Chapter 56: New Skills

Kael was very excited about the skills he might have unlocked. After all, he didn’t unlock anything when he reached E-Rank, so naturally, the chances after D-Rank were high.

However, when he looked through the list of his skills, he realized that most were still locked, especially the powerful ones he wanted.

Though, his advancement did unlock a few skills which he could use in the next battles.

His eyes glistened as he looked at the hologram providing descriptions of the skills. They were most of his unlocked skills.

[Unlocked Skills]

[Lightning Mantle (Rare) – Cloaks the user in a storm-charged aura, increasing speed and resistance to physical/magic attacks.]

[Tempest Roar (Epic) – A roar that disrupts enemy mana and weakens nearby beasts. Currently weakened version.]

[Draconic Regeneration (Rare) – Passive regeneration. Restores wounds and mana over time.]

[Storm Pulse (Rare) – Unleashes a short-range burst of compressed lightning to disrupt attacks.]

[Predator’s Instinct (Passive) – Enhances combat intuition. Danger response is near-instant.]

[Beast Sense (Rare) – Temporarily heightens instinct and perception. Grants the ability to detect nearby beast-class threats or prey within a 200-meter radius.]

[Draconic Claw (Unusual) – Turn your hands into draconic claws.]

[Ray of Oblivion (Epic) – Fires a condensed beam of draconic energy that erases matter on contact. Applies ’Oblivion Burn’ that weakens enemy regeneration.]

[Aether Scales (Unusual) – Mana-forged scales that appear on the user’s body, reducing damage taken and reacting to threats. Can be hardened manually for greater defense.]

[Stormborne Wings (Rare) – Summons temporary storm wings, enabling flight and aerial maneuvering for a short duration. Releases a thunderclap on activation.]

[Storm Channeling Core (Rare) – Stores storm and lightning mana over time. Can release as a powerful AoE blast, lightning spear, or speed boost for allies.]

[Draconic Insight (Passive) – Grants instinctive battle analysis. Can predict enemy movements, locate weak points, and imitate techniques if observed repeatedly.]

Aside from some of the passive skills, these were all the unlocked skills he had in total. Even then, it was quite ridiculous for a mere D-Rank to have so many skills.

This wasn’t even counting the skills he could share with his tamed beasts. His relationship with them was getting better, and they had begun to look up to him as their master, which deepened their bonds.

It made the number of skills they could share increase.

Kael took a deep breath to contain his excitement as he thought, ’Finally! I have a long-range offensive skill and also an aerial one. This is what a true advancement should be like.’

He got a total of five skills, and he liked every single one of them, as they just gave a good boost to his combat prowess. With this, he had confidence even in facing C-Rank Beasts.

Before C-Rank, he could still rely on his physical body and many other things to jump ranks when fighting, but it changed due to the qualitative shift that occurred during the advancement to C-Rank.

But even with that, Kael was confident in fighting and even defeating C-Rank monsters or even intelligent beasts.

’Noice! Now I can also search for the hidden boss after defeating the Nether Wolf,’ Kael thought as he began to get familiar with his new skills while occasionally popping the meat from the leather bag.

After a few minutes, Kiona once again entered the room all alone. She had a wry smile while saying, "They’re big and won’t fit in the entrance."

Kael wasn’t surprised hearing that, so he just nodded and stood up. He said, "Let’s go. I’ve finished my tutorial."

Although she didn’t understand what he meant by tutorial, she went along with him as they left the room and found themselves in the dark corridor once again.

’Now that I think about it, their speech and language is similar to mine—or should I say, Earth—so did our connection influence them somehow?’ Kael wondered.

[Perhaps. It is possible, so we can’t rule out the possibility, as I’m also influenced heavily by you. But it could also be that some former Transmigrators have something to do with it.]

’I see.’

Kael turned around and found the two lions sitting in either corner of the corridor. Their golden furs were shining even in the dim light, and their manes were even more domineering now.

They exuded a powerful presence that seemed to influence their surroundings, even though they were just sitting there.

"Good job, boys," Kael clapped and complimented them. "Also, congratulations on getting to D-Rank."

"It’s all thanks to Master," Seth bowed lightly, his domineering aura disappearing before him.

"Yes, I had never thought I would reach D-Rank so quickly," Jon lowered his big head and said. "After all, our top echelon consisted of D-Rank mostly. It was my goal to achieve that, but now I want to go even further."

The twins flashed a ferocious smile and said, "We will reach the power our ancestors once held and even surpass them."

"That’s a minimum as my direct subordinates," Kael scoffed with a smile. "How embarrassing would it be if my direct subordinates were a bunch of C or B Ranks?"

Kiona chuckled hearing that, and the twins also laughed alongside him. The atmosphere turned lively, which was the complete opposite of the creepy Nether Fortress atmosphere.

"Oh yeah, are you sure you destroyed her core properly?" Kael asked.

"Yes, we waited for a few hours to see if there was anything left, but clearly, we had already killed all the Threadlings," Seth reported in a calm voice. "Then, we destroyed her core. Though, we were confused as to why her body didn’t turn into ashes."

"Oh, that’s a good thing then," Kael said, sighing in relief. "The ashes are probably used by the Labyrinth to resurrect the monsters, but as she didn’t turn into ashes, it means she wouldn’t respawn. You did great work there."

The twins were obviously happy with the praise, as they let out a proud roar with their tails swinging rapidly behind them.

’The hell? You’re a lion, not a dog,’ Kael was speechless seeing their actions. "Alright, did you take out the Relic?"

"Yes, but it was way too dangerous, so we had to drag it like this," Seth pointed to his side where the said relic was tied with a makeshift rope.

Kael approached it and crouched down, looking at it in fascination.

It was a disembodied, pale, clawed hand made of obsidian-like material, with eerie glowing runes carved along the veins. It pulsed faintly with a rhythm akin to a heartbeat.

Just when Kael was about to pick it up, Seth’s voice filled with urgency came from behind, "Master, be careful. Once you touch it, you’ll be pulled into deadly illusions. I nearly died in it, but Jon woke me up from it."

’Illusions, huh,’ Kael was even more intrigued after hearing Seth’s warning. It wasn’t that he belittled a Nyraxx’s illusion or that he had grown arrogant because of his Draconic physique.

But he wanted to test his limits so that he could make better plans for future battles that might include illusions.

"Thanks, but you don’t need to worry," Kael said in confidence. "But if something does happen, you all are here to wake me up."

His confidence came from the fact that Seth was able to get out of the illusions before anything serious happened. As he had more resistance, he should be able to get out before anything serious occurred.

Taking a deep breath, he picked up the obsidian hand, and his vision instantly darkened, as his surroundings changed from the corridor to a dark cathedral.
