Chapter 425: Chapter 69 Request

Thermal noise, the noise caused in passive electronic components like resistors and feedlines due to the Brownian motion of electrons, exists in all electronic devices and transmission mediums. It is a result of temperature fluctuations and a manifestation of the second law of thermodynamics.

For conventional large computers, thermal noise is merely a bit of noise generated during operation, hardly posing any impact. However, for quantum computers, it is a deadly enemy.

The more sophisticated the device, the more susceptible it becomes.

It’s like electronic components that cannot withstand the radiation that a biological body can endure.

Thermal noise, which is just noise for electronic components, can also cause significant disturbances in quantum bits.

Quantum bits are extremely small and precise.

But, to keep quantum chips running, quantum bits must be kept at temperatures at which they can function.

But this is difficult. The energy levels of quantum bits mean they are severely interfered with by thermal noise produced at temperatures above 300mK. In the early days, to operate a quantum computer, these quantum logic gates had to be in an environment close to absolute zero.

Millikelvin-level operating temperatures are one of the biggest constraints on the development and application of quantum computing.

With the development of technology, humans began seeking ways to allow quantum logic gates to work at higher temperatures.

Researchers in materials science and condensed matter physics are working to recreate superconductivity at higher temperatures, thereby achieving "high-temperature superconductivity" [here high temperature generally refers to 77K, i.e., below -196.15 degrees Celsius], and then finding ways to create superconducting quantum logic gates at this temperature.

Meanwhile, computational science and applied mathematics researchers have been trying to create a new algorithm that can run programs in an environment where "every logic gate is not absolutely reliable and prone to errors."

In Xiang Shan’s era, most of the computing resources in the quantum chips he used were actually spent on self-correcting noise.

By applying both strategies, quantum logic gates could operate at temperatures close to that of liquid nitrogen.

"80K, that’s quite excellent," Xiang Shan remarked.

Long ago, Xiang Shan had used quantum chips cooled by lasers and maintained by dilution refrigerators.

Of course, these devices are now difficult to handle.

But, reaching a mere 80K wasn’t too challenging. Helium-based mini-refrigerators were a well-developed technology.

Xiang Shan certainly remembered this.

But the only problem was...

There might not necessarily be space to install it in his prosthetic body.

Xiang Shan had not anticipated encountering quantum chips now, and his prosthetic body’s design had initially been inadequate. Although it wasn’t impossible to modify, restructuring was still necessary.

The critical part was the heat dissipation.

The essence of the cooling system is to consume the total energy of heat from the target space or to discharge the total energy of heat from the target space—of course, the difference between these two perspectives is not significant. According to the second law of thermodynamics, the heat discharged by the cooling system will always be more than the heat it consumes from the target space.

In other words, to maintain low temperatures in the chip, continuous heat discharge is necessary.

And there was already a high-temperature fission furnace inside him, constantly generating heat.

Increase any further, and the concealment of the machine becomes a significant issue.

Xiang Shan certainly didn’t want to be targeted by something as simplistic as thermal imaging.

Of course, there were ways to circumvent this issue, such as temporarily storing internal waste heat in substances with very high specific heat capacities and concentrating the heat discharge when exposed.

But this method had its silences too.

If his prosthetic body became immobile due to overheating, it wouldn’t be worth it.

Xiang Shan looked at the storage container the size of a palm mineral water bottle and pondered for a long while, almost losing awareness of his surroundings. It wasn’t until Gaoqiao Ziyi reminded him that he snapped back and said, "Seeing this thing, I got so excited that I almost forgot my surroundings."

"It’s only human," Gaoqiao Ziyi said.

Xiang Shan nodded.

Ai Tielang was still in a state of shock.

"Mobile Cavalry... are they... so easy to kill..."

To most warriors, the Mobile Cavalry ranks as truly terrifying. Except for the Protector Lords from another First Layer Heavenly Land, these hounds were the most vicious. Ai Tielang was no longer very afraid of a single Ranger, but several Mobile Cavalry together could still pose a significant threat.

But looking at this senior’s skill...

Those fifteen isotope batteries seem to have been seized in the same battle.

And that battle must have involved at least twenty to thirty Mobile Cavalry.

—Probably three years ago... when many warriors were together... maybe it could really happen...

Ai Tielang thought so.

Xiang Shan secured the quantum chip and patted his shoulder, "Speaking of which, comrade Ai, when do we have time to wander in the wilderness?"

"Ah... but I..."

"Oh, you have Mobile Cavalry pursuing you," Xiang Shan nodded, "I can handle that for you. As for the payment, we could use the isotope batteries from those Mobile Cavalry. What do you think?"

His implication was clear, he could forsake other spoils of war.

The assembly rate of Sonicon Blades among these local Mobile Cavalry on Earth was less than five percent, which was in stark contrast to the subordinates of King Aqini, where the assembly rate exceeded one-third.

Xiang Shan didn’t expect those Mobile Cavalry to contribute good materials besides isotope batteries.

Ai Tielang was pleased and said, "How can I accept this... this..."

It seems that after meeting this Old Senior, they were all a bit lost for words.

Xiang Shan folded his arms, "Hmm, feeling embarrassed, eh? No worries, no worries. Actually, I’m also hoping my fellow comrades can lend a hand."

A thought flashed through Gaoqiao Ziyi’s mind, "Just as expected." She bowed to Xiang Shan, "Senior, please speak freely. As long as it’s something the Chaotic Blade Sect can achieve..."

Xiang Shan stood up, "No, actually, I don’t expect you all to risk your necks just for a few batteries. It’s really just a small favor."

"I’m planning to make a trip to Paradox City sometime in the next few years. Of course, I don’t want to die, I want to come out alive. I even want to bring the Ninth Martial God out with me."

"However, the legion guarding the Ninth Martial God in Paradox City won’t be distracted, because with so many of them, they only need to focus on the tiny area where the Ninth Martial God is. And numbers, they are the natural enemy of all martial arts."

"So, I merely ask all of you to stand outside Paradox City for a little while when I rush in."
