Legend of the Cyber Heroes
Chapter 264 - 264 44 - Still Have an English Name

264: Chapter 44 – Still Have an English Name 264: Chapter 44 – Still Have an English Name In the depths of the sandstorm, Yuan Wenren suddenly stood up on the roof of the vehicle, raised the long spear in her hand, and aimed it not far away.

“What’s wrong?” Yuki asked through the communication inside the vehicle.

“Sonicon signal,” Yuan Wenren replied.

“You might consider switching to a Hero’s prosthetic ear, little brother.

It would be good for you to adapt in advance.”

Just now, Yuan Wenren had heard a set of sonicon signals.

These signals vibrated at a frequency inaudible to Natural Persons, penetrating the sand, and were captured by Yuan Wenren.

A few seconds later, Yuan Wenren put down the rifle.

The firearm she was using was equipped with a grenade launcher at the front, containing a high-explosive bomb she had treasured for a long time.

She had obtained it after assassinating an Official Army Sniper and only had two such precious rounds.

Fortunately, she did not need to use these hard-earned munitions this time.

Yuan Wenren listened for a moment and realized the sonicon signal matched the agreed-upon signal.

She took out a smaller handgun from her waist and fired a shot at the empty space three meters away.

Suddenly, a vehicle appeared at the bullet’s impact point.

Jader emerged from the War Chariot and said, “Great Hero.”

Yuan Wenren was delighted, “So it’s Senior Jader…

Are these Heroes inside?”

Yuan Wenren was referring to the Underground Pixiu leaning on Jader’s shoulder.

“Yes, thanks for the assistance,” the Underground Pixiu sincerely thanked.

Yuan Wenren wanted to inquire further, but Jader waved his hand, “This sandstorm will stop soon.

We must find a hiding place while it still rages.

There are more important matters to attend to, let’s talk about the others later.”

“Right here will do,” the Underground Pixiu jumped down from Jader’s shoulder and began digging in the ground.

His hands and feet were not suited for walking, but he was exceptionally fast at digging.

Soon, a one-meter-deep trench appeared on the ground.

Jader took out the Prosthetic Body of Xing Yi from the War Chariot.

Essential supplies like batteries had already been removed.

Only the External Armor remained on the limbs, and the internal framework and mechanics had been disassembled.

Apart from a battered but relatively intact shell, this Prosthetic Body had only a head and spine left.

“Ah…” Yuan Wenren exclaimed.

“Southern Dipper Deadly Marksman, Xing Yi.

My old friend,” Jader said.

“You have the detailed coordinates recorded, right?

Down to the second precision.

Also, call that kid Yuki out.”

Yuan Wenren nodded and reported a set of coordinates.

Initially, Yuan Wenren, Xiang Shan, and Jader had agreed on a rendezvous point, but it was only a general set of coordinates.

After arriving nearby, Jader would use sonicon signals to search as originally agreed, and upon receiving the signal and ensuring all was clear, Yuan Wenren would then reveal her position.

During this period, the sandstorm occasionally had some “gaps.” These gaps were not enough for the Official Army to use the weather to encircle the Heroes, but they were sufficient for Yuan Wenren to observe astronomical phenomena.

She had the standard time for a specific longitude and with slight astronomical data, she could determine her precise coordinates.

As Jader placed the remains of Xing Yi in the grave, everyone else arrived.

Even Lucius, who was inconvenient to move, was placed by Jader at the side of the War Chariot.

Jader recorded the coordinates and shared them with all the Heroes.

This wasn’t just any act.

This group of coordinates, witnessed by those who had seen Xing Yi’s last battle, would be uploaded into the network of the Heroes, letting the world remember that a remarkable person was buried here.

Ah, by the way, this act had another meaning.

If one day, a Hero really reached a crisis due to a lack of parts, they could attempt to dig the buried site of their predecessors.

You couldn’t expect much useful material to be left—as Heroes were all short on supplies, critically needed items would definitely be removed before burial—; it couldn’t add much, but sometimes it could provide timely help.

All Heroes inherently understood this rule.

Still, very few ever acted on it.

It is said that in ancient times, this act held another layer of meaning—that the ancestors had agreed, when the day of justice and human freedom arrives, the Hero bones buried in the ground would be melted into a monument, to be placed in synchronous orbit.

Today’s Heroes no longer believed this could be achieved.

But Jader still placed a hand between his eyes, “For now, let’s leave it here, old friend.

Don’t mind the simplicity of the place; many aren’t even afforded this much.

Your noble deeds forever shine in our hearts.”

He paused, then solemnly said, “I promise, a thousand years hence, your valor shall still be proclaimed.”

The Underground Pixiu quickly covered up the dirt.

Then, everyone soon returned to the vehicle.

The funeral of a Hero is often brief enough for just a few words.

Of course, most Heroes don’t need a funeral.

Their final scene in life is to be blown to bits in an explosion.

This must be the second time Yuki encountered such a strange scene.

Within the common knowledge of today’s humans, there was no word for “funeral.” When a person died, the body was just a shell, a lifeless resource, just an ordinary object with no sanctity.

He didn’t quite understand why it was necessary to solemnly bury a metal shell underground.

Why could those predecessors attain some form of spiritual relief through this act?

For Yuki, this process was as magical as magic itself.

Yuan Wenren patted the new Hero on the shoulder from behind, “Can’t make sense of it?”

Yuki shook his head.

Although he did not know the significance of the matter, Jader’s words deeply impacted his thoughts.

It was only minutes later that he asked, “Where is Master?”

“He…” the Underground Pixiu, after some brief exchanges, now knew that this young man was the newly recruited disciple of the “Nameless Hero.” He was unsure of how to explain.

According to the original plan, Bai Man was supposed to break through with them.

But now, neither Bai Man had appeared, nor had that “Nameless Hero” who was trapped and surrounded.

He truly did not know what to say.

Just at that moment, another sonar signal suddenly appeared.

The Underground Pixiu exchanged glances with Jader.

Jader quickly leaped up and dashed into the sandstorm.

Seconds later, a giant appeared, dragging another person in front of everyone.

Xiang Shan was held in Bai Man’s grip.

Xiang Shan’s hands dangled, still tightly holding the Sonicon Blade.

This posture reminded Lucius of what Xing Yi looked after death, making him cry out in shock.

But Jader shook his head, “He’s alive, just passed out.”

The group then helped Xiang Shan remove his Sonicon Blade and helped him sheathe the much deteriorated blade back into its scabbard—it was a necessary action.

When Bai Man accelerated with Xiang Shan, Xiang Shan had no chance to sheathe his blade.

Thus, the Sonicon Blade had moved at supersonic speed for quite some time through the air filled with sharp solid particles, nearly ruining the blade.

But they surely couldn’t forsake the chance to escape just for the sake of a blade, right?

During this process, everyone also listened to Bai Man narrating what had happened on his end.

“What?

So the Nameless Hero actually went over there?

And he even struck the Lord several times?” exclaimed the Underground Pixiu.

Bai Man nodded.

The strikes that Xiang Shan delivered were extremely vital.

They had damaged Fraser’s External Armor’s structure, greatly weakening its durability.

The consecutive strikes from Bai Man also ruined Fraser’s aerodynamic form.

If Fraser dared to chase Bai Man at several times the speed of sound, he wouldn’t need anyone else’s intervention; his prosthetic body would self-destruct.

And if Fraser didn’t chase, the mobility of the other units from the Protector Troops couldn’t keep up either.

Afterward, Bai Man brought Xiang Shan to this vicinity.

Of course, this didn’t mean that Xiang Shan could now face Fraser one-on-one and emerge victorious.

Without Bai Man’s interference, a series of heavy punches from Fraser could have pulverized Xiang Shan.

But Xiang Shan had indeed seized a fleeting opportunity and accomplished an assassination that reversed their roles of strong and weak.

“After having such surgery, to still have the energy for intense combat…” Lucius marveled, “This senior really…

really is incredible.”

Yuki looked worried: “But when will Master wake up?”

“He hasn’t suffered visible injuries; there shouldn’t be any serious issues,” Bai Man comforted him, then added, “The end of the storm will pass by here in half an hour.

We will be exposed then.

We can’t stay put.

Now, we have to move to the next location.”

…………………………………

March 2039, Beiping Ditan Hospital, underground parking lot.

Director Tao, wearing thick gloves, leaned back in the passenger seat, his neck against the headrest, idly looking at the car roof.

The woman in the driver’s seat leaned over, her nose nudging his face: “Why so gloomy?

You might get a new job today.”

“No,” Tao Enhai shook his head, a somewhat vacant smile appearing on his pale face: “I was just thinking that I might not enjoy the privilege of you driving me to work anymore.

I quite liked being the Director of Orthopedics.”

“Then just stay on.

Whatever makes you happy!” the woman laughed, “It’s not mandated that the Director of Orthopedics must perform every surgery personally.

You could continue guiding others in surgery, and transitioning to something else is also an option.”

Tao Enhai fell silent for a moment, hesitating: “Should I cancel it then?

It might not look good though.

The Eastern Alliance’s R&D department has come over twice already.

This time, I approached them myself.

Telling them now ‘please go back’ wouldn’t be very nice.”

The woman tenderly adjusted Tao Enhai’s collar: “You decide for yourself.”

Tao Enhai shook his head and reached for the door, but whether the glove was too thick or his fingers weren’t nimble enough, his hand slipped off the car door handle.

Tao Enhai paused.

The woman quickly crossed over him, opened the car door, then carefully watched him, without saying a word.

Tao Enhai stared blankly in the car for a moment, until someone came to the adjacent parking spot, then he got out of the car.

But just then, he was called upon.

“Excuse me, are you Dr.

Tao Enhai?”
