Chapter 94: 94: Make it up to me- Part 1

Liam kept his attention on the mini-boss as he fought it. The boss attacked hard and fast, his breath almost hitting Liam before Liam made calculations to dodge it.

He adjusted his stance, weaving through the creature’s attacks with fluid ease. His strikes were calculated—strong enough to wound but not enough to make it obvious that he was holding back.

He let the battle drag on, pushing himself to refine his control.

Everything was going smoothly. Until—

Liam suddenly felt a shift in the air.

It was subtle, barely noticeable, but he knew exactly what it was.

Darius was using magic.

Liam tensed as a faint pulse of energy shot toward the battlefield.

It wasn’t aimed directly at him, but at the mini-boss.

The attack itself was weak—barely enough to register as an actual offensive spell. But Liam immediately realized what Darius was trying to do.

It wasn’t meant to harm. It was meant to enrage.

The mini-boss, already agitated by the fight, suddenly froze. Its glowing red eyes flickered erratically as it absorbed the foreign magic.

Then, in an instant, it let out a deafening roar.

Its entire body convulsed, its muscles expanding as it entered a berserk state.

Liam narrowed his eyes.

That spell... against a real C-class or even a B-class, this would have been a death sentence since it made the mini-boss harder to deal with. The mini-boss was now fully enraged, its attack patterns becoming erratic and unpredictable.

If Liam hadn’t already been strong enough to handle it, this would have turned into a massacre.

Darius was testing him.

Liam’s expression darkened.

So that’s how he wants to play it, huh?

Fine.

If Darius wanted to see what he was capable of, then Liam would make sure to give him a show.

Without hesitation, Liam surged forward, his body moving like a shadow as he dodged the mini-boss’s frenzied attacks. His magic flared around him, invisible to most but completely under his control.

He suppressed his presence just enough to make it seem like he was struggling, allowing the mini-boss to push him back slightly.

He let himself get grazed, his clothes tearing as the creature’s claws barely missed his skin.

To an observer, it would look like a desperate battle.

To Liam, it was a carefully orchestrated performance.

His mind worked quickly, analyzing the monster’s movements, predicting its next attack even as he feigned exhaustion.

Then, in one swift motion, he countered.

His blade-like magic sliced through the beast’s exposed joints, severing the tendons that kept it moving.

The mini-boss let out a guttural growl, its movements slowing as Liam delivered a final blow to its core.

The creature collapsed, its massive form hitting the ground with a resounding thud.

Liam exhaled, wiping nonexistent sweat from his brow as he turned slightly, his gaze locking onto the spot where Darius was hiding.

For a brief second, the two stared at each other.

Then, Darius smirked.

"Well, well..."

He stepped out of the shadows, his eyes gleaming with interest.

"That was quite the display."

Liam didn’t respond immediately. He simply rolled his shoulders, pretending to be more exhausted than he actually was.

"What do you want?" Liam finally asked, his tone flat.

Darius chuckled but his expression looked startled by the display he saw.

"I wanted to see how you’d handle yourself. And I have to say... you didn’t disappoint"

He admitted.

Liam crossed his arms.

"You interfered."

Darius tilted his head.

"Did I?"

Liam’s gaze sharpened.

"That magic you used—it was designed to enrage the mini-boss. If I hadn’t been strong enough, I’d be dead right now."

Darius shrugged, his smirk never fading.

"But you are strong enough. And that’s exactly why I did it."

Liam felt his irritation grow.

Darius wasn’t just testing him—he was playing with him.

The system drowned out Liam’s feelings for the most part, but the anger and annoyance Liam felt took a little more effort to bury.

______

Darius felt his breath hitch as he stared at the fallen mini-boss.

His plan had been so simple—push the boss into a berserk state and let it overwhelm Liam just enough to make him desperate.

Then, at the last moment, Darius would step in as the heroic savior, take down the boss with minimal effort, and leave Liam awed by his strength.

Once Liam saw how powerful Darius was, he would naturally want to learn from him. It would be the perfect way to acquire a talented disciple.

But instead, Liam had crushed the mini-boss.

Not only had he defeated it, but he had done so with alarming efficiency—his movements calculated, his magic controlled to a frightening degree. And worst of all... Liam knew.

Darius could see it in the way Liam was looking at him now. That cold, knowing gaze that sent an uncomfortable chill down his spine.

Liam knew Darius had interfered.

And yet, he hadn’t retaliated....yet

He hadn’t lashed out, hadn’t called Darius out on his actions, hadn’t even looked angry.

That, more than anything, put Darius on edge.

He needed to get away. Now.

Darius took a step back, ready to excuse himself from the conversation, but before he could move

A hand clamped down on his shoulder and it felt like a rock that forced Darius to stop thinking.

Darius froze.

Liam’s grip was firm, almost too firm, like a warning in itself. And when Darius turned his head slightly, he saw it—

That smile.

Liam’s lips were curved upward, but there was no warmth in his expression. His eyes, sharp and unreadable, were fixed on Darius with an intensity that made his skin crawl.

"Why don’t we hunt together?" Liam asked, his voice smooth but carrying an unmistakable edge.

Darius knew an invitation when he heard one.

And he also knew a threat when he heard one.

Liam wasn’t asking. He was telling him what they were going to do. Darius had no say in this matter.

Especially not after the shit he had pulled through. It would be better to let Liam do whatever he wanted and get his revenge.
