The alarm rang loudly, and it took everything in Liam’s power not to throw it toward the wall and let it break.

It felt irritating, and the noise rang inside Liam’s ears. He felt like his head would split if he continued listening to the noise any longer, so he quickly woke himself up, sat up in bed, and turned off the alarm.

It took Liam a considerable amount of mental strength to stop himself from reaching across the bed and chucking his phone against the wall.

Only his patience—and the fact that he would regret it later—made it possible for Liam to keep his cool and force his body to stand up.

His first actions of the day were to refresh himself, followed by his morning routine and training. By the time Liam was ready to head out to work, he felt mentally exhausted. But his body was awake and ready to go.

As soon as Liam reached work, he got a message on his phone and decided to check it out.

Bianca’s name flashed across the screen along with her text.

[Hey, boss, guess what? We are done wrapping up the previous case with the Temple of Lunaris. This means Elder Elias and I can come home in a few days. We had to stay behind extra long because the council wanted us to handle a few more things.

Anyway, take care and don’t miss us too much.

P.S.: Good luck with Aria at work. I heard she got discharged earlier than us and will be back today.]

That simple message sent shivers down Liam’s spine, and he suddenly didn’t want to enter his workplace. Just thinking about Aria waiting for him inside made Liam want to turn around and find a way back home.

No, let’s not be a coward. I’m sure things will be fine.

Liam entered the shop and immediately spotted Aria. She had a box in her hands, and Lucas, his boss, looked nervous about it.

"L-Let’s talk about this, Aria! How about you put that box down now? I-I can handle this—"

"No! I can do this. I’m an employee of this shop as well. If Liam can do this kind of work, then so can I. Let me show you—"

Aria assured him, and Liam’s instincts quickly told him to take a step back.

He watched as Aria took a single step before her feet stopped coordinating—and she crashed. But her look of surprise was nothing compared to Lucas’s devastated face as he watched the box break.

Something black and oozy immediately started filling the area, and it felt heavy.

"Oh no! Everyone, get out right now. This magic is not good for the human body!"

Lucas yelled before he grabbed Aria and dragged her out. Liam also rushed outside before the black smoke filled the shop until nothing could be seen from the inside.

"Oh no! My poor shop! Ugh, it had to be that artifact, of all things, that broke. I won’t be able to open the shop for a few days because of this."

Lucas moaned in shock and grief as he looked at his shop.

He looked devastated, and Liam quickly glanced at Aria to check her reaction. But, as he expected, she didn’t seem to feel bad.

"Hey, Lucas, it’s fine. If that thing was this fragile, then it’s better for your shop not to have it. We should be glad that it was us in the shop and not a customer who got hurt—"

"That does not make me feel any better. I spent thousands on that artifact. Ugh, I’m fine. There’s no point in getting angry over this. For now, you both should head back home. I’ll call you in a few days once the working conditions are back to normal."

Lucas complained with a reluctant face. He seemed to have accepted his fate.

Liam glanced at Lucas, who was still sulking over the destroyed artifact. He felt bad for his boss but knew better than to say anything that might make things worse.

Lucas was already struggling to keep his emotions in check, and the last thing he needed was pity.

Instead, Liam turned to Aria, who sighed dramatically as they walked away.

"I swear, Lucas needs to learn to relax. It’s not like it was the most valuable artifact in the world. Besides, it was only a few thousand dollars. It’s like...pocket change at best."

She muttered, stretching her arms. One had to wonder how rich she was to be making comments like these.

Liam raised an eyebrow.

Not the most valuable artifact?

He knew for a fact that Lucas had spent a small fortune acquiring that piece, but there was no point in arguing with Aria.

She clearly didn’t understand the weight of what had happened, and Liam had no desire to explain.

So, he simply hummed in response, letting Aria continue her rant.

"He gets way too temperamental over these things. I mean, sure, it was expensive, but what’s done is done. No use crying over spilled milk, right?"

Liam sighed internally. Aria had always been a bit reckless, but he knew better than to push the topic. Instead, he just nodded, pretending to listen as they walked.

Just as they were about to part ways, Aria’s phone rang. She answered it, her face shifting from bored annoyance to mild surprise.

"Huh? A new dungeon assignment already? Alright, alright, I got it. I’ll be there as soon as I can. Ugh, what a disappointment. I had other plans for today"

She said, glancing at Liam as she listened.

When she hung up, Liam tilted his head in curiosity.

"New dungeon?"

Aria groaned, rolling her eyes. "

Yeah. I was hoping to do a beginner dungeon for fun, but apparently, I’ve been assigned to check out some newly discovered dungeon. Probably another high-risk one. Wait! It can be really fun as well. Maybe I will see a new monster..."

She crossed her arms and pouted slightly, looking genuinely happy with the news. Her earlier sign of disappointment was nowhere to be found.
