Chapter 59: 59: The aftermath - Part 1

"Oi Liam, I don’t think this is an ice cream shop. Are you trying to trick me? Where did you bring me?"

Asger asked as he looked around. The look of disgust and anger on his face spoke volumes about the betrayal he was feeling, and his magic was beginning to get violent.

Thankfully, Liam was spared from answering because he had Bianca with him. She decided to answer Asger’s questions with a slight frown on her face.

"It sucks, but we need to report to the old man and Sister Aria first. Otherwise, they will cause a scene, and we won’t have any peace," Bianca informed Asger.

The half-dragon finally calmed down. He did not look any happier than before, but he wouldn’t cause any trouble... for now.

Victor, on the other hand, had no problem opening his mouth and causing trouble.

"Hmm, you all look close, and it makes me jealous. Should I start hanging around you all more? Would that make me get close to you as well?"

Liam felt shivers go down his spine as soon as he heard that voice. He had a feeling that he would enter a painful world filled with dangers if he allowed that to happen.

Before he could decline the offer, Asger decided to do it for him.

"Hell no! Stay away from me and my human, you pest! I do not want to share anything with you."

The half-dragon was like a kid at times, and his tantrums were often a source of irritation and pain for Liam. But for the first time, Liam felt like he wanted to grab Asger and give him a pat on the back.

He was being saved from an irritating situation.

"Aww, don’t be like that, my dear young friend. I am sure I can be of use. I have a lot of money and influence. I can get you whatever you want," Victor promised.

It sounded like an alluring thing, but Liam’s sense of danger had matured. He was not going to take this offer filled with too many uncertainties.

Seeing as he got no response, it was clear to Victor that he had been rejected, so he didn’t try to make the same offer again.

They all finally reached the outside of the rubble, and Liam felt himself tense up. He wasn’t sure what to say to the crowd if they asked him what had happened or where he had come from. He didn’t even have a story thought out.

Seeing him tense up, Victor decided to do the first decent thing and use his magic.

[User is being influenced by invisibility magic. Would the user like to accept the use of magic?]

The system asked, and this time, Liam didn’t have a reason to say ’no.’ He accepted the magic use and felt the magic cover him.

"Interesting. Do you have a magic-repelling constitution? And one that is strong enough to even repel my magic? It’s so intriguing. It makes me want to experiment on you more. What do you say? Will you allow me to do that if I pay you?"

Victor asked, and Liam tensed up before he walked past him. He pretended as if he hadn’t heard anything, and that was as good as him refusing the offer.

The older male backed away this time, but Liam had a feeling he needed to be more cautious in the future.

They all quickly emerged from the rubble, and Liam was surprised to see that not many people were waiting for them. Most shocking was the fact that there were no reporters on the scene.

Surely, a scene as big as this had to be reported and worth covering?

"This place is hidden using magic. So, no matter what happens here, the common people won’t know," Bianca told Liam, making his heart skip a beat.

It almost felt like she had seen through him when she answered his question, but Bianca decided to clarify.

"I cannot read your mind. I just made an educated guess based on what question you would have at such a time. Anyway, we should let Victor handle this while we wait for him. He’s irritating but also useful at times like these."

Bianca sounded irritated, but there was no hiding the admiration in her eyes toward the older male.

As for Liam? He only felt suspicious when he looked at Victor.

That familiar and intense magic made his senses tingle, and he had a feeling that getting any more involved than this would be a foolish decision.

Victor quickly finished dealing with the formalities, using his smooth words and an authoritative aura to clear up the lingering concerns of those who had questions about the incident.

Despite his polished demeanor, there was something unsettling about the ease with which he manipulated the situation to his advantage.

"I am finally done. Man, these people sure can take a lot out of a man. I wonder how many questions I answered for them today? It makes me want to crush them."

Victor’s voice sounded faint, but Liam managed to catch it and he felt a shiver go down his spine. He had a feeling that Victor was not joking around when he said those words.

When he returned to the group, Liam stiffened instinctively. His guard shot up as Victor approached with his signature smug smile, his presence like a shadow that refused to be shaken.

"Shall we head out?"

Victor said, his tone light but with an undertone that made Liam’s nerves prickle.

"Yes, we should. Elder Erin and Sister Aria will meet us near the ice cream shop. It’s best not to keep them waiting"

Bianca interjected, stepping between Victor and Liam as if sensing the unspoken tension.

Liam internally sighed in relief at Bianca’s intervention, even if it meant he had to endure the chaos of the group a little longer. With Victor in tow, they left the site and made their way toward the promised meeting spot.
