Chapter 90: 90: B-class dungeon- Part 1

Liam’s silence was enough of an answer that he really did not know.

Ethan let out a mocking laugh before answering.

"This is one of the most famous training dungeons for magicians! People come here all the time to test themselves, improve their combat skills, and—"

"Ethan! Enough."

Zane cut in with a sigh.

Ethan clicked his tongue but shut up, though the smug look on his face remained.

Zane turned back to Liam with a more patient expression.

"This dungeon isn’t just about clearing monsters. It’s designed for experience. Only one party is allowed to challenge the boss at a time, and the others either have to wait their turn or... fight for it. Special measures are taken to ensure that the boss does not die."

Liam’s gaze swept over the gathered parties. Now it made sense why no one looked happy to see anyone else here.

"So, if two groups want to take on the boss at the same time..."

Liam mused.

"They duel for the right. Sometimes it’s a friendly match. Other times, not so much. It’s just a good place to compete and increase one’s power."

Zane confirmed.

Liam huffed.

"Sounds annoying."

"It can be. But it’s good training. There are not many official places where different magicians can fight against each other outside ranked matches."

Zane admitted.

Elaine suddenly spoke up, her voice quieter than her brother’s but firm.

"We usually try to avoid unnecessary fights, but there’s always someone who wants to challenge us."

Liam nodded, understanding the situation.

Before anything else could be said, an arrogant-sounding voice called out.

"Well, well, look who showed up again. The so-called ’rising talents.’"

Liam turned his head slightly to see a group approaching. They looked experienced, their armor polished and weapons well-maintained. At their front was a tall, blond-haired man with a cocky smirk.

Zane sighed, already looking exhausted.

"Not them again..."

Ethan scowled.

"Of course it’s them. We just had to run into these guys."

Elaine looked nervous, glancing at Zane for guidance.

Liam raised an eyebrow.

"Who are they?"

Zane gave him a side glance.

"A rival party. They like to cause trouble."

The blond-haired leader of the opposing group stopped in front of them, arms crossed.

"Going for another dungeon run, Aldric? Thought you’d learned your lesson last time."

Zane’s polite smile remained, but there was an edge to his tone.

"We’re just here to train, same as everyone else."

The blond man’s gaze flickered over to Liam, who he hadn’t seen before.

"And who’s this? A new recruit?"

Liam met his gaze evenly.

"Not interested."

That seemed to catch the man off guard, but he quickly recovered, chuckling.

"Oh? You’ve got an attitude. I like that."

Ethan bristled.

"Back off, Darius."

Darius smirked.

"Relax, kid. No need to get so worked up. I was just wondering if your little party was finally getting serious. You up for a challenge, newcomer? Or are you just another tag-along?"

His gaze flicked back to Liam.

Liam tilted his head slightly.

"Depends. What do you want?"

Darius’s smirk widened.

"A little wager. If your group can beat us to the boss, we’ll step aside and let you take it on first. But if we win...You owe us a favor"

He grinned at Elaine, who shrank back. That look seemed interested in the young female, but not in a sexual way...which was somehow even creepier to think about.

Zane immediately stepped forward, his expression turning hard.

"Not happening."

Darius chuckled.

"Figured as much. No fun, as always, Aldric. Well, if you ever get tired of these guys, you know where to find us. And you, Elaine - if you want to get better, the stop hanging around these losers and come find me."

He gave Liam and Elaine one last assessing glance.

With that, Darius and his group turned and walked off.

Ethan clenched his fists.

"I hate that guy."

Elaine looked relieved but still worried.

"He’s going to cause problems for us again, isn’t he?"

Zane sighed before he turned to Liam with an almost sorry expression on his face.

"Probably. Sorry about that."

Liam shrugged.

"Not my problem."

Zane chuckled.

"Not yet, at least. But you should be careful. I have a feeling that you would get targeted because you chose to stick with us for now."

Zane spoke in a sorry voice, but Liam did not feel the same tension as everyone else did.

With the tension somewhat settled, they turned their focus back to the dungeon entrance.

"Let’s go,"

Zane said.

"Time to put our skills to the test."

Liam smirked slightly.

"Finally."

With that, they stepped into the dungeon, leaving the competition behind—for now.

______

As Liam stepped into the forest-type dungeon, the dense canopy above cast a greenish hue over everything. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and the rustling of leaves.

His party wasted no time, moving deeper into the wilderness with the intent to hunt for experience.

The monsters here were a step up from the C-class dungeon, their movements quicker, their instincts sharper—but nothing Liam couldn’t handle.

His eyes scanned the surroundings, waiting for a target to present itself.

The first monster emerged from the underbrush—a large, agile beast with claws like daggers and fur that blended perfectly with the forest floor.

Liam’s reflexes kicked in immediately. With a swift motion, he unsheathed his weapon and took it down in a matter of seconds, his strikes precise and efficient.

He barely broke a sweat.

However, as the others engaged with their own monsters, it became evident they weren’t as prepared.

Zane was struggling to keep up with his opponent’s swift attacks, and Ethan’s was having a hard time fighting keeping monsters at bay.

Even Elaine, despite her skills, was hesitating, unsure how to approach her monster without getting overwhelmed.

It soon became clear to Liam why Zane had asked for his help - it was because he really needed it in order to survive this dungeon.

"Hey Liam, are these humans suicidal? Why would they want to come to this dungeon when they cannot handle it?"

Asger asked and Liam wondered the same thing.
