Chapter 104: 104: Welcome to the Academy - Part 2

SMACK!

Liam knocked the arm away with a sharp slap.

At the same time, Asger lunged, his tiny lizard form attempting to sink his teeth into the offending limb.

Unfortunately, the owner of the arm was too fast. He yanked his hand back before Asger could do any damage, laughing in amusement.

"Feisty as ever, huh?"

Liam turned to glare at the source of his annoyance—Victor.

The blonde magician grinned down at him, completely unbothered. His sharp blue eyes gleamed with mischief as he leaned against a nearby pillar, arms crossed.

Liam scowled.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Victor smirked.

"That’s my line, my dear friend.. This is the academy, after all."

Liam felt a headache coming on.

Of course.

Of course, this insufferable man would be involved with the academy somehow.

Victor was dressed in elegant robes, similar to what some of the senior students were wearing, but his presence was far more commanding. He wasn’t just another student—he belonged here in a way that Liam didn’t.

"What, did you finally awaken to your magic and come running here for lessons?"

Victor teased.

Liam bristled but forced himself to stay calm.

"I’m not here to study under you, if that’s what you’re worried about."

Victor chuckled

"Good. I’d hate to have you as a junior. I don’t want to take responsibility for someone with as much magic as you do."

Asger growled, eyes glowing faintly.

"Do you want me to bite him?"

"Yes."

Liam said immediately.

Victor laughed again, clearly entertained.

"You two really haven’t changed. Still as hostile as ever."

Liam clicked his tongue.

"And you’re still as annoying as ever."

Victor placed a hand over his heart in mock offense.

"That hurts, my dear friend. Truly. After all we’ve been through?"

Liam rolled his eyes.

"We’ve been through nothing together. The only thing you’ve done is pester me."

Victor grinned.

"Oh, come on. I’ve given you plenty of valuable advice. I even saved your life that one time..."

"You mean, you’ve bullied me over time."

"Same thing."

Liam resisted the urge to strangle him.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm. Losing his temper here wouldn’t accomplish anything.

Instead, he narrowed his eyes.

"Alright, enough games. Why are you here, Victor? What do you actually do in this academy?"

Victor’s smirk didn’t fade.

"Oh? You want to know my role?"

"Spit it out."

Victor chuckled.

"I’m a combat instructor."

Liam’s stomach dropped.

"You teach here?"

"I do...when I need to relieve some stress? Wanna see?"

"No thanks! I value my sanity and life."

Liam corrected.

Victor let out a bark of laughter.

"You wound me, Liam."

Liam groaned, rubbing his temples. He couldn’t believe this.

The idea of Victor having any sort of authority over students was horrifying.

Asger, still irritated, flicked his tail.

"We should leave before you give Liam another headache."

Victor chuckled.

"Leaving so soon? But we just reunited."

Liam shot him a deadpan look.

"And yet, I already want to throw you off a building."

Victor grinned.

"Charming as ever."

Liam sighed, realizing he wasn’t going to get rid of him easily.

Victor had always been a pain, but now that he was a teacher here?

Liam had a bad feeling about this.

And he was almost always right about his bad feelings.

Liam exhaled slowly, trying to steady his thoughts. Victor’s presence behind him was as irritating as ever, a constant reminder that no matter where he went, trouble would find him.

He didn’t want to give Victor the satisfaction of seeing him struggle, but at this point, ignoring him was only delaying the inevitable.

His main goal now was to find Elder Erin and regroup before things got even more annoying.

Liam closed his eyes for a brief moment, reaching out with his senses.

Magic was everywhere in this academy, thick and layered like threads woven through the very foundation of the buildings.

Trying to pinpoint a specific person’s magic in this kind of environment was like searching for a single spark in a roaring fire.

Still, Elder Erin was no ordinary magician. His presence stood out, a beacon of ancient, controlled power.

It was subtle, but Liam had interacted with him enough times to recognize the feel of his mana signature.

He concentrated, following the faint pulse of that energy—

Only to be interrupted.

"You know, for someone who plays dumb about magic, you sure seem comfortable using it"

Victor drawled.

Liam’s eyes snapped open, and he shot Victor an irritated glare.

"What part of ’leave me alone’ do you not understand?"

Victor smirked, clearly enjoying himself.

"Oh, I understand. I just choose to ignore it."

Asger let out an annoyed hiss.

"Liam, can I bite him now?"

Liam seriously considered allowing it.

Instead, he sighed and started walking in the direction he sensed Elder Erin’s magic.

"Do whatever you want."

He muttered to Asger before turning his focus back to their path.

Asger bared his tiny teeth in a threatening gesture, but Victor merely chuckled.

"Relax, little lizard. If I wanted to be your enemy, I wouldn’t be walking so casually behind you."

Liam clenched his fists. He hated how Victor always acted like he knew everything.

"Then why are you following me?"

Liam asked, giving him a side-eye.

Victor’s smirk widened.

"Because you’re interesting."

Liam scoffed.

"That’s not a good enough reason."

"Isn’t it? Well then, consider it a personal interest of mine."

Victor hummed thoughtfully.

Liam stiffened slightly but kept walking.

Victor continued, his tone growing more curious.

"Someone like you shouldn’t exist. So, naturally, I have to know more."

Liam refused to give him the satisfaction of a response.

Instead, he focused entirely on tracking Elder Erin.

The elder’s magic had moved—he was no longer in the same place. Liam could sense the shift, feel the energy leading toward a larger building deeper in the academy grounds.

Liam adjusted his path accordingly, quickening his pace.

Victor, of course, followed without hesitation.

"Not gonna lie. I’m impressed you can track him. Most students here can barely sense mana outside their own body, let alone locate a magician like Elder Erin"

Victor said casually.

Liam gritted his teeth. He didn’t want Victor’s praise.

But he also knew that denying his abilities at this point was pointless.

Victor knew.

And that meant the elder likely knew, too.

He exhaled sharply and pressed forward, determined to reach Elder Erin before Victor could get any more words in.
