Chapter 813: Chapter 58: Leaving the City of Ur
Asgard leaned against a corner, using a communication app, and chattered, "Old Jin... What? What? I heard on the news that something big happened in the City of Ur? Oh... oh oh... there is something big... but it’s got nothing to do with us... I’m such a coward, how could I get involved in that stuff... You know? Two First Heavenly Layer masters! Two First Heavenly Layer! We’re not seeking death... That’s it... I’ve got things to do, hanging up..."
Asgard saw Jeanne approaching and quickly ended the call.
Under Asgard’s cover, Jeanne ducked into a surveillance blind spot and swiftly discarded the black fabric wrapped around her. Asgard quickly tossed out a silver-grey dust-proof cloth.
Jeanne held a head-sized package in her hands, wrapped finely with metallic foil to block detection.
Ordinary people seeing this lineup wouldn’t force a scan of anything.
Jeanne asked, "Who were you contacting?"
"Those people from the chamber of commerce." Asgard shrugged. "We didn’t go with them, and soon after they left, they heard there was a big mess here and sent a message to check in."
After all, this place is far from Earth, far from King Aqini, and not even within the Protector’s jurisdiction. Everyone feels a bit more at ease using communication devices. It’s said that neutral city-states have spent considerable effort over the decades building many signal relay stations within asteroids to ensure uninterrupted communication. They’ve also opened some of the traffic for civilian and commercial use.
Additionally, they occasionally provide certain permissions to the White Fleet Prosthetics Followers or Black Ship Righteous Followers to aid these two chivalrous forces in fighting against the government. Operating in this place makes it increasingly difficult for the official army to conduct fights here.
Even if the people from the Hermo Association have already left the City of Ur, they can still communicate with Asgard.
Jeanne looked at Asgard in surprise, "Didn’t expect you to have such a good relationship with those folks..."
"Ha, you must not have any friends who would message to check if you’re safe." Asgard displayed a disdainful expression, "How’s the matter progressing?"
"Everything went smoothly, nothing left to do. Let’s go."
"Oh, impressive..." Asgard clicked his tongue in wonder, "You’ve half accomplished it all. If we were Houndhawks, we’d be ready to enter the senior officer academy now..."
Though Yawgmoth stands high above, he never forgot the hatred from those days.
It’s said that when he defeated the Usurper of the State, the Martial Ancestor felt that many who were dragged into this were not deserving of death, so he captured them alive when conditions allowed. He was waiting for the new regime, a newborn judiciary, or an international tribunal to step in and judge each of them, giving the most appropriate sentences to draw a line under that historical error.
But after Yawgmoth parted ways with the Martial Ancestor, he issued a kill order for these individuals. Even until the system of civilization protection was established, those who remained were still saddled with the death warrant. It’s said a few are still unconfirmed dead or alive.
These people are also unwelcome by the Hero. Even though many are top technical talents...
But what about "talent"?
Ten individuals with aptitude similar to the Martial Ancestor have appeared successively. In theory, what the Martial Ancestor could do, the Martial God could manage in much the same way.
Even disregarding the pseudo-personality mask, there are still quite a few.
Geniuses exist in every era, only many times, they may not grow to fruition.
A few born geniuses stuck in adversity, lacking resources, when they want to raise a banner of rebellion, can only follow the path that consumes the least resources — the Martial Ancestor’s memory.
As for those characters ensnared by the Usurpers of the State, they were originally inferior anyway.
The World Opener’s core group were not only talented but also had immense determination and perseverance. They could use restoring enzymes to repeatedly refine their neuronal networks, persistently over decades, centuries.
Such accumulation over years creates the gap between them and others.
They had such determination and perseverance partly due to the process of struggling with the Martial Ancestor, bearing the weight of all humanity’s life in battling the heavens, and partly because of the pressuring reality of the state-stealing. Ordinary people would find it difficult to encounter such circumstances.
But those technical talents ensnared by the usurpers, even if they were similar to the Martial Ancestor in those days, they had vastly different follow-up events.
After a certain point in time, they became two different types of people altogether.
They didn’t possess the capital that made others dare to take risks to shelter them.
If the Sanctuary’s Great Knight or Knight Commander weren’t too difficult to kidnap, Jeanne wouldn’t have chosen this guy.
The two took a brief detour through the city. After making sure there were no tails, Jeanne and Asgard quickly entered the space elevator to head to the civilian port in space.
Jeanne’s ship was very small, not over twenty meters long, and removing the fuel tank left a very cramped interior space, without even a cockpit, relying solely on mental control. Inside, there was a 3D printer and a maintenance instrument, along with a small fridge storing a few medicines for cultivating inner strength or quickly healing brain injuries.
Jeanne casually tossed the head, then sat cross-legged and levitated mid-air, piloting the spacecraft, cautiously navigating through dense asteroids.
Asgard closed his eyes and rested.
Several hours later, the ship slowly stopped beside a small asteroid.
Jeanne turned the passive detection device to its maximum, then slowly peeled off the foil from the head.
It turned out to be Li Zheyuan, stripped of the speaker on his jaw.
Li Zheyuan glared at Jeanne with an expression of resentment. But Jeanne paid no heed, tidying up her pulled-out docking port, then pulling out two wires to reconnect to a speaker.
By this time, Li Zheyuan had calmed down. He looked at Jeanne and snorted, "You there, that imitation was quite convincing... but aren’t you Xiang Shan? The madman who went crazy from reading Xiang Shan’s memories?"
"Pfft..." Asgard laughed out loud, "Indeed."
Li Zheyuan, on the other hand, showed a bit of a rogueish demeanor. He said, "Didn’t kill me, left me alive, surely you want something? Spit it out then..."
Tumor Xiang Shan’s phantom sat next to the head, legs crossed, hand resting on Li Zheyuan’s head: [This guy seems calm on the surface, but who knows how scared he is inside. That’s just it, eh.]
Jeanne nodded imperceptibly, "I brought you here to ask you for a favor. However, it’s not something only you can do. Even if you don’t want to, we could go to Mars and kidnap a Scientific Knight to do it just the same. You’re simply a more convenient target to kidnap. You should be aware of this."
Li Zheyuan snorted twice, lost in thought.
Jeanne said, "I’m seeking you out because of something that happened more than ten years ago."
