Chapter 452: Chapter 96: Godspeed Court and the Throne

Godspeed Court, the location of the King of Godspeed.

It is also humanity’s largest and fastest spacecraft to date, completely constructed in space. If built on the ground, it wouldn’t be able to break free from the planet’s gravitational pull by itself.

The Godspeed Court is a gigantic space vessel, weighing tens of millions of tons. In terms of size alone, it has surpassed the Emperor Shitian-class space battleships.

In terms of technological level, the Godspeed Court has entirely surpassed the alien spaceship "Argon" discovered by humans 300 years ago.

This spacecraft is tasked with scientific research.

It consistently travels at speeds exceeding 10% of the speed of light, constantly either accelerating or decelerating.

According to intelligence reports, the existence and movement of the Godspeed Court are, in themselves, an impressive engineering experiment.

In such extreme accelerations and decelerations, the overall strength of the ship’s body is severely tested.

When the Godspeed Court passes close to large celestial bodies at high speeds, the gravitational forces it encounters can lead to disastrous consequences in an instant.

According to records, that tiny "scratch" on the lunar surface was the result of the Godspeed Court prototype being disturbed by gravity as it grazed the Moon. The prototype stirred up a large amount of lunar dust and rocks and then exploded in mid-air, forming a faint star ring, with numerous fragments orbiting the Moon.

Most of the Godspeed Court’s time is spent accelerating and decelerating.

However, the Godspeed Court also faces significant restrictions. Below 10% of the speed of light, even the smallest speck of dust poses a lethal threat. As the Godspeed Court advances, it must ramp up its magnetic field to deflect those dust particles, maintain the ability to change direction and be constantly manned, among other things.

Currently, the Godspeed Court does not have the capability to directly fly to Proxima Centauri. It still lacks sufficient fuel.

However, if the return trip is not considered, the Godspeed Court is only a "hair’s breadth" away from interstellar travel.

The distance from the Sun to Alpha Centauri A is just a mere 4.22 light-years. Considering the processes of acceleration and deceleration, the Godspeed Court could even reach there in just twenty to thirty years.

According to TX-0 intelligence, the mission of the King of Godspeed appears to be to find a "route" that allows safe travel at sub-light speeds out of the solar system and consumes less energy.

It’s akin to a "Lightspeed Highway" that continuously changes with the movement of celestial bodies.

In addition, the Godspeed Court has other missions. It carries out cutting-edge research in high-energy physics and astrophysics to test subtle changes in physical phenomena under low-light-speed conditions.

Moreover, the Godspeed Court is also tasked with bypassing the Hero-occupied zones at the edge of the solar system to set up space observatories, among other things.

Of course, there is another very important mission.

The most elite mobile forces of the Protector, under the absolute core command of the King of Godspeed, participate in the suppression of Heroes across the solar system.

The appearance pattern of the King of Godspeed is not hard to guess.

When the Godspeed Court is about to sweep through a region, the King of Godspeed can lead a small team to break away, decelerate alone, and reach the battlefield. After dealing with the enemy, the King of Godspeed would then accelerate again.

He is one of the very few Martial Artists who can accelerate to 16% of light speed within the environmental conditions of the solar system zodiac plane. [This is purely mechanical speed, and not swinging a sword at 16% the speed of light.]

The King of Godspeed would use some external electromagnetic acceleration means to catch up with the Godspeed Court again.

Generally speaking, the faster the King of Godspeed defeats his enemies, the lower his consumption in catching up with the Godspeed Court.

On several occasions, he has even plunged into the atmosphere and ended the battle within a second.

Three years before, the King of Godspeed had attacked Tao Enhai near Jupiter’s universe. Subsequently, the Godspeed Court decelerated and took supply on a designated route between Mercury Orbit and Venus Orbit.

Of course, the method of supply was hardcore too.

At that time, the Godspeed Court would decelerate to about ten thousand kilometers per second. The protectors would transport some materials to this orbit in advance and accelerate to a speed close to that of the Godspeed Court to dock with it.

Sometimes, the protectors would also use laser power transmission to supply the Godspeed Court a bit.

More accurately, it came from the "Throne".

The Throne, the location where Yawgmoth, the Father of A Thousand Machines, currently resided.

It didn’t have a special name, and internally, to show respect, the protectors referred to it as the "Throne".

The true name of the Throne, in fact, was quite unremarkable and not very mysterious. It was called the Dyson Cloud.

Near the solar orbit, countless raw materials mined from Mercury were transported there to be made into huge high-efficiency solar panels and frameworks.

The metal and silicate content of Mercury was very high, making it a premium resource for such materials. From this perspective, it was an excellent mining planet.

Xiang Shan was very surprised when he heard this news.

He couldn’t see the necessity of this move at all.

Human technology couldn’t accomplish the construction of a Dyson Sphere that would encompass a star. The demands on material science had reached a "fantastical" level. Existing theoretical frameworks simply did not have materials that could support such a gigantic structure under normal pressure.

A civilization capable of producing such materials probably wouldn’t need a structure like a Dyson Sphere anymore.

In contrast, the Dyson Cloud was a compromise. It didn’t aim to create a complete Dyson Sphere in one go, but rather to produce numerous gigantic solar panels that would orbit the sun like clouds.

But this was also a losing proposition.

If it was really about needing energy, Jupiter was clearly a better candidate. Jupiter’s mass had already surpassed the minimal threshold of a star, yet it hadn’t initiated nuclear fusion and was very stable. Its gravity was also weaker than the sun’s, making it easier to extract fusion fuel.

According to the narratives before TX-0, Jupiter had still not been mined.

The same rationale applied to Saturn.

If the protectors really lacked energy, they should have first established defenses between Jupiter and Saturn to ensure the stability of the mining operations at Jupiter.

Instead of dismantling Mercury to build a Dyson Cloud.

"No, senior, you seem to have misunderstood something," TX-0 said, "An important point. This thing wasn’t built because the protectors needed it. The Father of A Thousand Machines isn’t interested in what the protectors need. This thing was built because the Father of A Thousand Machines liked it."

Xiang Shan was stunned at that moment.

He looked at Hiroshi Matsushima’s house — not even a good house by the standards of 2020, and asked, "Why?"

"Because he is a supreme god who is beyond trivial pleasures," TX-0 said, "What the Dyson Cloud can do isn’t important, what’s important is that during this process, numerous technical problems arise. These technical problems bring vitality to the Order of Scientific Knights and also make Mr. God happy."

It was at this moment that Xiang Shan came to know that the reason why it was called the Dyson Principle was because Yawgmoth had casually chosen this name when he began building the Dyson Cloud.
