Chapter 81: 81: Rudeness will not be tolerated - Part 1

For the final portion of the exam, Liam was taken to an arena-like chamber, where he would have to fight a summoned construct. The construct was designed to mimic the attacks of a C-level boss, testing both defensive and offensive capabilities.

Liam squared his shoulders as the opponent materialized in front of him—a humanoid figure made of glowing blue energy, wielding a staff crackling with power.

"You may begin."

The proctor announced.

The construct wasted no time, launching a barrage of energy bolts toward him.

Liam dodged smoothly, his body moving like water. He raised a barrier just in time to deflect an incoming blast, the impact sending a ripple through the air.

His movements were calculated, efficient. He countered with a sharp burst of wind magic, knocking the construct off balance before following up with a concentrated burst of mana that sent it crashing into the wall.

It tried to recover, summoning a chain of magical sigils to restrain him.

Liam responded instantly. He used just enough magic to pass as average.

A pulse of his own magic disrupted the chains before they could tighten around him. He lunged forward, striking with a precise, condensed wave of energy that shattered the construct’s form into flickering particles.

The match was over in seconds.

Silence filled the chamber.

The examiners exchanged glances. Some seemed impressed, while others looked skeptical.

"A bit too fast."

One of them murmured.

"Maybe the construct was faulty?"

Another suggested.

The lead examiner, however, said nothing. He simply observed Liam with unreadable eyes before finally nodding.

"The exam is concluded. You will receive your results within the hour."

Liam bowed his head slightly in acknowledgment before exiting the chamber.

As he stepped into the waiting area, Asger was already lounging on one of the benches, looking thoroughly bored.

"Done already? Took you long enough."

The half-dragon yawned, stretching his arms behind his head. It looked funny since Asger was posing to be an ordinary Lizard familiar.

Liam rolled his eyes.

"Not everyone can nap through important moments, Asger."

Asger smirked but didn’t argue. Instead, he eyed Liam curiously.

"How did it go?"

Liam exhaled.

"I had one close call, but I think I covered it up."

Asger raised an eyebrow.

"Just one? I’m surprised."

Before Liam could respond, a small chime echoed through the hall. A floating crystal orb appeared before him, displaying the words:

[Exam Results Ready: Please Report to the Main Office]

Liam stood, stretching slightly.

"Well, time to see if I passed."

Asger grinned.

"If you didn’t, then this whole system must be rigged."

Liam chuckled but remained cautious. He knew he had done well—but the real question was whether he had done too well.

With a deep breath, he stepped forward to receive his final evaluation.

______

Liam stepped inside the highly advanced office in his almost-tattered clothes. His mask secured his hidden identity while also giving him an air of mystery around him.

He knew he was gathering a lot of attention from the people around him, but he did not care when he was in his false get-up. Rather, it felt nice to be the center of attention.

’I could get used to this. Maybe it will not be a bad idea to show off once in a while and keep people on their toes.’

As soon as that thought crossed Liam’s mind, he knew that he had changed a lot from his past self. He felt more confident and self-assured.

"I am here for my results. May I see what I scored?"

Liam asked the receptionist, and his confidence oozed from his words.

But unlike him, the receptionist did not look as happy or excited to see him and his results. She reached over to the computer and pulled out his results with an almost bored expression on her face.

"Here you go, your new classification. You were deemed to be suitable for B-class, but due to a lack of experience, we decided to put you into C-class for now. I will update your profile now, so please stand still."

The lady sounded almost irritated as she brought up Liam’s data in the system and changed his classification from D-class to C-class.

[Nico Vale. C-Class magician. Affiliation: Undefined]

The system gave Liam a clear image of his current self, and Liam felt satisfied. He had aimed to do this, and he had succeeded.

But there was one thing that irked him, and it was the dismissive attitude of the people around him. They did not even seem interested in Liam, and for the first time in his life, it made Liam feel annoyed.

"Here, Mister Vale, your papers. Keep them secured because you will have to re-testify if you want them again."

The receptionist pushed the papers toward Liam with unnecessary force. It caused the papers to fly, but there was not a single word of apology from the woman in front of him.

’System, do you mind checking who this bastard thinks she is? I don’t like her attitude toward me.’

Liam felt humiliated and enraged, and it was lucky for the woman and the association that the system had dulled his emotions.

Otherwise, an incident would have happened by now.

[Affirmative. Checking. Match found.

Person’s name: Nue Rob.

Class: B-class

Age: 28

Potential: Average]

The woman looked even more average once Liam had a look at her stats, but her B-class classification seemed to be the reason she was looking down at Liam right now.

"What’s wrong? If you are done, then get going now. Can’t you see that you are holding everyone back as well? Ugh, this is why I hate low-class, cocky people. They don’t know where they stand."

The woman complained as she tried to make Liam leave with a gesture. She was being rude, and Liam felt the need to do something.

"Oi, human, I know you are angry and thinking about doing something. You should stop holding back and do it. After all, that is why you had this false identity made in the first place. No one will be able to pin the blame on you."

Asger encouraged.
