Chapter 47: 47: Outclassed - Part 2

Aria gritted her teeth, her body screaming in protest as she pushed herself back up. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, her instincts screaming at her to retreat, but her pride wouldn’t let her.

"Damn it. He’s not just tough—he’s fast too."

Aria thought, dodging another strike from Asger, this time a clawed swipe aimed at her head.

The half-dragon’s movements were a blend of brute strength and inhuman agility. His sheer physical dominance made it nearly impossible for Aria to gain the upper hand.

Every time she attempted to exploit an opening, Asger seemed to anticipate her move, countering with devastating precision.

Elder Eryndorius watched the fight unfold, his expression grim. He knew Aria was strong, but against a half-dragon who had tapped into a portion of his ancient power, she didn’t stand a chance.

The elder clenched his fists, his mind racing.

He had one last resort—a forbidden spell that would cost him his life but might incapacitate the half-dragon long enough for them to escape.

He had hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but as Asger continued to overpower Aria, it became clear that they were running out of options.

"Forgive me, my friends."

Elder Erin muttered, his voice tinged with sorrow. He began to channel his life force into the spell, ancient words slipping from his lips as the air around him grew heavy with power.

Just as the elder’s spell was about to reach its peak, the room was suddenly flooded with an overwhelming magical presence. The air shimmered, and a voice rang out, commanding and calm.

"That’s enough."

Everyone froze, even Asger. The half-dragon turned his head, his glowing eyes narrowing as he recognized the source of the voice.

Standing in the doorway was Bianca, her face set in determination. Beside her was a man who exuded an aura of raw, unmatched power. Victor Rhemington—the #1 ranked magician in the world—had arrived.

Elder Erin staggered, the spell he had been preparing dissipating as relief washed over him. But a part of him remained uncertain. Could even Victor handle a half-dragon who was beginning to lose control of his reason?

Asger, on the other hand, felt a twinge of unease.

The presence of Victor Rhemington was unmistakable. It wasn’t just the power radiating from him; it was the sense of authority, of someone who had seen and overcome countless battles.

Before Asger could react, Victor moved. It was almost too fast to follow. One moment, he was standing beside Bianca; the next, he was directly in front of Asger.

"Stand down. I can take this from here."

Victor commanded, his voice calm but unyielding.

Asger growled, his instincts screaming at him to fight. But before he could make a move, Victor raised a hand and released a controlled burst of energy.

The impact was immediate. Asger’s body tensed, his movements halted as the energy overwhelmed him. It wasn’t destructive, but it was powerful enough to suppress his draconic instincts, forcing his body to shut down.

Asger’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Victor stood over him, his expression unreadable as he assessed the situation.

"Is everyone all right?"

Victor asked, turning to look at the others.

Aria, still catching her breath, gave a short nod.

"Thanks to you, I guess."

Bianca rushed to her side, concern evident on her face.

"Aria! You’re hurt—let me heal you."

Elder Erin, meanwhile, approached Victor, his expression a mix of gratitude and wariness.

"Thank you, Victor. Your timing was impeccable. I fear we wouldn’t have lasted much longer without your intervention."

Victor’s gaze softened slightly as he looked at the elder.

"You did well holding out as long as you did. But this situation is far from resolved."

He gestured toward the unconscious half-dragon.

"We need to secure him before he regains consciousness. His power is unstable, and I can sense it growing."

Bianca nodded, already preparing a containment spell. But she did not sound as sure as she should be when offering something like this.

"I’ll handle it. He should not be able to wake up anytime soon."

As she worked, Victor turned his attention back to Elder Erin.

"Tell me everything. How did it come to this? Why is a half-dragon rampaging, and why was I not informed about this? Oh my! Were you trying to hide this from me?"

Elder Erin hesitated for a moment before nodding.

"It’s a long story, but I’ll explain everything. This all started when Liam was taken by—"

Before he could finish, a low growl emanated from Asger’s unconscious form. Bianca’s containment spell flared to life, encasing him in a magical barrier.

Victor frowned.

"We don’t have much time. Let’s move this conversation somewhere safer. And quickly."

With that, the group began to gather their strength and prepare for the next step, knowing full well that this was just the beginning of the storm.

Meanwhile, Liam sat stiffly in the dimly lit office of Lazario Morvane, his nerves tightly wound. He had reluctantly accepted Lazario’s deal to "work for him" in exchange for his safety, but his mind raced with doubts.

The man sitting across from him was no ordinary individual. Everything about Lazario—his sharp gaze, the way his fingers drummed lightly on his desk, and the faint magical aura around him—spoke of a man who thrived on control.

Liam had to tread carefully.

"So, you agreed rather quickly back there. I can’t help but wonder if you’re just that smart... or simply spineless"

Lazario began, his voice smooth but carrying an edge that set Liam on edge.

Liam forced a smile, though the tension in his shoulders betrayed him.

"Let’s just say I value my life more than anything else. Self-preservation isn’t cowardice—it’s practicality."

Lazario leaned back in his chair, studying Liam with an intensity that made the latter feel exposed.

"Practicality, huh? We’ll see how practical you are once you’re in the field. My organization isn’t a charity. If you’re not useful, you’re disposable."

The words hit Liam like a hammer, but he kept his expression neutral. His mind, however, was racing. Field? What field? What exactly does he expect me to do?

Before he could ask, Lazario waved a hand, and a holographic display of information materialized in the air between them. It showed maps, names, and strange symbols Liam couldn’t decipher along with a tracking magic.
