just tell me, how long?"

Understanding his question, Kiona replied, "You just touched it and then jerked back in this condition."

Kael nodded and said, "Don’t worry about me. Go and prepare for the Boss fight until I recover."

Just then, the entire Nether Fortress shook as a wall of hologram appeared before him.

[3 Days Passed!]

[Reset of First Floor in 2 Minutes!]

[All participants are advised to find safe areas!]

Kael raised an eyebrow and said, "The Floor is about to be reset, so leave me in that room and get ready to clear the whole Nether Fortress. Perhaps, you might get more Soul Power. Also, throw that hand in the room too."

Kiona wanted to protest, but seeing that Kael didn’t want to talk about his condition, she simply sighed and helped him into the former room.

Then, she left with her brothers. As for Kael’s safety, she wasn’t worried. He was the strongest among them and was also confident in his decisions.

As a subordinate, she needed to have confidence in her master and his judgment.

Kael watched them leave and smiled wryly when a domineering masculine voice sounded in his head.

[I close my eyes for one second and you’re already in trouble.]

Kael’s tensed muscles relaxed hearing it and said, "What are you saying, old man? I didn’t know what I was doing."

[I don’t care. You disturbed my slumber.]

"Sorry, sorry, but what was that anyway?" Kael sighed. "Seth was completely fine after touching it, but when I picked it up, I was transferred to that strange cathedral."

[It’s the Hand of Nyraxx—a powerful sealed Artifact from the Third Epoch. It belonged to that bastard.]

"That dull figure I saw?"

[It’s good that you didn’t see ’him’ completely or rather, ’he’ wasn’t willing to show you ’his’ true form.]

Kael noticed how Draven kept emphasizing the word ’him’.

[This probably happened because of your Evolution. Your presence in the Astral World is unique, so you tend to attract powerful existences. I’ll see if I can provide you any concealment, but don’t put too much hope on me.]

Kael’s mood turned somber as he nodded slightly, "I just want you to keep those terrifying existences of your level away from me. Then I’ll deal with any other danger."

[Heh, I’ll see. Also, don’t touch that sealed Artifact. Let those Nyraxx deal with it however they want. It’s of no use to you but they’ll be eternally grateful if you give it back. It’s their heritage.]

"For a sealed being, you know a lot, old man," Kael chuckled and asked. "By the way, I also encountered a Demi-God when I entered the Astral World. Is this also because of this weird attraction you mentioned?"

[No, that was just a coincidence probably. But be careful out there, because it can happen again.]

"Doesn’t that mean I can’t head over to the Astral World anymore?" Kael’s lips twitched as he asked.

[You ask too many useless questions. Just don’t bother those existences, and I’ll make sure they don’t bother you—not yet, at least. Sigh... you won’t even let an old man like me sleep properly.]

"I’d be dead without your support, old man," Kael smiled. "Just do me this favor, and once I free you, I’ll take you on a vacation."

[Save that talk for your little lovers. I’m going to sleep after solving your mess.]

"Oh yeah, one last thing. Do you know anyone named Tharnyx?" Kael asked after some thought.

[Probably. Not that I can remember everyone. Alright, don’t disturb me now and make sure you don’t touch that Hand of Nyraxx unless you want to lose your body... and yourself.]

Although Kael felt that Draven was hiding something, he didn’t press on it. He just nodded and said, "Thanks, and goodnight."

With that, their connection was cut and he finally heard the familiar feminine voice of Alpha in his mind.

[What happened, Master?]

"A lot..."

---

In the Astral World, there was a region cursed with eternal darkness—untouched and uninvaded by all others. There had been no changes in it for a long, long time... until now.

A purple lightning crackled as a deep, ancient, and regal voice transmitted into the storm.

"This isn’t a great way to greet old friends, Draven. What? Did you finally decide to come back?"

"No. You should’ve seen what I’m doing, so I want your help in concealing it. I don’t know anyone better than you when it comes to using the Authority of Concealment."

"You make me curious about your motives. What are you trying to do?"

"Isn’t that obvious?"

"Oh, come on, Draven. You don’t need to pretend before me. I know you can unseal yourself whenever you want, so what are you planning?"

"Heh, heh... I can’t tell you that. Just help me with it. I don’t want ’him’ to know of his existence yet."

"Fine..."
