Chapter 140: 140: Private Lesson- Part 1

"Oi, human, whatever you are thinking about—don’t do it! I know you feel frustrated, but think about what will happen if you let your temper loose. These people have no idea what kind of monster you are."

Asger was quick to remind Liam to temper himself, and Liam made sure to take deep breaths and not give in to his temper.

It helped a lot, and Liam was able to feel calm once more.

He quickly headed back home and was immediately met with Elder Erin’s knowing look.

"I know I am asking you a tough question, but are you the reason behind the dungeon collapse? You don’t have to feel nervous about this, Liam. I promise I won’t scold you if you lie to me."

Elder Erin’s gaze was firm, and he looked at Liam with certainty.

Even though the elder was asking Liam this, it seemed as if he already knew what had happened.

Liam knew that there was no point in lying, but his ego would not allow him to tell the truth either. So he kept his mouth shut, though he could still feel the older man looking at him with a disappointed gaze.

Finally, Liam decided to answer.

"I did not cause the dungeon to collapse. Apparently, the thing that caused the dungeon to collapse was the core becoming unstable... or so I think. As I said before, I have nothing to do with it."

Elder Erin sighed as he heard Liam’s answer.

"I see. If that’s the case, then I won’t bother you anymore. Have a nice sleep."

Liam watched the older male leave with a smile on his face. He maintained that smile all the way until the elder disappeared.

"You do realize that you did not fool that old man, right? Don’t let his smile fool you. He’s just playing around with you," Asger said as he watched the old man leave his sight. The half-dragon did not take his eyes off his target, causing Liam to sigh in regret over his choice.

"Of course, I know that I messed up. I am not foolish enough to not realize my mistake. Stop patronizing me over it."

Liam quickly walked toward the stairs before heading to his room. He did not want to think about all the mistakes he had made today and how they would come to haunt him later.

The next day, Liam felt refreshed when he woke up. His eyes opened quickly, and he walked out of the bedroom without much trouble.

"Today is going to be a good day! I can feel it."

Liam, indeed, had a good feeling about that day. But that did not mean his feeling was going to turn out to be right.

In fact, his good feeling did not even last until breakfast because when Liam came down, he saw a familiar figure sitting at the table in front of him.

"Hello! It is nice to see you again, Nico. I decided to pay you a visit today because I wanted to talk to you."

Victor spoke from the seat he was sitting at. He looked comfortable, almost like he had no care in the world.

Liam paused at the sight before him. Victor sat comfortably at the dining table, a calm yet unnerving smile plastered across his face.

There was something about his presence that immediately made Liam feel uneasy. He didn’t belong here, yet he acted like he owned the place.

Subtly, Liam glanced at Elder Erin, hoping for an explanation. But the elder merely gave him a barely perceptible shrug, his expression unreadable.

That alone told Liam that even Elder Erin wasn’t sure why Victor was here.

Their silent exchange did not go unnoticed.

Victor chuckled, setting down his cup of tea with deliberate ease.

"Now, now, you two. It’s quite rude to have a whole conversation without including me."

Liam sighed. Caught.

"Alright. What are you doing here, Victor?"

Liam said, shifting his weight uncomfortably.

Victor’s smile widened, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

"I’m here on official business. You see, dear Liam, it seems you never officially signed up for my class."

The words sent alarm bells ringing in Liam’s mind.

He straightened, his expression carefully neutral.

"I’ll think about it."

Victor tilted his head slightly, clearly unimpressed.

"Oh, no, no, no. That won’t do. I came all this way because I simply cannot have you slipping through the cracks. I’ll wait right here until you sign it."

Liam resisted the urge to groan. He could feel Elder Erin watching the interaction carefully, but the elder didn’t intervene. That meant Liam was on his own.

Reluctantly, he reached for the document Victor slid across the table. It was a simple form, yet it felt heavier than it should have. Signing it felt like walking into a trap, but refusing outright would make things worse.

With a steady hand, Liam scribbled his name onto the parchment.

Victor’s expression shifted slightly, as if satisfied. He stood up, brushing imaginary dust from his coat.

"Splendid! Now that you’re officially my student, it’s time for your first special lesson."

Liam’s instincts screamed at him that this was a bad idea.

Still, he forced himself to remain composed.

"And what exactly does this special lesson entail?"

Victor didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he motioned for Liam to follow.

"I’d rather show you than tell you. Elder Eryndorius, I shall take my leave now. And don’t worry! I will return Liam by the end of the day...hopefully. If I don’t, then don’t feel worried he will stay safe by my side."

Victor said, a glint of something unreadable in his eyes. Elder Erin seemed to want to say something, but then changed his mind at the last second.

Liam glanced at Elder Erin one last time. The elder’s expression remained impassive, though there was a flicker of concern in his gaze. Asger, who had been resting nearby, stirred slightly but said nothing.

Taking a deep breath, Liam stood up.

"Fine. Lead the way."
